Thanks for the report and the information, I was interested to learn about the diesel version.
We had a petrol one 505 gti 1986 with manual gearbox for about 5 years and it was a gem that perhaps we should never have sold.

Nice...brings back memories. My dad bought one in 1981, but it was a 1980 non-turbo version with a 4-speed...the 504 diesel powertrain but in a 505. The engine sounded the same though. A reliable, fun, comfortable and economical car other than the sunroof, electrical and head gasket issues these were known to have. I miss it. Looks like your shifter bushings may be shot but the seats look perfect. 505s had the best seats of any car.

    Jeff Ray:
Just so you know, speedo at an indicated 60+mph is actually around 55mph(Peugeot was never great or accurate with odometer and speedo then). If your were to install a 3speed automatic 3.08 ring&pinion and speedo worm gear versus the 3.58 of the 5 Speed your speedo/odometer reading would be just slightly under, but you could easily get 40+mpg at a 60-65mph cruise on flat ground. 505s/and 504s are extreme easy to work on...just basic tools. And if the the Injection pump was in-fact rebuilt and engine has good compression,it should have a nice pop-corn-clatter sound when cold and even warmed up. You can check, by it by advancing the pump (loosen 3 allens and 13mm bold bracket/bolt and nut, and 17mmfuel lines at the pump;advance pump with a pry bar.)
When I was a kid(parents bought me a new 1983 505s TD/5 Speed)...it had no problem getting 35-38mpg with the vacuum line disconnected-plugged from the EGR valve.
But giving the 504 respect, although the 505 had better sound insulation and HVAC.....504 was and has better build quality and much stronger body-structure........the front strut towers on the 505 (acting as crumple-zones) are rather flimsy...which is why the 504 rides and drives better.
If your sunroof is slow or weak in operation, removing interior panel/metal stamping and electric motor in the trunk(is very easy with a a 10mm socket/wrench and door trim removal tool; only a few plastic grabber-clips hold the hard cardboard interior panel to sunroof stamping)cleaning the hell out of the sunroof track with very hot soapy water and carburetor fluid for the cable worm gear and plastic tube...will get it operating and very fast. lots of white-lithium grease goes a long way once your skin and clothing are covered in greasy grime after your done cleaning. If you don't get dirty, you did not do the job right!

Great video. I am so glad this is out there. I drove an 81 TD in the 90s thru high school and college. I always thought the motor was under rated. I could always pin the 85 mph speedo no problem. Mine was a base model. Had a different steering wheel that yours. The center cap would pop off Do you still have a Peugeot?

Is this the 2.3 or the 2.5 liter indenor? We had a -85 with the 2.5 and going from a Mercedes 240D the Peugeot was a rocket.

@@peugeottogo Great engine! Had the same one (without turbo) in my Ford Sierra 2.3D. 460.000 km without troubles, good for more than real 160 kmh even with 67 HP!
