  • The English Civil War manifests itself in New England where Royalist Maine is reduced by the creation of Parliamentarian Lygonia, both of which will have to stave off the northern advance of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. A three way conflict for legitimacy in a chaotic world.

Some of my ancestors are the ones who went from MA to ME. Others stayed in MA. I'm enjoying this series. Thank you!

Great job! I was aware of Topham, Merrymount, Saybrook, New Haven, but completely in the dark about Lygonia. I always felt Long Island should be Connecticut.

And unfortunately, the only Gorges that anyone in Maine may happen to know is the dreary fort that sits sentinel out in Casco Bay.

Never heard of this, even as a native born new englander...most ancient maps ive seen still list what today we call maine as " massachusetts".

  • @stabbrzmcgee825

That "County of York" map near the end shows "Saco" as Sawco, which is how a Mainer would pronounce the city and the river (saw-koh or sah co) and not like a paper bag Sack-o as many from "away" like to pronounce it. Just sayin'. Loved the two episodes I have seen so far.

Love your info. Would love to see those maps you use. is there a way to view them?

How did the Massachusetts Bay Company get a charter in the first place without getting approval from the Council of New England? For that matter, the pilgrims' colony of Pymouth? I think, Sir Ferdinando Gorges got ripped off by the so-called pius Puritans!!!
