Richmond and Virginia Beach are on the higher end for Virginia, but other places, especially Alexandria (my hometown) have low rates. I have lived throughout Virginia, and every time I move, I check crime statistics in my target areas and realize how spoiled I've been by growing up where the crime rate per 100k is in the hundreds, not thousands. I toyed with a move to West Virginia, and the staggering crime rates changed my mind. Hampton, Portsmouth, and Petersburg have the state's highest crime rates.
I guess Southwest VA doesn’t exist. Abingdon has the state creeper trail and the Barter Theater and lots of little shops. It’s in the Appalachian Mountains and there are lots of professional wealthy people, if all you care about is money. Virginia does NOT stop at Roanoke. Our mountains are beautiful.
If I may ask, that was a lot of good knowledge you just said there what areas are from Lee the most affordable, but also very nice and safe if you want to consider growing a family
You did a GREAT job of picking out the most horribly expensive places to live in the Commonwealth. Nice places to visit, but not to live if you are on a budget. I was born and raised in VA, and the only one in your list I might consider is Blacksburg, and it is growing so fast and so congested, I would have to think long and hard about it.
Alexandria is my hometown, and I've also lived in Arlington, Fairfax, and Middleburg/Upperville in Loudoun. I've lived in Rockbridge Baths, near Lexington, in Monroe (outside Lynchburg), and Lovingston in Nelson County. The more rural places are spectacular, but jobs are scarce and services are non-existent. I spent the first four months in Nelson trying to find a primary care physician accepting new patients, and ended up going to Cville instead, a 2-hour round trip. Living in the more densely populated NOVA suburbs is absolutely more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Services are amazing, schools are among the best in the country, and the standard of living is higher. Medical care, emergency response times (EMS/fire services), crime is low (which surprised me, as I'd assumed that more rural areas were safer), and salaries are higher. Jobs tend to match the COL in a particular area, so it's more about amenities, QOL, education, and employment opportunities for me. I still head down to Roseland for killer views and Saunders Brothers peaches, but head home to NOVA once I get my fix. Luckily, there is no shortage of options throughout the state.
Living in NOVA (Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax and Washington DC) rentals can be almost $3k-$5k per month! Rent: about $2500 low. Electric/Water: $125-$200 HOA: $300 $15 minimum wage doesn't pay the bills! Must earn atleast $100k to live comfortably! Otherwise move!!!!

Leesburg is Loudoun, and they quoted the median home price. I live in Fairfax, and it's expensive, similar to Alexandria and Arlington, but jobs are plentiful and median incomes are high. When I rented a cabin near Wintergreen in Central Virginia, my rent was cheap, but services were non-existent and my electric rate was insane. Highest electric bills I've had in my life. It all evens out.

