"Originally called David Seaman, the song’s name was changed after a shopping trip to a thrift store where, in a lucky dip basket full of wallets, they found the wallet of a man named Marcel. Made curious by the cheesy 80’s identity pic inside replete with porn star mustache, the group took to the internet to find Marcel was deceased. Though a tribute to its namesake, Marcel, is really a song about love, confusion, and the gamut of emotions and impressions we have to run before we figure someone out."

The Liverpool band Her’s have died while on tour in the US, their label have confirmed.
The duo, comprised of Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading, were travelling to a gig in Santa Ana, California on Wednesday when they were involved in a road accident. Both members and their tour manager, Trevor Engelbrektson, died in the incident.

We are coming up again on the day Her's died. I posted this story before a few times but it has been a couple years. Back in 2018, I was dating a girl who's favorite band was Her's. We lived in NoVa and they were playing in California. She really wanted to see them play so we booked a flight out and stayed in a dodgy motel because she accidentally booked the wrong AirBnB haha. We stayed in Cali for a few days and explored around before the concert. The night of the concert, we were in a really full and cozy venue, called the Brick and Mortar House. There was a bar over to the right of the stage and I saw some curtains leading back stage with people entering and leaving. One of the guys who came from the curtain went to the bar and sat down for a drink. I made my way over to the guy and struck up a conversation with the man. He turns out to be the opening act for the show, Field Trip. A small indie band who I can only describe as lofi rock. The guy seemed very nice and we had a good talk about random stuff like The Strokes and other bands. I asked if he can get a guitar pick from Her's so I can surprise my girlfriend and he said sure. He made his way backstage, and after a few minutes, I got really impatient so I snuck my way towards the back. Behind the curtain right there was Stephen. Our eyes locked and he made his way towards me and stuck out his hand. I stuck out mine and we shook hands. He introduced himself very politely, even though it was his concert lol, and I said I was really excited for the show tonight. We exchanged some pleasantries and I asked him if he happened to have a guitar pick on him. He unfortunately didn't since he didn't really use one when he performs but Audun does. He told me to find him after the show and he'll give me one. The show was amazing and they played all the songs from the two albums they had. After the show, they were by the merch stand and were signing autographs and taking pictures. I made my way over there with my girlfriend and Audun handed me a guitar pick. It was a brown/maroon guitar pick that was way bigger then any pick I was used to using for guitar. it had a guitar brand name on it as well. I immediately handed it over to my girlfriend. Was one of the fondest moments I had in my life. 6 hours later I was back on a airplane to NoVa. Some things happened later and I broke up with that girl and missed the opportunity to see them a second time. I really am not a indie type of guy, my favorite bands are Guns N'Roses, The Strokes, and Red Hot Chili Peppers but I genuinely really liked Her's. They sounded like Julian Casablancas was playing the vocals, the beat came from something like a lofi song mixed in with electric guitars. The bass Audun played sounded like Duff McKagan in the live performances and all that mixed together gave Her's that unique sound. Rest easy...
and a little footnote, this song is my favorite. Like forgetting a old friend

This song reminds me of when I went to a uni showcase and I met a really sweet girl. I was getting to know her but I had to go because of the bus. On the bus I was playing mellow John Lennon and Mac Demarco songs. I was just so happy I found her but I never got any of her contacts so this song will always remind me of that day :)

Here on the second anniversary of their death. Rest In Peace Stephen and Audun. This was the first song of theirs that I ever listened to and I fell in love with it, along with the rest of their music.
So sad, I had tickets to see these two at the soda bar in San Diego a couple days before the accident. I went to the venue and it was closed and there was a sign saying how the show was cancelled. I later found out the reason why. So wild.

I've recently started listening to Her's again, I became a fan when they released this album in August 2018. Fast forward to April 2019, I was pregnant and they passed away. I was devastated, it's taken me years to listen to them again without balling my eyes out! I've cried again tonight and felt the desire to pray to the Lord Jesus that He saves their souls. Their music is lovely and timeless, I can finally enjoy their music again without greiving. Rest In Peace Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading ❤

I remember when I used to only listen to What Once Was and Don’t Think it Over because I didn’t want to listen to their other stuff, just because I didn’t want to have the thought that they’re bad, and then I started to listen to them last year, and I found out that they were dead, and I constantly think that me listening to them could’ve somehow changed anything. But now I listen to band and artists that I think will be good, just so I don’t miss out on any of their stuff.

After originally listening to Hers in 2019 I continued down my music journey. And I can say that I have heard quite a lot since then. And now I’m coming back to Hers songs and my perspective has changed. I always loved their songs but it has intensified even more. Their album is legit 8/10, it’s amazing I wish I could have been a fan when they were still alive and more so I wish they were here with us. So good, I’m happy they’ve gotten even more popular in these last few years.
