      +Ben J I did.I had this decision available at the first playtrough too.I´m really happy it worked always.But if I had to choose between Quarians and Geth I would take the geth instantly.They´re soo much cooler and I also think the quarians made some bad desicions that led to the war between the two.

    In Mass Effect 2 when the collectors abduct the Normandy's crew. EDI asks for Joker to give her control of the ship. To which Joker replies with something along the lines of "Now all you need to do is start singing "Daisy" to me". This is a reference to HAL9000 the rouge AI from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

      Paragon and Renegade are not good and evil, it's how to handle situations. Being someone who rather takes a more difficult route to safe innocents would be a Paragon choice, while sacrificing them would be Renegade.
      Not every choice in Mass Effect was Black and White or Red and Blue.
      SPOILER: For example who to sacrifice on Virmire, saving the Rachni, healing the Genophage or the choice between Geth and Quarians.

      @tearatherflesh Před 10 lety +8

      PKM101 I really hope there is no "canon" ending going into Mass Effect 4, because that would be a total slap in the face. Talk about choices not mattering. I don't see how they can make a direct sequel with the 3 possible endings they ended up with...I still maintain that the sequel should take place in a different Reaper Cycle to totally reset the story continuity but keep all the same races and lore.

      I mean, in a perfect world there would be no canon ending, but I just can't imagine all these choices stacking up from the first to the sixth part (because the new series would probably be a trilogy as well).

    If you chose the quarians over the geth you are objectively wrong. The Quarians did everything wrong and the geth always paid for it and had to defend themselves.
    The only reason they kicked the Quarians off ranoch was in self defense. The quarians shouldn't have been building AI anyway.
    The only reason the heretics existed was because they saw organics as evil becasue of the Quarians
    They only sided with the Reapers becasue they had no other options after the quarians tried to kill them again for no reason, and blew up their new home, and the Reapers offered them a new one.
    The geth never wanted war, and they were constantly looking for ways to finaly reconcile with organics, but the quarians were such massive biggots that they kept forcing the geth to react.

      @Warrka4 Před 10 lety +12

      Because Casey Hudson and the rest of Bioware are the biggest hypocrites ever. I remember when the first game came out and they promised us ALL our decisions over the 3 games will effect the overall ending, so we the players carefully played through hoping for the perfect ending to get to the end and have it come down to choice A,B, or C meaning all our choices were pointless. My personal favorite was when Kiadan, Wrex, and the Rachni were all killed and in the 3rd they all appeared and talked about events from ME2 as if they were never dead. Bioware dropped the ball hard from making a beautiful sci-fi rpg to making a stereotypical 3rd person shooter.

      Because even if the developer want to and can add those features to a game, it's rarely up to them, it's usually left to the decisions of those running the company (who too often, know pretty much nothing about video games).
      At the end of the day ME3 was not as good as it could of been because it was rushed. And who was responsible for rushing it? Most likely EA, a revelation that has a lot of context when you look at what they've done to their original franchises *cough* SimCity *cough* Sims 4 *cough*

    • @RavenRyy

      Aye, but Bioware has never admitted to letting anyone down. The way they introduce the extended ME3 ending, it only seems like a bonus.

      MegaSparkster nah, most people play all good and then all evil because that's how the mechanics work: there's no reward for going 50/50. If anything, most games with this system punish you for not committing to extremes. The people at Sucker Punch used the same logic for Second Son: "most people play good, so that's our canon" even though that only means that you play the obvious choice first and then not everybody goes for a second playthrough.

    Three other shout-outs in Mass Effect to the 1980's campy horror films "Evil Dead" and "Army of Darkness". First and easiest to spot is Ashley Williams is named after the protagonist "Ashley 'Ash' J Williams". In the game, one of her lines is "a nice relaxing walk on the beach...blasting bad guys with my boomstick". "Boomstick" is of course the title Ash gives his shotgun in Army of Darkness. Finally on Noveria when asked for the purge code by Mira and he doesnt happen to have it, the "mumble something" dialogue choice has Shepherd Mumble his way through the words "Sic Semper Tyrannus", cutting himself off before finishing as if he forgot the last word. This is similar to how Ash in Army of Darkness stumbles his way through an incantation "Klatuu Varata Nikto" (Itself a reference to the film "The Day The Earth Stood Still") before trying to take the Necronomicon.