Farmville is nice to live but don't try to hire any businesses locally to provide services or big ticket items because they are way too greedy and borderline crooked. Get your home repairs and basic services from Richmond or Charlottesville businesses.
I have lived here since 1983. Hampton roads is economically depressed. If you are Military or section 8(welfare) you can get the nicest apartments or house because the rent is guaranteed! If you are worker that is just above the poverty rage, then life will be hard. The real estate market wants that easy money. Poor people live in luxury apartments paid for by the government. If you are 🤍 white, Don't move to Portsmouth VA. With a mostly black population, you will be subjected to many rude, aggressive, racist people who will do there best to annoy you when ever possible. I look forward to leaving.
This video did a good job on pointing out good places to live based on job, retiree and education, thought I think the order is a bit wonky. Does Virginia have higher taxes than some states, yes. Does Virginia have lower taxes than some states, yes. It is all relatives on your income and what it are use too. This is list is based on a number of things than just expenses. Also I know people have feelings about crime in their area but this video is to appeal to a wide audience not living in Virginia. The fact is that Virginia has a crime index rate half of what the entire nation is and most is not all places named have a crime index rate that is half the state. To say that these area are so unsafe as to stay away would be about the same as saying don’t live in 75% of places in the US as it is to dangerous.
Actually they showed the Norfolk scenery when they talked about Chesapeake. I've lived in Virginia Beach for over 30 years, Virginia Beach is much more than the oceanfront.
Love my state i live here in Alexandria and i enjoy a lot things to do outdoor play and many histórical towns aroud and the best very close to DC the capital ,Arlington and Oxon Hill Maryland and the New Casino and National Harbor i never going to move from here is perfect low crime and nice People of all races im Salvadoream decent and i never felt discriminate really really good People here come invest and live here
Alexandria native here, and I agree! I have always loved the diversity of the area. I moved south of Charlottesville for a few years, and it was strange. Beautiful place, and nice people, but not diverse at all. Cville is, because of UVA, but not the surrounding areas.
I noticed that this video is posted on 05/14/2022. I live in Northern VA and Arlington and Leesburg used to have one of the best school. However, the school standards have gone down and it's going down the toilet. The author doesn't have a clue on terrible school systems since the pandemic.
Leesburg is about 1hr away from DC and very close to WV. You forgot to mentioned Fairfax, Falls Church, Mclean, and Reston. All expensive to live there now but where isn’t nowadays
Thank you for not mentioning the absolute best place to live, which is where I have lived for twenty years. It's becoming a little too populated for me, but it's still a jewel in the state. Just enough in the country and yet ten minutes from anything you need, very little traffic and beautiful walks. Affordable, accessible, upscale and convenient. Let's keep it a secret.
Lees burg inexpensive? I have friends who live there, their house is over a million dollars. I lived in Vienna for over 30 years. It is not a sleepy little town close to the big city. It is an urban area with big city right there, like Tyson Corner. I also live in Alexandria and taught in Arlington. Since Arlington use to be the County of Alexandria, you cant tell where one ends and the other begins. Definitely needs an update.
I live in Virginia all my life I really wouldn't live in any of these cities. There ran bye liberals high cost of living I prefer the mountains of Bedford County where I live
Bedford's beautiful, but I am back in NOVA where I'm from. As a lifelong liberal and Virginian, I appreciate the education, employment, diversity, culture, and safety of my liberal hometown (Alexandria) and environs.
Virginia has gone downhill in so many ways. People are leaving the state in droves. I've lived here most of my life coming from North Dakota as a child & I so desperately want to leave Virginia but my husband isn't ready just yet.
Leave him behind ;). Just kidding. Lived in this state all my life and it is not what I remember. Crime, education with bias, too expensive for many to afford. Virginia got taken over by the federal government. Being the suburb to DC meant folks from all over moved in and brought their federally funded dreams with them. The outer areas in the valley are overrun with drugs. City folks left the DC Metropolitan area because they could not afford to live there. What they brought with them was not good. Now Fairfax is New York. WooHOO
Um, is this video just aimed at transplants that make money? My wife and I moved about 8-years ago and we make in the very low 6-figures our house cost $450,000 and that's not big city housing. We live in a nice town called Herndon about 30-40 miles outside of DC.
I've been living in Arlington, VA in the downtown urban area near 2 blocks to the metro station for 30 years which I love, however, it's time for me to move out to Prince William County end of December to see how I feel and stay there a least two between three years. We will buy a house in Northern Virginia nearby the metro station and workplace as well.

They should absolutely teach the truthful history of a country founded by colonists who committed genocide against the native people, then built an entire country on the backs of enslaved people, fighting a war to retain the vile practice, and following it with segregation, red-lining, and systemic racism that persists to this day. That said, despite the natterings of the gullible, CRT is a graduate level course taught to law students, not elementary school kids. Loudoun is gorgeous, but there seems to be some bizarre gathering of teabagger spawn out there, dragging down the commonwealth. Mayhem at their school board meetings regularly making the news is not a good look.
Arlington is a county, town of Vienna is in Fairfax county. The Commonwealth is awesome, native here and I love it. Lot's of great places to call home and some real s#it holes too. Just check things out for yourself. 👍
Town of Vienna is an independent town, not part of a county. Part of Tyson's that has a Vienna address is called Vienna, but like the Alexandria part of Fairfax County and the City of Alexandria, they are separate entities. I believe they were speaking of the town of Vienna here, rather than Tyson's, given the density figures quoted.

I would give back my British citizenship to return to Virginia, I'm a USA Naturalized Citizen. I was pushed out by one Fed Agent. No trial just calls late at night threatening. In 2010 I had given two files. One file contained Bin Ladens location, sent. Certified mail to NSA/CIA/Whitehouse. Each got copy - it was prior to raid..... Plus meeting with security. Then the raid took place all matched..... Location/date of raid precise/seal team 6 - plus risks attached .... The eventual helicopter vortex / funeral at sea on carrier include time. After the raid their were arguments, that's why in my view why the initial storyline changed - although the salient facts remained the same. I love the USA - nothing like it. I had been living in Old Town Manassas - Wellington Place with my then Govt wife. We both ended up on the street, she had been in just short of 30 years with the government. In the UK the marriage came to an end.... UK government refused her entry at Heathrow - possibly coincidence I don't know. Anyway I lost all that meant anything to me. In all of this my country the USA came, and still does come first. Since leaving so much has happened in the in the United States but it remains the very best in the world. (In the compound smouldering ashes piled up - yet the copter although confined did not spread them.... So would you burn what could be vital Intel, only if you already read it! But it was reported Laden's men lit it... But the copter would have blown it everywhere. .Of course I know more but that's enough. . As I say it's a fine detail to what ended a successful raid - yes I told the truth because I want home - I earned it)

