    Hey Crin!! We do iem monitoring for clubs, concert, and other venues. We have about 150+ units in our budget road case that we use for opening acts, club acts, etc. I thought you'd like to know, among them are 30 sets of og Zeros, five in each color( female artists really like to match iem color to their ensemble, blue if they are wearing blue earrings for instance;) therefore we stock every color. We will do the same with the Zero 2. But what I really wanted to let you know is the og Zero can be eqed to fit almost anything. Some iems bottom out or lose control when you bass them up a bit. I've had drummers and bassists using the OG and were completely satisfied. The OG Zero eqs very easy, A boost or cut here or there is all you need. Of course we don't use a 10 band app on a phone , we use pro 31 band analog or digital eqs. That means I can pull that 10 k down a few notches without affecting any other band. With these eqs, center position on any band is basically off, it doesn't engage that band unless it's moved from center position. I thought you'd like to know that it is in fact one of our customers favorite iems, and the fact you can make eq changes without bloating or other problems is probably not known by much of the hobby. We are on the opposite side of the spectrum, in the studio filming we are on the recording end and the hobbiest are on the completely opposite end, with the finished recording, the same thing applies live. We couldn't do either without eq. So an iem that you can eq without problems is exactly what we want. I'm looking forward to hearing the Zero 2, it'll be in good company!!
    Congratulations on the collab!!
    All the best,

    • @thesonnytackettshow7949
      @thesonnytackettshow7949 Před 7 měsíci +20

      @@altair_sound no, if something works for us it works. We have many other choices to choose from. There are many mid and high level iems that do not take kindly to eq, especially in the bass region. This new versions graph looks close to what the OG looks when eqed, but every musician is different, it might sound perfect to me but he wants more bass; at that point we’d switch iems. That’s why we carry a lot of choices. Most high end artists have customs, so we seldom need those unless someone breaks one etc.
      Also, the OG ( this version too probably) are not the best fit for female artists, so there’s that too. But its ability to be eqed without instant distortion is a big plus for us. But we’re still talking of the budget end, it’s a deal in that category.

    • @nachot6592

      @thesonnytackettshow7949 Před 7 měsíci +9

      @@nachot6592 thanks for confirming that bro!! So many iems don’t eq well! So it’s useful if it does. Another Crin collab, the Truthear Zero, is much fussier with eq. Touch that bass and it bloats every time. It’s great for certain musicians, drummers, bassists, etc. , in its stock tuning. But you definitely do not want to give it to a vocalist. The Olina is great for female vocalists, but you don’t want to give it to a drummer! People in the hobby don’t realize that when they see their favorite band in concert
      Every artist has an Iem with an eq in the chain somewhere. It may not need to be used but it’s there in case. I’m excited for this new Zero2 because I’m thinking it Will eq well like the OG, and we might get a few surprises. All the best, Sonny T

