    • @14Duval
      @14Duval Před rokem +3

      He didn't mean to have a weak right wing it only became his strategy when he knew Davout would came late.
      He had ground advantage on the heights of Prätzen before ceding its position to the Austro-Russian, mimicking a debacle in the sight of the enemy.
      It was part of a mind game, he wanted them to be over confident, into thinking the french didn't wanted to fight and so to incite them to attack first to the slightest apparent weakness. (Austerlitz is just after Trafalgar, France just lost its navy and with it the plans to invade England, he needed a decisive victory to end the war and quick before the prussians came in aid)
      The video does not depict it but the meteo played a big role into his strategy to reconquer the heights of Prätzen.
      The prelude of the battle of Austerlitz is very interesting and show the great general he truly is.

      French army was still better trained and organised than their opposition thanks to Napoleon. Historians studying these battles can’t concretely puts which Russian commander was in command of which unit because of the way the Russian organised their army, which was considered antiquated. This was demonstrated on this very battle when a numerical superior allied army can’t break 2 corps of the French army on their weak flank.

    • @christopheripoll2580
      @christopheripoll2580 Před rokem +5

      This map does not show - or marginaly - how Napoleon was a strategical and tactical genius :
      A/ this map does not show how Napoleon tricked the Autrians and Russians into battle when he asked for a ceasefire. Prussia was about to join the coalition and he needed to trigger the battle fast.
      B/ this map does not show Napoleon's intensive battlefield scouting, how and why he chose this one
      C/ this map does not show Napoleon abandoned purposedly the Pratzen heigths, once again in the view to fake weakness and to trigger the battle.
      D/ it undermines how the French right flank was purposedly left weak, and reinforced during the battle by over-exhausted troops, who forced-march dozens of miles in a record time.
      E/ this map does not show the weather, with a thick fog in the early morning. And it does not show how Napoleon changed is plan during the battle because of it. Originally, the left flank - including massive cavalry - was supposed to storm the Pratzen heights, while the centre destroyed the Allied left. The fog made Napoleon carry a head-on infantry charge on the heigths because they were covered by the fog.
      Of course, the French army was the best in the world, but Napoleon made miracles too.
      And FYI, this battle is still studied in every military school in the world.

    Honestly really the only reason Napoleon won was because Davout had arrived just in time as he forced marched III Corps for 2-3 days and they had just arrived in time as French troops were being pushed back from telnitz and sokolnitz by the allied attack but Davout was luckily one of the fastest moving corps