Completely amazing 🤩 Rural is great 👍 takes you a while to get to cities Fredricksburg Charlottesville Culpeper Northern Virginia ….. but consider traffic in these places are the worst in the COUNTRY takes you 30/45 minutes to get 15 miles …… if your stuck in rush hour can be hours …… the cities you mention are some of the most expensive in the COUNTRY. Fact Check
Love your videos
Fully agree ♥️✌️🇨🇦
Richmond is one of the most crime ridden cities in America I know that for a fact.
No respect for our beautful Southwestern Virginia
She thinks the state ends at Blacksburg
I just left Norfolk and it was one of the worst places I've ever lived.
Somehow, Williamsburg having 4 million strangers trapsing through town every year is not a selling point in my book.
Leesburg is no longer a budget living place.
You might want to revise your assessment of these places. They must have paid the editor to say nice things about these areas of Virginia. Try again.
Leesburg was not established in 1958 more like 1758 and is named after Robert E Lee, also the average home cost in Leesburg is 700k…
🙏😊
Good to know!
Lees burg is on every ones list. So now it is not a budget place anymore more. The best places are the ones that are not on CZcams
I like how they showed Norfolk scenery when showed Virginia beach
Actually they showed the Norfolk scenery when they talked about Chesapeake. I've lived in Virginia Beach for over 30 years, Virginia Beach is much more than the oceanfront.
Waymin, lol, I know y'all lying......when did Va beach start having palm trees😂😂😂Im fr Hampton. Y'all wrong
@@SheilaR.08 Yes friend is really cool nice Virginians are great !! Saludos blessings 😊😉👋🙏🤝🙌
Thank you 🙏
Have fun driving in NoVa though
As a Virginian, why do you show video clips of places that are clearly not in Virginia if your video is about the best places to live in Virginia?
Cool video Thanks for sharing your time with us 2 Canadians living on the Gulf of Mexico sending support to you Cheers J&D ✌️✌️
♥️🙏🇺🇲🇲🇽🇨🇦🙏♥️
I noticed that this video is posted on 05/14/2022. I live in Northern VA and Arlington and Leesburg used to have one of the best school. However, the school standards have gone down and it's going down the toilet. The author doesn't have a clue on terrible school systems since the pandemic.
Not as long as youngkin is gov
Ugh, yep. Already counting the days.
Leesburg is about 1hr away from DC and very close to WV. You forgot to mentioned Fairfax, Falls Church, Mclean, and Reston. All expensive to live there now but where isn’t nowadays
Reston is Arlington county
Thank you for not mentioning the absolute best place to live, which is where I have lived for twenty years. It's becoming a little too populated for me, but it's still a jewel in the state. Just enough in the country and yet ten minutes from anything you need, very little traffic and beautiful walks. Affordable, accessible, upscale and convenient. Let's keep it a secret.
is it near i-81?
damn ok boomer
Stafford?
Why keep it a secret that seems selfish
Lees burg inexpensive? I have friends who live there, their house is over a million dollars. I lived in Vienna for over 30 years. It is not a sleepy little town close to the big city. It is an urban area with big city right there, like Tyson Corner. I also live in Alexandria and taught in Arlington. Since Arlington use to be the County of Alexandria, you cant tell where one ends and the other begins. Definitely needs an update.
People moving to VA from midwest need to know about copperheads.
Just visited Ann Harbor to see family. The roads could be better, that's my only complaint lol. And they told me property taxes are to high.
Been in Harrisonburg for 42 years and don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
BUT the Golden Corral closed!!
In future i'll come insha allah... My fmly lives there.. ❤️
I live in Virginia all my life I really wouldn't live in any of these cities. There ran bye liberals high cost of living I prefer the mountains of Bedford County where I live
I'd rather live in Roanoke than any of the cities mentioned.
Bedford is gorgeous..love downtown and your hospital is awesome
Bedford's beautiful, but I am back in NOVA where I'm from. As a lifelong liberal and Virginian, I appreciate the education, employment, diversity, culture, and safety of my liberal hometown (Alexandria) and environs.
@@mikematerne4579 damn right
Arlington is expensive also.
WooHOO
I'm saving up to leave this state too. I hope your husband realizes there are much better places to live soon. I'm praying for yah 👍
Um, is this video just aimed at transplants that make money? My wife and I moved about 8-years ago and we make in the very low 6-figures our house cost $450,000 and that's not big city housing. We live in a nice town called Herndon about 30-40 miles outside of DC.
😃
Next episode will be on
Chicago, IL
I've been living in Arlington, VA in the downtown urban area near 2 blocks to the metro station for 30 years which I love, however, it's time for me to move out to Prince William County end of December to see how I feel and stay there a least two between three years. We will buy a house in Northern Virginia nearby the metro station and workplace as well.
what downtown Arlington is a county not a city
@@eawatahatanguatama383 Arlington is a CITY in Virginia with a population of 236,434. Arlington is in Arlington County and is one of the best places to live in Virginia. Living in Arlington offers residents an urban feel and most residents rent their homes.
@@c.mcmillan4323 it is not a city just because it looks likes one dont make it one is a county
@@eawatahatanguatama383 Haven't you lived in the Arlington County area before, Hiawatha, yes or no? I used to live in the downtown area for 30 years from a condo high-rise tall building but I can't tell you and give the name of the downtown area in public, sorry. Arlington, Virginia is an urban county. Maybe you're right not a city.
MOST OF THE PLACES LISTED WERE EITHER IN DC OR RICHMOND.
VERY EXPENSIVE FOR MOST PEOPLE ESPECIALLY RETIREES.
THERE ARE TOWNS SUCH AS HARRISONBURG/WINCHESTER/WARRENTON/LEXINGTON AND FREDERICKSBURG TO CONSIDER.
Leesburg's schools are rated A+? I heard about the (Ugh!) critical race theory.
CRT is Amerikkkan history literally look up the history of Blacksburg Roanoke Richmond
Falls church, fairfax not on the list? You have NO idea what you are talking about
Arlington is a county, town of Vienna is in Fairfax county.
@@SheilaR.08 Vienna is Fairfax county
Appalachia mountains is the best place in Virginia but you want like it you can't see at nite we don't allow street lights and hard top roads in my neck of woods
When i hear alexandria in virginia ,my mind is "the walking dead"
But the copter would have blown it everywhere. .Of course I know more but that's enough. . As I say it's a fine detail to what ended a successful raid - yes I told the truth because I want home - I earned it)
How is it living in Norfolk area or Chesapeake plan on moving to Virginia but not sure at all

