The law of Jante, in my opinion, perfectly explains why Sweden is such a great country. People must be so humble there, and not so full of themselves. Here in the U.S. all you see is pride pride pride. Proud to be an American. Proud to be in the army. Proud to be a woman. Proud to be whatever. And while none of those things are inherently wrong, the problem is that people here think they're better than everyone else, and try to find more and more ways to prove such, even to the point of people constantly looking for ways they can be considered "prejudiced" or a "minority group." And while some of them are very very real and true, like POC or other minority races, Women, Veterans, etc. people will even find ways through those identities, or identities they make up, to complain and get offended by other's opinions in order to either feel better about themselves, or get special privilege because of it.
And when everyone, and I mean, nearly everyone, looks themselves in the mirror with the attitude that I'm special or better than everyone else, and I'm proud of who I am, everyone sees everyone else and thinks they're trying to take that pride away, in which you can imagine leads to a lot of chaos between groups. And yes, this is even true in politics, which explains why it's best to just not even say a word on the topic here in most settings.
People here think that in order to respect or to love one another, you have to agree with everything they say and believe, and not doing so is to "hate" them, and to strip them entirely of their dignity and identity. And no, that's not an exaggeration. And when you live in a place like that, many decide to just follow along and agree with their peers, hoping it's the right thing. And to be honest, I don't entirely blame them. For a country that supports free speech beyond anything else, we sure to get triggered when someone decides to give their opinions about things.
Anyways, I want to move to Sweden now. I think I could use a little peace in my life from all this chaos over here. And while it is manageable, just typing it out now makes me realize how much stress people feel just on this truth alone. People are very stressed here, and most of us don't know what to do with it
Fascistoid identity politics affects Sweden as well, though. Those hateful "woke" and "anti"-racist activists are here too.

When you compare crime statistics across different countries, you must also take into account the nature of the violent crime, not just the number of homicides or the number of physical assaults per 100,00 inhabitants. A country with a higher homicide rate caused by shootings may actually be safer for most of that country's inhabitants than another country with a lower homicide rate if all of the homicides in the first country are caused by turf wars between various gangs whilst all of the homicides in the second country are caused by random, unprovoked violence between complete strangers and between partners in relationships such as a wife may use her sex appeal to get another man to kill her husband so that she can claim the life insurance money on her husband's life or the husband might hire a hitman to kill his wife so that he can claim life insurance money on her life and move on with his younger mistress. These types of violence are the worst kinds, not the kind involving drug dealers of various gangs fighting over turf and customers. With gang warfare, most people are safe because they can take precautionary action to steer clear of certain areas at certain time of the day, such as night time, to avoid having ever come into contact with any gangster. But you cannot take any kind of precaution or evasive action when the violence is random or between spouses: Who would go around thinking that my wife or my husband is going to kill me. If they have such suspicion, they would pack up and leave right away instead of still staying together with their partner.

It's true, but it's gangs who prey on other gangs. Then it becomes a slightly skewed picture, yes shootings are more common, but that is because in Sweden has become the most common way to murder someone, if you look at murders as a whole, Sweden does not stand out significantly from the rest of Europe.
If you look at murders that do not take place in gang environments, they have decreased in Sweden for a long time.

@@swedichboy1000 From my experience, the easiest way to get a job in a decent to good company with less than 3 yrs of experience would be to seek for an industrial PhD opportunity. No company would let you go after 4 years with them, unless you are really really bad.

The thing is, Sweden is not in big need of skilled labor. If you come to Sweden you will compete with other Swedes and its easier to pick a Swedish person, especially if language is a requirement.

It's truly remarkable how they have mastered the art of self-centeredness without a care in the world for anyone else's well-being. And of course, let us not forget to mention those glorious 100 years of peace that they pranced about in. No wars, conflicts, or any form of strife whatsoever! How utterly delightful it must have been to simply sit back and enjoy life while the rest of the world was grappling with chaos and adversity. Very good idea that Sweden imposes heavy taxes on tobacco and alcohol. These 2 things create alot of problems which means alot of expenses and it makes perfect sense that the consumer is made to pay for them.

As the 'famous' old saying goes: "Man cannot live by rankings alone".
The problem is not when it's a real winter it's wonderful, but when it's clean and stays just above freezing. You get a lot of that weather in Southern Sweden, they are shit. However, the summers in Sweden are fantastic. The taxes are super good, it makes more people actually get rich.
A big disadvantage is that it is very difficult to find rental apartments, buying is very expensive (at least in the more popular cities) and don't be fooled by the price that is stated, it is a bidding process and sometimes the price is double the price that the bid is asking for.
You understand that taxes are nothing but stealing the earnings of other people's hard work, by threat of violence of the state?