    So, I have tested the "Moondrop Chu 2", the "Tangzu Wan er SG" and the "7Hz x Crinacle Zero:2" (unfortunatly not the Hola).
    And here are my preferences as an freelance event audio technician:
    Accessories:
    Out of the box these 3 have simular accessories, but the Chu2 has a little leather etui for storage. But i recommand for all of them a better case.
    Cable:
    The cabel of the Tangzu is thick and is in 2 seperate cable insulations. The auricle-part is stiff and not realy adjustible.
    The 7Hz is also in 2 cable bundles and thin. It is the one that has not a 90 degree angled jack. It has a plastic part to close up the cable up to the chin. The ear part is firm and flexible.
    The Chu 2 has both wires in a single insulation, that is good to wind it up. The ear piece is medium stiff and simular as the Tangzu, but it seems more flexible Out of the 3 it feels the best.
    I think the cables are all out of PVC insulation.
    The connection type of the cables are different, so watch out if your looking for an alternitve.
    Feel, comfort and sound insulation:
    The feel and shape of the Tangzu and 7Hz are very simular with the plastic body and shape of the earbud. But the 7Hz reaches out a bit more and the angle of the ear canal piece is like 45° (Tangzu is mor like 74°). The Tangzu fits me better.
    The Chu 2 is very small and has a metal body (so they can be a bit cold for the first minute). They are seemless and are with 6grams the heaviest, but it feels more premium.
    I was suprised of the sound insulation.
    The Moondrop has the most dampening and with the Zero:2 you can hear most of your envirement. THe Wan er are simular as the Zero:2, a bit more insulated.
    Sound:
    Here comes the main part of the analysis.
    Chu 2: is a warm headphone wirh enough punch in the lows. It shines in the low and midlows, but are also good in the other regions, but not as bright and clear as the others. Overall good/ sounding IEMs with a feel for the bassline.
    Wan Er SG: great response over all frequencies, good medium lows and lows, but not with alot punch. Great clearity and bright sound. For me the sound the most linear and my favourite.
    Zero:2: has the highest clearity and good response in the highs an mids. But idk the lows and midlows are really weak. So maybe there good for classical music, but for me there is to less bass. And i like clear headphones.
    Ranking:
    So after all this is a short summary. I tried to explain it not to tachnical. This is my opinion:
    The Wan Er has the best linear sounding with just enough bass and could be my daily driver. It has ot the best buildquality and sound insulation.
    The Chu 2 is more warmer and a good pair of IEMs. Overall it has the best quality, feels great and has a great sound insulation. For the style and comfort i would chose these ones.
    The Zero:2 are for people who like realy bright and crystal clear sound profiles. But they feel a bit cheaper and dont have enough insulation for outdoor hearing. They dont have much lows so they dont feel warm at all.
    Conclusion:
    These are all good headphones for this pricepoint, but i would not recommand the 7Hz that costs a few bucks more than the others.
    The Chu2 has the best comfort and style with a warm sound profile. And also a good soundinsulation.
    The Wan Er are linear and my recommandation.

    I know a lot of your audience is tired of the collabs but personally I like you putting what you'd like all different price points out in the world, especially since you make it very clear that they're by no way objectively the best thing ever.
    I feel like I really resonate with your personal preferences of a little bit more air in the 10k+ region and that sub-bass boost with a mostly linear midrange and smooth pinna gain, so I really appreciate you making the Zero.

    My main issue with the original Zero (other than channel imbalance) was with the shape of the shell: the angular protrusion made it painful to use for several hours straight. But I have heard that it's not a universal complaint, and the shape is fine for others, so just something to keep in mind. Otherwise, I actually liked the additional clarity for speech, though I can see how that can be tiring for music.

      ...I use the impedance adapter from the Truthear Zero Red with my 7Hz Zeroes 😊
      Yeah I know, not an option for most people out there, but it works really well.
      Though getting any other 10 ohm impedance adapter should technically work as well.

    • @sidesaladaudio
      @sidesaladaudio Před 7 měsíci +9

      @dannygraves4997 so i just measured my Zero with the Red impedance adapter. Interestingly, there's almost no change in the FR from 20hz-4khz, other than an overall SPL drop, but then after 4k it does seem like it may slightly lower the treble slightly like a small high shelf filter. I guess the Zero driver is pretty linear, up to 4k

    • @dannygraves4997
      @dannygraves4997 Před 7 měsíci

      @@sidesaladaudio Interesting, because audibly, it certainly makes the bass a bit more present and seems to push down the treble quite a bit on my end...
      I take it you've measured your impedance adapter with the reds and seen an actual change?
      Then again, now that I think about it, isn't that the whole idea of the adapter, to soften the high end so there's a perception of increased bass?

    • @sidesaladaudio
      @sidesaladaudio Před 7 měsíci +11

      @dannygraves4997 the adapter plays into the impedance curves of the drivers. The Red has two drivers, with the bass driver having a higher impedance than the driver that handles the mids and treble. So when you increase the impedance of the output with the adapter, the lower impedance driver loses more spl than the Bass driver, which is higher impedance. This gives the perception of a bass boost, really its making the mids and treble quieter overall.
      You can still have some sort of boost or change in FR with a single driver and impedance adapters, depending on its impedance curve. If a driver has an impedance peak, then that area will appear to boost when an adapter or higher output impedance source is used. Some IEMs do seem to get a bass boost from this, others seem to get a mids boost depending on their curve.
      Just from the quick FR measurement I did with my 7hz Zero, I'd guess it's pretty linear, up until it gets to the treble, and then the driver impedance might drop a bit. So when the adapter is added, the treble is probably tamed a bit. I guess it'd be perceived as slightly tilting the response down for more bass

    I actually really liked the resolution of the top end. I'll be interested to see if we've lost that with the loss of some of the air. Love the new look and QoL stuff though! The Righ channel is starting to go on my Zero 1s.