Currently in Alexandria Virginia.
Need to move!

I turned it off when you recommended vienna.
For all people commenting...could you pls recommend a Town in. Virginia that you actually like and would be a great place to live for a middle income person...thank you
Shawsville is a quiet peaceful little town between Christiansburg and Roanoke very low crime good schools and a Blue ridge mountains all around.
You might try Bastian or perhaps Cedar Bluff.
Fredericksburg. Winchester. Culpeper.
Don’t come here!
Interesting...
I was born and raised in Arlington. Shocked it’s #9 and lower than Richmond 😂
No love for Smithfield...
Nope, they trifling!!! It's cool though we shall keep making there bacon, sausage, etc #surry
The best place to live is that where I live: the highlands in Chesterfield
🤫Shhh, don't tell 'em. Lol, I rather keep it to myself
Nice
Arlington is a County not a city. There are cities inside Arlington but it is the county
VERY SUPER
You said the employment rate in vienna is 3%. That sounds awful
Probably meant unemployment.
You literally picked all of the worst places in Virginia.
The only thing i can say i dont like about Virginia where i live now is hight taxroll also the payment of tax for using of the road every year and house and rent prices are going up so hight because of the develotment of the many cities in the state specially fairfax Alexandria, Arlington, woodbrige ,vienna and Tysons Corner a big growing City near by Alexandria is beautifull modern New but spency to live now but still you can manage to live here saving or finding a really good job around to pay the Bills is nice i can say and many things to do you never get bored trust me 😊😉
Please make a video about Maryland
Thanks 😊
Just a quick warning - Maryland is more expensive than VA.
#7 being Virginia Beach 😂😂😂😂 you can tell they just looked up major cities in VA 😂😂😂
It’s expensive but with a good government job u will be str8 in Arlington and Alexandria u right by DC and u can have fun in those two places plenty of jobs and can sleep peacefully

That's where I grew up
You have got to be kidding me. These are not the best cities in Virginia.
All you know about is eastern part of the state you need to do more research
