Finally!! We get John again. I miss you, especially your puns and academic jokes
Yes, but when is World History Season 3?
Thomas Jordan yes please!!!
YEEEES!
Why read books if you can listen to John talking about them.
But you should still read the books.
I always listen to John, then read the books. Then go back to John and see what I missed
HE'S BACK
ITS BAAAACK
OMAHGAAAAAAAAAAH
Just made my halloween 17263634x better
Crash Course, please make a course on Mathematics.
Sincerely,
Everyone
Just watch 3blue1brown, he has a series on linear algebra and calculus that are better than any science/math crash course series.
except me
Victor P. Yeah. But Crash Course is weirdly unique in its own way. It's much more fun to learn from CC than from any other channel.
YES LITERATURE IS BACK
I'm very excited! You should do Dorian Gray and King Lear next season.
diefacingourfoes Got that leaving cert coming up so Lear is really needed
YES MACBETH YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To The Lighthouse, Pride and Prejudice.....
so excited!
I'm surprised there is no Brave New World
Rejected would be a bit to much distobia
Rejected yeah, problem with that one is that if you tilt your head and squint, it's only barely a dystopia. Everyone had a job, chemical distractions on demand, orgies (probably another reason it won't be on CC) that are religiously tolerated... for a certain type of person, BNW wasn't inarguably bad.
sophia hit the nail in the head, it wasn't a dystopia as much as it was an ABSOLUTELY totalitarian regime. close, but not the same
My guess is because it exposes the dark side within so many "progressive" talking points that so many try to sell us: that technology will solve all our problems, history is problematic and should be discredited, and the state ultimately should be the giver and taker and decider of our lives.
I see thanks everyone
YES! 1984 is my one of my absolute favorite books. I read in my high school debate class. I'm so glad that you will be discussing it. I love hearing other people's takes on the book (:
I was thinking about re-reading Macbeth just yesterday!
brave new world?
yay john talking about books
YES. BOOKS. I AM SO EXCITED!
Puff level high
When I saw the video, I gasped. When I saw the book list I almost passed out. I'm so happy. I'm so happy
I was like "when will he do jane austen?!" And then "woooohoooooo!!!!!" I'm glad austenites harassed him. Great job, people. Love you.
Two whole videos about finding a husband. Great.
Macbeth! Gotta love when John talks about books of the macabre.
What an incredible mix of stories. Narratives that have held their place through decades and more. And newer perspectives that will last for times to come. Specially excited for Austen, Atwood, Butler and dear old Shakespeare! Welcome back, John!
Yay! Now, predictions for Season 5:
Fight Club-Chuck Palahniuk
Watchmen-Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons
Fahrenheit 451-Ray Bradbury
The Blind Assassin-Margaret Atwood
I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings-Maya Angelou
In Cold Blood-Truman Capote
Waiting For The Barbarians-J.M. Coetzee
Red Sorghum-Mo Yan
"Google's ad tracking software will" inarguably the most perfect foreshadowing to a discussion about 1984
What?!, no Brave New World?!!!
Pablo Herrero Yes, socially tolerated drugs and orgies. What a dystopia.
Sophia De Tricht, Aren't we there already?
Uh, no. No, we are not.
Are black guys disproportionately arrested for weed? Are orgies difficult to arrange or find? To the former, yes. To the latter, I assume so.
Oh well, I don't live in the USA, that must be it.
Oh good old 1984 I remember when I read you along with Animal Farm back in high school both of which shaped my view of the world or at least the world of politics. I can't wait to see John's view of it.
When a book scares the coolest man alive into writing a song about it(Bruce Dickinson), you better believe it's dystopian. The fact that the people living in it are happy, is what makes it the greatest dystopia ever written. It's at least as foreboding as 1984 - just think of the opioid-epidemic. All the books on the list are great. But you can't have a dystopian theme without Aldous Huxley's masterpiece. It would be like having fantasy-theme without LOTR. Best part is, it has aged extremely well for a book written in 1931.
BTW: I'll still read/reread some of these and watch, but I will still be dissatisfied.
Can't wait for 1984 and Macbeth AND Pride&Prejudice! These are all some of my favourite books! Bless you John Green!
I'm so happy right now. Mythology, Literature, Sociology, all happening at the same time.
I was really hoping for Neuromancer when you said there was a lot of dystopia. Ah, well. The lineup looks great!
I really love Crash Course Literature with John Green please never stop making this videos :D
1984 is 100% my favorite book we've ever read in school
I read 1984 during my junior year of high school, which was over 4 years ago. Wow the time has flew by 😱
Yes! I'm writing my BA thesis on The Handmaid's Tale. :) And the other books are all awesome too.
I'm so glad John finished the exercise thing and that turtle book so he can get back to what truly matters.
I have never been this excited by Crash Course Literature, and I've been very excited every time! That is a lot of excitement!
Yay! John green is back! He's one of two people on this show whose voices don't give me headaches. (Dude who did the civics one is the other cool dude)
Thank you! This made my day. Excited to revisit old books, read new ones, hear John, and see the Thought Bubble.
THE FIRST TWO BOOKS ARE ACTUALLY MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVER
James Nicoll listed "Pride and Prejudice" as #2 on his list "Twenty Core Dystopias Every True SF Fan Should Have On Their Shelves" (The top 4: The Handmaid’s Tale, Pride and Prejudice, Swastika Night, Parable of the Sower). Because of how women are treated, he considers Jane Austen to be horror fiction.
