Alas, no, not live. Notice no mics on the sax or drums, no lead out of the back of the keyboards or guitars.. But look out for live versions on YT, they are still playing and still sound fantastic!
Probably not live in the studio but Mezzoforte are a great live band, I went to see them a couple of years ago in London and they were awesome. This was their only top 40 hit but they've made many great albums over the years and I highly recommend you check out more of their music.
Sadly no. TOTP never had live performances. It was all pretend. No way could you have so many bands sound check and change sets for the very little airtime. Status Quo always took the piss when they played, to prove the point lol
There's a pretty high quality video of Funkapolitan performing As Time Goes By on CZcams which I never expected to find until recently. Here it is: czcams.com/video/CaAbZmdjK80/video.html
Looks pretty live to me...the usual fill in stuff, but they do seem to be playing their instruments. Am I being naive...it was the 80s, after all, when miming extended to most 'live' performance....
@@gizmonovack The ones looking gormless are just people who wrote in to be on the show. I had a girlfriend who was a regular. Anyone who could dance was professional, which is most people there.
...Ah yes, the 80s, a better time when you could enjoy yourself without the pressure of knowing what you could say, what you could laugh at without being berated by society and, more importantly, holier than thou types on social media...in fact a world without social media! Top of The Pops in it's prime before the completely unsuitable and untalented Andi Peters was given the producers job, before swearing and sexuality crept into music! Before society crushed the will!

They still do. Apart from the sax player they travel around Europe playing the top jazz festivals and clubs. I've been to see them in London, great guys and supremely talented musicians.
@@Wally-H Interesting to know they're still performing. I loved this track as soon as I heard it for the first time recently on the Top of the Pops repeats on BBC4.
@@ajs41 If you could see the whole of my CZcams profile photograph, you would know that I am actually standing in the Pizza Express Jazz Club, London, next to Mezzoforte bass player Johann.
I want these awesome times back. 💜🥰❤️😍💙
My favourite jazz funk song Class

Fantastic tune and one of the rare occasions that a Band played a tune "Live" on Top of the Pops!

This Is My Real Garden House Band Mezzoforte Garden Party For You All Now
The entertaining muzak.
Wasn’t this used as the theme for Mike Smith’s BBC1 teatime entertainment news show Friday People too?
And Fry & Laurie’s doomed TV pilot ‘The Crystal Cube’ in 1983
A version was also used by the BBC as the theme tune for their midweek Horse Racing coverage around the same time as Friday People.

This is the Song where all Former NDR2 Radiohosts announced the weather all over Europe: London, bedeckt 13 Grad
Did they Wright this or is it older?

All of the dancers and crowd dancers are actors

@@duncanparsons They are that tight live though. Check out their awesome 40th anniversary concert on CZcams and you'll see what I mean
Before the sugarcubes and Bjork mezzoforte put Iceland on the map
I prefer this to those two.

FWIW : TOTP was never live music. Never. Ever. That was why by the '80s, people in the UK were more interested to watch/listen to "The Tube"
