Ben Hillier was a bad choice for a producer....and I will never understand why they kept him for the next two albums as well....his production does not allow Martin demos to flourish.....
I wanted to like this album, but they messed up the mixing part of it. Dave's voice is sooo in the background and the whole sound is so washed out and all over the place that it is hard to enjoy it.
i mean idc really everything they make has its quality of uniqueness + the occasional randomized lyric battle of wise metaphors that defines everything about what music *should* be, to me at least idk i've listened to these people since day 1 but i can't find anything better than them no matter who i go to

It's not their best album, but I think it's the best after Ultra. Pretty with a different darkness from what they did with Alan, but still good
Totally agree... and Gahan proved to be a quality songwriter.
Some great songs on the album but the mix / production let it down.