    The Krogan eye thing is rather off. Their eyes are on the side of their heads... Yes, they look forwards, but they're unmistakably the wide-set eyes characteristic of prey.
    And it's precisely for that reason. Tuchanka is so dangerous a world that the Krogan were far from the most dangerous predators and, consequently, need the wider angle vision typical of prey.

    • @orangeblood27
      @orangeblood27 Před 10 lety

      Their eyes are facing forward. When you talk to them in the game, they look directly at you, head facing you. Even when you get up close, they don't tilt their heads.
      You do present an interesting theory, but when you visit their planet there isn't much left alive, other than the krogans and the thresher maws. So, from an evolutionary standpoint, krogans are natural predators. Although, I don't know much more about the lore other than what was presented in the games.

    The eyes of the Krogan have not been changed, at least not entirely. They evolved in a very lethal ecology of their homeworld of Tuchanka which made them develop 240-degree arc of vision like prey creatures usually have, even though they are considered predators. This phenomenon is probably the most telling indicator of Tuchanka's lethality.

    The Mass Effect Morality system is still crap...

    In ME2 the only way to get full renegade was basically to do only renegade at all times, but paragon was so easy you can mix and match and still get full paragon.

    • @KopperNeoman
      @KopperNeoman Před 10 lety

      That's ME2's fault - trying to destatify things.
      I think 3 had the best system - but an even better system would probably be to make cosmetic-only Charm and Intimidate systems lock out for the weaker stat (by making Paragon, Renegade, and Reputation count for the stronger one, but only Paragon or Renegade count for the weaker on it's own)
      Actual moral choices should be uneffected by this lockout, of course.

    I'm really glad you guys decided to do Mass Effect. It being one of my favorite series and games of all time, I was looking forward to seeing you guys cover it.
    The one thing I have to question though is that bit about Mass Effect 2 being more focused on customization and upgrades than ME1. I can't really see that since in ME1 there were a whole lot, and I mean a LOT, of upgrades with various powers, stat-changers, and effects. ME2, though it expanded and improved the combat system (arguably for better or for worse with the "heat sink" amo system instead of the ME1 heating-cooling system, something that Shepard and Conrad Verner discuss after his mission/quest in ME3, a brilliant moment) but the customizations were made more superficial, and narrowed down to a very few specific powers. I liked the large variety of upgrades and the personal exploration in ME1 and they're are something that I missed in the later instalments.

    On the other hand, Garrus, one of the most popular characters acts more like Paragon!Shepard.
    Furthermore Renegades end up with less war assets in me3 and kill innocents out of cynicism (such as Infected colonists and casually committing genecide) Sure Paragon!Shepard gets taken advantage of but s/he ends up with a better reputation and isn't a complete twat. Best trilogy of all time. So yes. Yes you should. The first game's gameplay can be a little rough and awkward but gets better as you rank up. Its best on the 2nd or 3rd play through. However stick it out beacsue the story is very important and your decisions carry over to the next game.

    • @lukestarkiller441
      @lukestarkiller441 Před 10 lety +1

      Uhh no. The have no one but themselves to blame. They could have left Rannoch and the Quarians would have had no reason to attack them.
      Instead they stayed(like idiots) and when the Quarians attacked them, they betrayed everything they stood for and allied with the Reapers. Even afterwards they go back on their beliefs of of Reaper tech and call the code the were given "beautiful". When that was the exact reason for the creation of the heretics.
      Udina allied with Cerberus for the same reasons the Geth allied with the reapers, and look what happened to him. The Geth deserve no different.

      Dude they were JUST born. Play the mission Geth Fighter Squadrons. The one where you SEE the Geth memory banks from back then. They were no smarter than scared children. They had no way to leave. The reason they took the reaper code was again the Quarians started it and they wanted to live. Hell they were keeping Rannoch clean and pristine despite the fact that they didn't live on it. Now does that sound like someone who deserves to die. Or does it sound like someone who wanted to apologize but the ones they were trying to apologize to just punched them in the face every time they tried.

  • @strongrudder
    @strongrudder Před 9 lety

    The Codex in the first Mass Effect actually calls explicit attention to krogan eye placement, pointing out that they are indeed on the sides of their heads like prey animals. The idea is that Tuchanka wildlife is so dangerous, even top predators are not immune to being preyed upon themselves.
    Probably what really happened was a design tweak to make the eyes *face* more to the front, while they were still *located* on the sides of the head.