I lived in Sweden most of my life but migrated about a year and a half ago. Just the last year alone, there were shootings, bomb detonations, robbery, vandalism, rape-attempt (towards my wife), the list goes on and on. The sad thing is, it was predictable but with such incompetent leadership over the past decades it had to go down this way.
I think this video is over-simplifying a lot. Regarding the climate. Some years in the far south of Sweden never even experience any snow or just for a day or two, while in the north there might be a full blown winter.
Also, the Swedish school education system is very questionable. It has been known to the public that Sweden has systematically improved the PISA scores by excluding low-performing students from taking the tests. This goes on on many levels and not just the PISA tests. I compared the knowledge of math between a 12 year old Swedish student (following a Swedish curriculum) and a student of same age enrolled in a Cambridge International curriculum or IB-programme, and the difference is massive. Absolutely astonishing. The Swedish curriculum is so far behind in math, its ridiculous. The result of it all is scary. The Universities and Collegies are lowering the qualification bars to keep the fundings. This means that the students that now (or tomorrow) graduate will be less competent and not be able to compete with international students. This is when Sweden will go really south. And its happening right now slowly but surely. There are reports about this, books published in recent years describing the issues but the government don't want to admit the issues. And how can you solve a problem is you can't admit it exists?!
I would also like to comment about the IT-job market in Sweden. I work in IT for years for Swedish companies and I have never heard of any IT professional with 5 years of experience take many months to find a job in IT in Sweden. The Swedish market is in very high demand of IT professionals right now and will be for a significant amount of time. A funny thing that you mention is that once the person changed the name, the person in question started to get interviews. I believe there might be some merit into that, but not in IT in Sweden. For other unqualified jobs, I am sure of it. I have seen that with my own eyes on countless occasions and various situations, but far less of that in IT and among experienced professionals. It's very easy to pull the rasist-card here, but the IT-market does not care about skin color as much as people seem to think. Sweden needs competence and Sweden don't know how to gain it.
All in all, Sweden is facing many challenges. I would never ever call Sweden for "one of the world's most developed countries". For me Sweden used to be something worth calling Good (or maybe even great), but has fallen into decay that began over 4 decades ago. I see more and more skilled workers leave the country. I see companies (like I did) leave the country, due to many many reasons. The above mentioned things is just the tip of an iceberg, sadly..
A comment to @Kjell Eson, what is it that you think Sweden is so successful about? The Nazi gold made Sweden rich, and once we abandoned the German school system, Sweden began a slow decay. The politics changed a lot during the past decades, leading to this, idiocracy. The old generation that had skills and competence built many successful businesses in Sweden, that really put Sweden on the map. That pushed Sweden on the horizon. But then what? These people are retiring and many of these companies struggle or have changed ownerships. Just look at our neighbor countries. Why do you think, many American or Chinese companies establish offices in Denmark for example? Why not in Sweden? Because the setup in Sweden for running business is really bad. Its contra productive. It kills creativity and entrepreneurship. And any profit made by the company is devoured by the government and haunted by the people... No way, I am gonna stay in Sweden and put my son into a Swedish curriculum. NO WAY!

I live in Sweden. I can see a doctor the same day, even on weekends (though clinics that allow weekend visits are extremely rare, my local clinic does allow it.) Getting a referral to a specialist is easy, but sometimes you need to wait about 3 months to see the specialist. Having private health insurance through your employer allows you to skip the wait.
But i gotta say that living in stockholm is beutiful. Yes there are many winter months but the summer gets more hyped and more fun! And it i pretty warm in the summer bc of the gulf flow but i dont recommend malmö

I was working with four Americans in Asia. They all had two jobs back home and earned good money, but worked 10-14 hours a day, leaving almost no time for family friends ore children. I work 8 hours a day five days a week in Sweden. And we compared our Lifes and income. The Swedish way came out on top in every aspect. We had lower costs, welfare healthcare and so on dispite Swedens high taxes. I had more money left in my wallet at the end of the month then any of the Americans. I have time to play with my children, my wife only need to work 50% , and we had no health issues. We will never ever move to the great country in the west. Never.

