    Actually you were living in Shanghai before but if you live in the north eastern part of China you will change your opinion on Chinese drinking ability and madness. Those guys up north drink a crate of beers by the bbq each or half a liter per person of 50 degree proof chinese grain spirits over a dinner with friends.

      Shanghai as a whole are definitely not the heaviest drinkers amongst others.

    Shanghai is one of the best cities in the world and "international" you have everything there. I stayed there for over 6 years, the culture shock you will get if you stay in smaller cities or if you go to rural areas then it can be very different from where you come from.

    In regards to family closeness, I think that's just the big city effect. Chinese generally have a very close family bond, this is not shown in the way as Bolivians. Chinese families show their love for their family by sacrificing themselves by working long hours so they can provide a better future for the next generation and as a side effect parents have to travel to different parts of China for work leaving the children with the grandparents. The Chinese family kinship is also a lot closer than many western countries for example what western countries would consider to be extended family, China would just call it family, for example there is no 2nd or 3rd cousins in China it's just cousins.

    • @shanghaiandi768
      @shanghaiandi768  Před 5 měsíci

      That's true, and it's something I like about China. Though I have to say that having seen the way families interact here, I can surely say the bonds are tighter and interactions richer. It might simply be a cultural trait of the people. Love wise, I assume is the same as in China

    我在中国云南,这边也有很浓厚的酒文化,而且中国人随和是因为法律太严格了,在00年代可能就因为你看了别人一眼就会打架,而且经常会有大规模的械斗🥺法律变得严格之后大家都变得随和了,因为打架的成本太高😂

    挺好的评论,但是很多观点受到了很大的认知限制,你对中国取得理解还处于非常表面的阶段,比如中国人在中国式聚餐上喝到酩酊大醉被人送回家其实也是很常见的,但你可能没有机会参加这样的聚会。只有北上广这些超级大都市里的一些外地年轻人会远离父母没法照料自己的孩子,但是这里的总人口加起来也不超过中国人口的1/10,中国绝大多数家庭人们和父母是生活在一起并且彼此照顾的,事实上这才是传统的中国式家庭,大都市里很多都是被资本化过的生活方式

      @@shanghaiandi768 “更加一般化” should be “更加普及化”。
      Chinese culture has a long history, not easy to understand especially what you see in Shanghai. It is to a less degree of tradition culture. Every one in cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen, or Hong Kong are busy making money, so their life style is not necessarily same to other cities...Again, China for the last 40 years had been changed a lot to be the "factory of the world" and this trend not necessarily continue and will be transitioning to a different society in another 20 years. Being a Chinese for over 40 years, I am still learning something new about my own culture everyday, so you are doing a really good job as an outsider.

    they work hard even far away from home for their family
    and just because they dont hug or says i love you doesnt mean their love for family even less.

    Chinese people, some times are very straight forward, to be more efficient. No offense, but just trying to get things done quickly. Foreigners may get culture shock from that, but after a while, they know that most occasions people mean no harm, and will feel better.
    Not punctual for some people is an issue, however maybe not that common. Some people do need to improve that aspect, but it’s not a cultural issue.

But you may have misunderstood about the Chinese civilisation which family is the cornerstone of the nation. If you know the meaning 国家,then you know what I am saying. In Chinese culture, family come 1st then individual. The West is opposite.

    Good news bad news. The good news is that you got everything correct about the Chinese culture. The bad news is that you also got everything wrong about China... which is good for you as you can rediscover the Chinese culture (shock) all over again during your next 7yr adventure into China. A case in point? The Shanghai-nese are notoriously known as incapable of making business deals over a ton of business drinks over or under the dinning table against the Northerners who see your willingness to drink yourself silly as a sign of trustworthiness for partnership. As for in-your-face politeness or vulgarity, you need to be cultured in the Chinese "Century of Humiliation" since 1840's Opium War, during which the West subjugated to a walk through junkyard by any nation but Africa. Good luck to you with future culture shocks.

    I'm sorry for your cultural shock. But you have to say most people are Polite and Non-Agressive, of course, there are also uneducated people, noisy, dirty, disturbing, but fewer than your country for sure. The first one is very confusing, you are probably the only foreigner saying this, because Chinese are very on time, esp for business meeting, always early, that's the rule. Maybe you had some bad experience, but don't mislead other people 😂