      I daily drive the Salnotes Zeros while on the go (with a Sony Walkman), and I daily drive the Truthear Zero Red on my PC, because the extra (bass) depth from the dual drivers just makes it so much better for gaming.

    Kept reading about these the past few weeks, pulled the trigger on Amazon and receiving these babies in blue tomorrow evening. I already own two other Linsoul KZS10 Pros and
    ZST (the blue/red colored ones) IEMs, and I'm much more of an over the head headphone fan, but, the reviews on the improved bass version of these were so positive, I had to buy them. I love me some good bass on IEMs, or headphones, although on the other hand, I'm glad my two HIfiman planars aren't over the top on bass, since those are more for a balanced warm listening experience with a good soundstage. They also suck a lot of power, which I don't find IEMs generally do. I will run these through my IFI xCan amp and Fiio player as always,
    and test them on my PC rig as well.

    Just going to leave a comment here;
    I bought these, got them a week later, and only used them for a day, but they sound better than any headset I've ever owned. All be it they haven't been that expensive, and the gaming model.
    These are a little too big on the outside for my ears, so I have to use these at an angle. But these are comfortable.
    For gaming: I haven't ever used earbuds or other IEM type headphone for it, but these do the job, in Tarkov for f.e: Pulling a grenade pin and throwing it, quiets the other sounds for a split second, but other then that, these sound amazing. Other shooters and games, the sound is full, and you can 100% tell where the footsteps are coming from.
    For music: Hoooly cow.. I mean I've never heard a more clear sound in a headphone. Even the tiniest things producers put in their songs, can be heard if you listen. The lowest of basses can be heard and even ''felt''. AMAZING
    For a score I give these a 89/100 only because I have to keep pushing these to an angle for them not to hurt my goblin ears.

  • @burns0100
    @burns0100 Před 7 měsíci +2

    I'll be honest I feel like Moondrop owns the king of $20 IEM with the Chu 2. Basically the same tuning as the Zero 2 now, has a metal shell, replaceable filter, a case, better cable, more standard 2 pin design. Honestly if they came with the Spring Tips still they'd be a must buy for anyone. Luckily I own the enough spring tips already that I have some to put on them but still without them for $20 it's easily better value.
    I mainly feel this way because I can't stand plastic IEMs or 7hz 2 pin design. The rest I could basically replace, the no case, the cable, the tips all easy fixes.

    • @SAINIDE

      what about QC issues with moondrop like condensation and all as they say , a big takeaway for me

    • @burns0100
      @burns0100 Před 3 měsíci

      @@SAINIDECondensation isn't a QC issue it's a material issue. Any metal IEM will suffer the same issue in a humid climate. Every one i've owned has. None have been any worse for it though, just dry them off and ready to go.
      Been using Moondrop for the last 5 years. Starfields still going strong, my KXXS only just had issues the other day and I got those on release. Chu 2 still work perfectly and my Moondrop Beautiful Worlds that I daily now, are only showing visual marks on the platinum metal shell which I could fit if I polish and buff them.
      I've not had an issue with Moondrop so I can't comment on that side of things. That's basically how QC/QA works. It's limited the best they can so majority don't experience it. Those that do tend to be vocal so it seems like it's a bigger issue then it truly is.

    I have sennheiser 598's and they were my daily when I picked up the zeros, having forgotten I had a "veil lifter" eq set up, I thought that the zeros were crap for a little bit, then once I remembered that and corrected it, they were better than the 598's, but it was between getting blessing 2's and buying my brothers edition xs'es, the zeros were a necessity because of summer and I needed to run a fan constantly, I wanted some isolation but where never going to be the be all end all for me. I went with blessing 2's because the edition xs compared to the zero... it was tone wise almost the same just not as detailed and I wanted to roll dice on a flaw I noticed in both. I do not regret that at all as the flaw is not present in blessing 2. honestly looking at getting the dusk now because someone said they preferred it over monarch mk2, and as I see our tastes in sound are similar, that's high praise.
