It’s a shame Brookside was axed, I remember it was Channel 4’s biggest show, then it dropped to second place behind Friends. It continued dropping down and down and eventually disappeared from the top 10 Channel 4 programmes altogether. Why the producers didn’t realise something was wrong then and try to revamp the show I have no idea. Figures continued to drop then they axed the weeknight shows and just had the Saturday multi-episode, then that was moved to late one week night and it was obvious the show would be scrapped soon - and it was. RIP Brookside.
Phil Redmond attempted to appeal to a younger Friends type audience. Younger characters were introduced & it slowly morphed into Hollyoakes. Viewers wanted to see proper characters, storylines & scouse humour. Corrie has gone down the same road & audience figures have plummeted!
@@711honved It's difficult to know what was going on behind the scenes, Redmond may have been given less money, resources or staff than he had before - there also may have been decisions made by other people at the channel to promote other shows instead of Brookside. I mentioned just now that the viewing figures kept dropping yet nothing appeared to be done, the same thing has happened with Eastenders - it used to have a massive following, now it has vastly less viewers, Emmerdale is bigger than it now.
I went about this time, I got the hand receiver from the public phone box, that was in brookside, I got a flag from the jordache patio, I got a garden ornament from Bobby and sheila Grant's garden.
Thanks for the upload Steven , so weird to see the famous close all run down and deserted now , but I heard the houses were bought by someone and are now done up and people living in them , will always be tainted by good old brookie though 😀 x . cheers bud x .

Hi brookie shouldn't of got exed it was a great soap back in its day .I tryed getting extra work on brookie but never did only my bestie was on it and people ftom my drama course was to .I'm glad they hav put brookie back on now but I can not watch it hav not got the channel .

The cottage was grumpy old guy "Mr. Cross"
At least It's back to life now with Residents living there.
