    What a wonderful video!
    My great, great uncle was Lewis Strang. You obviously know his history. It is so wonderful to have a live picture and video of the type of car he actually drove.
    Bravo to you!

      I had to refresh my memory and do a little looking into your great uncle Lewis… What a story! Thank you so much for your comment and pointing me in that direction. I plan on checking with Alan soon to see what kind of research is possible on his particular car, as it might relate… Have a great day!

    I feel compelled to add one or two thoughts to this story. Mr Vanderbilt, having seen the French GP in 1906 ordered ( it is believed) 10 smaller versions of the racing cars to race in the USA. Today, they are known as the Vanderbilt Renaults and there are five survivors. I was fortunate enough to buy one of these cars in the UK, it had been over here since before the 2nd WW. It had the same engine as the car here depicted here but I do know that it was a standard large engine Renault used in large Limousines at the time ( I have seen a very original one , then in the UK)The 1906 GP cars had 12986cc engines, almost twice that of the Vanderbilt cars. The two main differences between the Mr Travis car and the Vanderbilt cars is the rake of the steering column and the different rear suspension. The VCC lists the car as a roadster and the Vanderbilt car as a racer. There are a number of other differences not worth bothering with here. His car, nice though it is, is not a Vanderbilt car. Renault did make especially good cars. I drove mine for thousands of miles, raced it, hill climbed it and toured with it. I drove it flat out and achieved 82mph. The late Phil Hill drove it from John o Groats to Lands end ( over a thousand miles) without the slightest problem.
    I have written this in the interests of history and record, not in any way to denigrate the Travis car or the owner's experience of it.

      That is a great question, and I should’ve thought to ask that! I’ll try to remember to ask Alan next time I see him and I will post back with the answer. If I am to guess right now there must be some kind of a driveline connected pump or something? You have me curious too!

      @@2packs4sure OK I spoke with Alan and have your answer… The engine actually pressurizes or vacuums the oil separately by circuit based on natural vacuum and pressures from the engine as it’s running. This way it creates more oil movement by increase in RPM Not what I expected.

Kept my attention for the full video. Neat info on the headlights as well. I like the idea that if I drive, my wife should be in charge of any tire changing! Lol! How were these cars originally purchased, what means of monetary system was used? Was it Silver, and Gold? If so what was the original price of something like this?

    • @BarryTsGarage
      @BarryTsGarage Před 6 měsíci +1

      It’s pretty hard to learn the answer - the original race car was just built to win, which is maybe not that much different than racing programs today that don’t hold back… Then the commissioning of the 10 follow-up vehicles of which this is One, I’m not aware of any invoicing or pricing really being available since they weren’t offered or marketed to the public… Thanks for your comment!
