  • Crystal runs away from home leaving her mother to fear for the worst. Agustin visits the doctor to discuss a potentially life threatening surgery to fix a deformation in his face, but makes progress back at school dealing with his anger issues brought on by bullying from other kids.
On Chicago's West Side, there is a school for the city's most at-risk youth - the Moses Montefiore Academy. Most of the students at Montefiore have been kicked out of other schools for aggressive behavior, and many have been diagnosed with emotional disorders.
Last Chance High takes viewers inside Montefiore's classrooms and into the homes of students who are one mistake away from being locked up or committed to a mental hospital.

If it’s so easy, go write the book on how to do it or get your own “Child Whisperer” TV show. You’ll make a killing and single handedly destroy the need for a juvenile justice system because kids will “just listen” and “behave.” It’s pretty easy to judge someone’s parenting and mistakes with this jerry springer-esque “My Kid is Out of Control” bullshit, but the reality is we don’t know 1% of what goes on in their day to day lives.

you really cant blame crystal for resenting her mom so much. her mom cares more about looking like a good mom for the cameras and in front of the teachers than she does about her own daughter. the fact that she was so shocked just from hearing kids curse on the bus goes to show just how little she knows or cares about what goes on in her daughters life. she doesnt deserve to have the kids that she does

I'm so happy people are seeing right through the mother's manipulation. I thought the comments were gonna be like "Poor momma, she's trying her best, she doesn't deserve such an ungrateful daughter". She's faking her concern for the camera, kids don't turn out like this for no reason. I believe Crystal when she says her mom was abusive. I hope she's safe wherever she is these days now that she's grown.

+calohtar Very true. Perhaps I should rephrase when I said she was spoiled and had no emotional issues. What I meant was that her mother has no control of her daughter, and does not discipline her accordingly. She doesn't command her daughter to do whats right and teach her how to be respectful. Therefore, her behavior towards her mom is the result of her lack of parenting.

you notice the beginning of the video, the mom sits there with no control ASKING her daughter to please turn the radio off. Get the fuck up and turn it off yourself and show her that her behavior in that moment is unacceptable and that shit isnt going to go that way. "She knows the rules and she has broken my rules"....fucking force her to act the right way, dont sit back and politely ask her if she wouldnt mind following your rules to teach her right or wrong. You can see the way she deals with the younger daughter as well, she whines to the kid and says "come on, you're misbehaving and giving me a hard time right now do you see that?" Thats not the way you deal with kids. You speak sternly and tell them to stop acting like that, if they want to continue then you take away somethin they care about until they behave properly. Tell her she has to go to bed early tonight if she doesnt stop, tell her she wont have ice cream this week if she doesnt stop, tell her you're not going to buy her a book that she wants etc....You have to use leverage with these kids, they're not rational...you cant just reason with them and tell them that acting a certain way is a good thing that they should do all the time. They're kids and they want to mess around and have fun, you have to give them an incentive to behave properly. Her approach is absolutely wayyyy to lax and not assertive enough. She allows the kids to walk all over her and she doesnt take control the way she needs to. That leads to the kids being sociopathic and thinking that they are allowed to make the rules and do things the way they want because thats how its always been for them their whole lives. The rules were always there, but they were following them the way that they wanted to because the mother was too weak to enforce the rules exactly the way she wants them. She bends and compromises for the kids and then they take that mentality with them to the school and the real world, she wants things her way and she will always try because thats how the mom let her act her whole life. I think a big part of these kids issues are parents that are either too weak to enforce the rules and disciplines they need to, or the parents dont know what to do for their kids, or im sure some of them simply dont give a shit about their kids.

Lettie Gonzales so kick their ass one time (within reason) and show them whos the one in the position of power. Use a small amount of force just to prove dominance if all else has failed. Be a fucking adult and raise a child that will be a productive member of society if the parent feels like theyre being held hostage. They're making themselves the hostage by playing the victim in the situation, rather than playing the role of the dominant. Take back control....

The mother needs to focus more on the child and the needs of her, how to properly disiplne and so on. I am a parent, and I also have two younger sisters 14 and 6 who I helped raise, so I am perfectly well aware of the issues to say that the parenting is more than half the problem.

There are obviously single mothers who are able to successfully raise healthy, stable children into productive young adults but the probability of such a thing happening increases dramatically when there's dual parenting involved.
