    I think something important in the endgame is that after MALISON the bot is drawing from a pool of 9 vowels, 6 consonants, and two of those consonants are Ws (and one is J). The odds aren't very good, but it's possible that it just gets a completely horrible rack and you can play out much faster and for many more points than the bot can, especially if you cash in the PREFIX hook. Seems more plausible to me than trying to force a bingo into existence on a board with basically no open lanes.
    Not sure which scoring play is best, but I would guess virtually all your chances in that endgame rely on the bot drawing UWW plus other unproductive stuff anyways, and I don't think you need to bingo to outrun draws like that (or at least not all of the time, which is what we're looking for in a situation as bleak as this)
    In fact I don't think we were that far from such a draw happening, bot can probably outrun you with ADIIOUW but it might already have to do unsavory things like 13M WO(O) to keep up the scoring, leaving itself with IIU, and maybe just maybe you can find a winning line there. I dunno. Tough stuff

    A common trend I've noticed you do is getting locked into needing a bingo and sacrificing many points. When you sacrifice that many points you are also taking a real chance that even one bingo isn't enough. I think even nob would be better than input. (but agree gorp is best)

    • @mackmeller
      @mackmeller  Před 29 dny +1

      Yeah, totally fair - I completely agree INPUT was a bad play. It’s always so hard to judge whether to go all in on bingoing or if you can claw back without one

      I would’ve played ROPE leaving GROPE front hook (assuming it’s valid in your dictionary) leaving the ING on your rack but then I don’t know all possible bingos so I need to leave ING to form bingos 😅

    I really like the play of refix. I do wonder about B(A)M though - I think personally I would have played O1 BOD just because it is so much easier for the bot to score there with Z X unseen and also easy rack cleaning plays that also score like VAW or YOWE or similar. Even though you might trade next turn, the O probably doesn't improve the odds of playing through it that much after B(A)M given the board texture. I'd sort of see it like BOD > some random play > a likely exchange > low scoring play that opens > and then you get first shot at whatever opening was made. With all that said it might be a stylistic choice more than anything. Super excited for the last 2 games, especially considering 2 wins on your end would mean I correctly predicted the final W/L (44-56).

    @axcertypo Před 27 dny

    Yeah, I think you play BOD O1 and be a tad less sad

    If it makes you feel any better, you were right on your feeling that it had either the S or a blank on its rack after CEBID

    Hi Mack. Thoughts about GRIP instead of GORP? Keeping the NON- prefix (pun intended), and the pull having 2 Is and 1 O left make it dangerous to keep your I. The only benefit of GORP over GRIP imo is the consonant-vowel overlap sequence making it easier to bingo.

    • @AmaranthRBY
      @AmaranthRBY Před 29 dny

      Another upside of GRIP over GORP is that after GORP the bot can bail itself out of some horrible racks (say vowelspam + one or two Ws) with a play like RAW or ROW on row 12, while putting the I there does not offer such bailouts
      Although looking at the board again there's also WOO at 13M

    I think saving the p was the right decision, the bot is always doing these hook plays because, I guess, sometimes the opponent simply doesn't have the tiles to block. But definitely gorp (which I thought was only spelled gawp, probably my UK upbringing) is better than input

    • @JDHinten
      @JDHinten Před 29 dny +1

      Gawp: (chiefly British) To stare stupidly or rudely; to gawk.
      Gorp: A loose mixture of dried fruit, nuts, frequently salt, and sometimes other ingredients; designed as an energy supplement for use while hiking, climbing, canoeing, etc.
      Different words, nothing to do with your upbringing.

      @@JDHintenGORP is also a verb in CSW with the same meaning as GAWP, I guess what they’re referring to

    Unlucky! I did enjoy your REFIX/PREFIX thinking. Unlucky the bot played MALISON. Surely POM would have been better than INPUT though?
