What's interesting about jazz is that you can determine how correct a note is by a simple formula: Cred + Swag Without enough cred or enough swag any note is essential correct.
Great work!! Thanks for allowing us to see the performance, warts and all🙀. Seriously such a nice way to display the collaborative process!! I learn so much from these, AND I’m not even a musician!!
Tbh I’m good with only a couple of these a month. I like not having to learn as much music for wedding stuff and I get to work stuff out in front of a drunk audience 😂
I love your content so much - it brings me great joy and a hope that maybe someday I’ll be able to do what you do. Thank you for inspiring me and making my endless school weeks easier :)
Literally, the day I found your channel, I sat down, binge-watched half of your shorts and then felt great for the rest of the day. Thank you for being awesome 😎🤩😊
Electronic trumpet? I'm not totally sure. All I know is theres electronic versions of pretty much all your classic band instruments. And electronic brass are the weirdest looking vs the normal version of the instrument. My dad played saxophone in highschool and has a has a few electronic saxs sense then.
I might be bias as a trombonist but that trombone player is incredibly good! The entire band is excellent Also why is his mom so damn good at singing like holy heck that was incredible! Love from Sweden
@@FoolishFrankie I’m glad you’re aware of him. He strays from jazz quite a bit so some might not be aware of his creativity and absolute monster chops. Good for you! You do a very nice job with your playing, you know your scales, and have a nice sound. Thank you for posting!
Hahaha. 12:26 is the look only a musician can give another musician. 99% of the crowd would never pick off what you did. They are not that concerning of an ear. We are our own worst critics and demand perfection on every performance. A well known musician still came up to you at the end to say hi. They obviously didn't care either as they have been in those shoes too. You guys sounded great. Love your channel.
Hey Frankie, I’ve seen a lot of your videos and think you are very talented and also cool and funny. Seeing you play jazz is a treat. In one of your videos, you mentioned you’ve only been playing sax for 10 years. How did you get so good in 10 years?
I appreciate the kind words!! Well now I’ve been playing for 11+ but I really feel like I should be better for my age. I guess consistent practice has helped a lot
Would be great if they gave you the list of songs for the night, but understandably some people like to play things according to how the night is going.
Really enjoying the videos. I want to play DJ Sax. How do i develop the skill of hearing what key a song is in? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
What was the song you guys played after it was supposed to be set break but then the trumpet player started playing a song and you caught along, it was the part where he always quoted Gertrude’s bounce and u were like ohhhh
Tbh I don’t lol I’m just tired a lot. I try to maintain a consistent wake up time regardless of how late I’m up the night before but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain that
It's great to hear these tunes played in a club, as I think they were intended to be. Congratulations. Uh, you might want to play Body and Soul down an octave, or spend some time shedding before you try it up there. Just sayin'. It appears you prefer to play alto rather than tenor. On your wedding gig vids you play tenor. Play good notes!
Wrong - this is part of the practice process which I why I try to show it often on my channel. You will not always nail something on stage that you practice in the practice room (which I’ve done with this melody in this range). Bad take, thanks for watching though!
Some charts were in C, some charts were in Eb, and some charts were in Bb. I think if I remember right this chart wasn't noted at the top what instrument it was for so it was kind of a shot in the dark (I was even confused when I was trying to play through it with the recording). I should've tried to play through it with Adam backstage which is my fault

The editing of these videos are honestly really high production and smooth, really enjoyable to watch :)!
Thank you I've been trying to up my game!!🙏🏻
I thought the same, from the crisp quality to appreciating tidbits from the footage like catching the bowl at the end LOL
Stellar!
Thank you so much for posting these videos! I have learned so much from just watching you!

I can't believe the whole "Reesee's Peee-sees" comment. My wife and I have an ongoing thing about that pronunciation.
LOL that’s amazing 😂
Wonderful to see the behind the scenes. I never knew how much work it took even as a professional. Great and entertaining vid!
Thank you:)
Sweet! Speaking of jazz gigs, I just opened up for herbie hancock and got to meet him back stage tonight
Wow that’s awesome!!
The one thing I had problems wrapping my head around, was the way you guys dressed up. Jeans and suit jacket ??
Not sure what's wrong with that? This is a common look lol
@@FoolishFrankie I'm 72-years-old and have been dressing just like that my whole life!
YESSSSS Frankie vlog! Making dinner and watching.
Thank you for watching🙏🏻🙏🏻
Would be great if they gave you the list of songs for the night, but understandably some people like to play things according to how the night is going.
Adam gave us a list of some songs and then told us we’d just pick a few other tunes on the gig! That’s very common on these gigs
Love the Adam Neely style thumbnail! Made me click so fast haha
Ahh thank you!!

Adam's EWI is cool!

@@FoolishFrankie Of curse! very cool!
What is that Trumpet Synth he is using?? Looks cool as heck, I want one
Electronic Valve Instrument made by Berglund instruments!
I was keeping an eye out for @pdbass at Con Alma!
He’s there way more than me!! We’ve been wanting to film something together, he’s just in much more prestigious scenes than me! Maybe one day🙏🏻
@@FoolishFrankieepic! will look forward to it!
Hey, what kind of EVI did Adam use in this? I would love to try and get one myself!
It’s made by Berglund instruments!
Really enjoying the videos. I want to play DJ Sax. How do i develop the skill of hearing what key a song is in? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you!! Honestly it just takes a lot of practice learning tunes by ear and then you’ll start to hear the key
what's your trumpet player doubling on? curious. I'm guessing he uses that largely to save his chops for the long gig?
It’s called an EVI! That’s part of the reason I think!
What song is this. It’s driving me nuts
Is that a bagpipe?
Close! It’s a trombone!
@@FoolishFrankiethat’s a nice looking trumpet you got there, can you teach me how to play it?
Frankie in your experiece do electric bass players get much jazz work? Or do you only play with double bass players?
I play with both. The bass player on this gig was playing electric I think
What was the song you guys played after it was supposed to be set break but then the trumpet player started playing a song and you caught along, it was the part where he always quoted Gertrude’s bounce and u were like ohhhh
Okay so it was 5:58
Rhythm a ning I think
Cool, just wondering how common it is to play gigs with sheet music .
Depends on the gig. I was only reading a couple of tunes on this gig, everything else I knew/learned by ear for the gig.
love the fried bananas
I noticed Adam was either reading the music or the chords, but you weren’t . Did you already have these songs memorized ?
I was reading some tunes and others I had memorized (same is true for Adam)
I’ve never heard that term “blowing.” Is that like the solo section?
Yes! Pretty common lingo
Nice! Wish I could gig!
You can do it!
@@FoolishFrankie Idk how to get into gigging.

I haven’t played one so I can’t say sorry!

is that an electronic trumpet? i need to know more
Yes! Follow adam on instagram (in description) for more!
whats the chart at 5:53 ?
Could I get a list of the tunes you played in this? I swear I've played like half of them
We say the name of each of them in the video!
Do you have any tips on how to do a great solo?

What ligature do you use?

Rhythm-a-ning
How do you survive such late nights?
Tbh I don’t lol I’m just tired a lot. I try to maintain a consistent wake up time regardless of how late I’m up the night before but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain that
