Why You Should Never Skip a Home Inspection, Even for New Construction Homes (2023)

  • Don't ever skip the home inspection, even when it's new construction. While new means new, it doesn't mean perfect. There are a lot of steps required to put a house together properly, and stuff always goes wrong. I could talk all day about the reasons for this, but it in the end, it all comes down to the same message: always get a home inspection. Even when it's new. To help prove my point, here's a small sampling of photos we've taken at new construction inspections over the past several months. Enjoy.

It's crazy to me that a brand new house wouldn't come with gutters!

Great video. We have lots of new construction being sold in our area, since the builders are offering so many incentives, such as lower interest rates. As a home inspector, we been planning to make a video like this. I already shared it to my FB page.

In my new community, there were multiple homes with waste pipe issues that that ran 8th the thousands to correct. A scoping of the drain system is money well spent even on a new construction.

As a home inspector of 10 years, I'm in disbelief with how many new homes are bought without a third party inspection.

The building inspector who inspected my house when new was caught taking bribes, which explains a lot of the problems I have. Sure wish I'd hired a home inspector before purchase!

@DisabilityExam - so was the crooked inspector with the city then? Otherwise, I'm confused.

The last time I had a home inspection he thought the door bell line had to be replaced because it was knob and tube electrical wire

Hi Ruben, do you use this YTer's "smoke out" technique when inspecting homes? He recommends it for houses that have been flipped. Slide over to about the 20:00 mark to skip all the pest control coverage to where smoke is recommended to detect broken plumbing pipe during inspections.