On the whole, relatively correctly described, albeit without context. If you talk about taxes, you also have to talk about what they finance. It is true that Sweden does not have that many ultra-rich, but on the other hand, most people here (and in the other Nordic countries) live significantly better than in the majority of other countries.
The so-called jante law is quite exaggerated in the article, there is some truth in it but it is far from an unofficial "law".
One thing that bothered me quite a lot throughout the article was that it is very Stockholm-centric!
Stockholm is not particularly representative of the country as a whole.
The cost of, for example, renting or buying a house is very much lower in most other places in Sweden. In principle, you can say that as long as you stay outside the central parts of the biggest cities, the living costs here are very reasonable compared to most countries in Europe. And especially when compared to the US.
As far as the so-called "wave of violence" is concerned, it is, like most political issues currently on the news, quite one-sided and with a clear political bias. The actual crime statistics speak a rather different language. Compare, for example, with the debate surrounding "illegal immigrants" in the US - as if that were America's biggest problem at the moment 🙄🤦🏻.
For a country that claims to be so advanced no access to washers and dryers is a deal breaker for us

4:20 The tax revenue as part of GDP is not the same as tax pressure. That is what the government get in, not what the people pay.
If we compare emplytax, income tax and VAT, Sweden have slightly more tax then Denmark, not less. This is largely due to much higher base deduct and threshold of tax increment. Even if again, procentage is larger in Denmark, because the tax deduct is higher, you pretty much pay less tax regardless of how much or how little you make.
There is just a few places where tax is actually lower in Sweden, and one of those is VAT on food, Food is generally actually fairly cheap in Sweden
1:20 the diffrance in Climate between Stockholm and very south of Sweden is much larger than people think. Specially so at daylight hours in winter. Also, while the odd snowstorms does happen in the very south, the snow typically melt away in a week or two, while it in Stockholm typically stay put for 3-4 month. On top of that, the south have generally temperatures above freezing in the winter, and it barley ever get under -5C, While in stockholm there can be one or two weeks with a solid -15 most normal winters. In the summer the diffrance is really small, and it might even be warmer in Stockholm
2:30 living cost is really not that high. The issue is that a lot of people confuse Stockholm for sweden. Stockholm is pretty freaking expensive. So is Göteborg and Malmö to a degree.
But go to any of the mid size 20 cities, its really not that expensive.
I just checked Norrköping the other week and there was flats avalible for €500-1000 for 1-3 room 5-10 minute walking distance to the city core. Combine that with the relative low price of food and power, its really not that expensive.
Sure of you compare to southern europe it's still way higher, but so are vages...
But of cause, if you earn a normal paycheck. Denmark and norway is for sure better. If you make a intenet living Sweden is quite a bit better.
7:00 the access to healthcare is sort of kind of right. but there is a caveat here. It depends on what region you are registered in. Some region the healthcare is quite good, some region its absolutely auwfull. This seams to depend more on administration than budget.
7:50 Finding work in Sweden is hard in general. Not only for foreigners. To a degree, it might be harder for people from Sweden, or at least that was the case prior. There is also quite a bit of education inflation. When everyone have a masters degree, nobody got a masters degree. There is pretty much no education that will give you a heads up in Sweden (possibly a MD)

When you talk about high taxes you need to compare into what it would cost you to save for say a university education for you child

Wow! Is this what you call downsides? We have the best possible roads, clean and tidy in our cities. This is a little of what our taxes go to. We have green parks and lots of playgrounds. Free school and school meals. Almost free healthcare. Then we have much, much more that is free or cheap that our taxes go to. We Swedes get used to everything, high food prices and expensive petrol. We care for ten minutes. We continue to live just as usual. I wonder if it is not the case that it is newcomers or people who live abroad who think that Sweden is expensive. I myself have an average salary and can live life with at least 3 trips abroad a year, without becoming poor from it. There is work for everyone. Stop talking about our high taxes, we Swedes have money and as usual we can get by. This is of course my own opinion. We have no beggars or people living on the street, everyone who is a Swedish citizen has the right to social benefits and a roof over their heads. That's our law. Everyone you see begging or maybe sleeping under a bridge is not Swedish.! ps, if you see a Swede begging or sleeping outside, then he/she has made a personal choice to do so. d.s

It goes across northern Siberia in Russia, continues through Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The latitude continues through the southern part of Greenland, then comes north of Labrador in Canada, through southern Alaska and then comes back to Siberia.
How then can you make a video where everything that touches 60 latitude is crap. Darkness, cold and more. What did you expect?

Jag har alltid som svensk förstått oh fått lärt mig att Sverige är en av världens bästa länder när der gäller utbildning, säkerhet, människo rätt, jämställdhet, miljön, vi behandlar alla lika, demokrati osv.
När man har alltid det där, vem bryr sig om vädret är lite grått mellan december till Februari.

I’m visiting Sweden for past 3 months and I couldn’t agree more with the video.Unfortunately I moved from Cape Town and I had higher expectations for Sweden but this turned out to be one of the most depressing places I’ve ever been to and all the reasons above play a part.There are definitely many places I’d move to before considering Sweden.