Ooh, Candide! I sang Cunegonde in the Bernstein opera of that book! On the off chance that anyone at CrashCourse (or just into CrashCourse!) wants a recording of it, I've got some available! :)
I used Crash Course Lit while I was in HS English classes now no longer in high school or English class but will still watch every episode of the season
GONE WITH THE WIND... BEST NOVEL IN HISTORY.
I was like "when will he do jane austen?!" And then "woooohoooooo!!!!!" I'm glad austenites harassed him. Great job people. Love you.
I saw the list and went to my library to check some of them out. I'll have you know that over a few separate editions of The Handmaid's Tale, there are a grand total of 13 holds. Guess it's time to head to the used book store...
This is the best trailer of anything I have ever seen!
house of leaves for season five!
house of leaves for season five!
house of leaves for season five!
house of leaves for season five!
house of leaves for season five!
Yeah, analysis of House of Leaves would take the entirety of season five.
I've already read all except 3 of them in the past two years. Excited to hear John dissecting them though! Hopefully I'll learn something new or gain a new perspective from it.
We're finally reviewing 1984! Why couldn't it have been before I had an essay in English over it?!
Keep up the great work Crash Course
I'm looking forward for 1984!
And I love you guys overally!
Couldn't be more excited. I've read nearly all of these, and will re-read for this course.
I'm so happy to see Crash Course Literature back. Thank you guys, I love the Vlog Brothers! :)
Welcome back John Green, it is really great to see you again.
HOORAY! You're back!
So when will you make World History Season 3?
Excited for the Yellow Wallpaper. Fantastic short story.
Okay, I've put the first book on hold at the library, since I haven't read it in about 15 years. Will follow suit with the rest (except Handmaid's Tale, because I read that a few months back).
I don't even care what books you do, I am just glad that CrashCourse Literature is coming back
John Green makes his long awaited return to Crsh Course. Thank you.
I want more Crash Course World History with John Green
Finally! Pride and Prejudice. I love that book
YAAAAY YOU'RE BACK
I love so many of these, especially 1984. Let the soul crushing commence!
FINALLY!!!!!!!!
Ugh, I felt physically ill when I finished reading 1984, hopefully your take is more palatable. Excited for an excuse to finally read To The Lighthouse!
I was so furiously disappointed when I finished 1984. I get that that was kind of the point, but it just made for an unpleasant reading experience.
LOL at John's last line!
Never bothered with the literature stuff on this channel but I love Macbeth, 1984 and the whole dystopia genre in general so I'll be sticking around for this one.
I am BEYOND excited!!! This book list is literally fantastic!
How do I contain my nerdy excitement?!
I'm so glad to see CC Literature Season 4, but also I spent the last two years studying dystopias, specifically . . . 1984 and The Handmaid's Tale!! I'm so excited for this season, but so hurt it's come a little late.
Still gonna watch though. And still gonna love it.
0:28, love that book! She’s one of my favorite authors!!! I’m excited to hear your interpretation of it, John!
oh hell yeah. im excited for candide and the yellow wallpaper!
Great Scott! He's back! Will have to do some reading to get ready though
And he's back! Can't believe how much I've missed John's dorky teachings.
I actually just read The Yellow Wallpaper in my English class the other. I'm looking forward to your analysis
i really want you to do crime and punishments. Its one of the best novels ever.
Hurraaayy It's back! *throws around confetti*
I'm so happy. 😭😭😭
Pride and Prejudice has its fair share of bleakness and sufferings
revisiting this season because I've been thinking a lot about utopia / dystopia
Yes! I am. So excited for this! :)
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY! YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!
Really hyped for 1984! But the first dystopia that came to mind was "brave new world"... dang now I want to reread it
I loovveee the Yellow Wallpaper!! I'm so excited!
I almost giggled like a little girl when he said we're reading 1984.
Can't wait for John to get back!
YES! Man, I wish you could get a degree in Crash Course. I'd finally be a star student...
Finally! I am so excited for this next season. The line up is good, though I would have liked to see a little more emotional variety.
Mr. Green! Mr. Green! Welcome back!!!
Yay, a couple of my favorites! 1984 and Parable of the Sower
Yaaay looking forward to this. Also future crash course ideas: linguistics or art/music/theater history.
We are literally using most these books in my ap language class. How convenient though that the one I am reading and so confused about is pride and prejudice THE LAST BOOK BEING DONE
SO EXCITED ABOUT PARABLE OF THE SOWER
I'm so happy to see books i've never read! I just got accepted to grad school with one of the greatest university libraries in my country. So excited to start reading away!!
Yaaaas! Can't wait to learn me some more books! Although you already have videos on some of these, I would love to see a season on Post Modern literature.
Wow, I was just rewatching some older episodes, wondering when/if a new season would be made, and then this arrives. (CZcams/Google must be using my monitor to monitor my thoughts; at least I got quality content instead of ads :-)
FINALLY!!! NOW WE WANT HANK BACK TOOO!!!
I'm so incredibly happy, thank-you thank-you thank-you THANK-YOU
To the Lighthouse! I just read that for my literature course and I really liked it. Excited for future episodes :)
