- The eater is a pattern in the Game of Life. See it devour some spaceships.
The Game of Life is a cellular automaton invented by John Conway in the late 1960s.

Remember, an eater can only eat one lane. A glider, off by a single pixel, will destroy the eater.

You can find all about this on conwaylife.com; it has been verified that an glider one cell off destroys the eater, and that the eater 1 can only eat on one lane.
Eaters are particularly important in Herschel conduits.
