Acoustic Guitar Sessions Presents the Wainwright Sisters

- The Wainwright Sisters-Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche-boast a rich musical pedigree: the daughters of singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III, Martha’s mother was the late-folk artist Kate McGarrigle; while Lucy’s mother is 1980s folk-pop star Suzzy Roche, one of three talented singing sisters.
Most of the songs on their remarkable 2015 album, Songs in the Dark (Pias America), are lullabies that were sung to them as children.
The album is, as the Wainwright Sisters have said, “dark, mysterious and beautiful.”
There is a haunting glow to these sparsely arranged tracks, and the calming vocals and unhurried acoustic instrumentation have an unfettered quality that at once captures the simplicity of childhood and the sense that something more is laying in wait in the dark.
Acoustic Guitar Sessions paid a visit to the Wainwright Sisters before a show at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, California, and found them not the least bit scary. The duo performed a trio of songs from the new album: “Hobo’s Lullaby,” a ballad made famous by Woody Guthrie: “El Condor Pasa,” by Simon and Garfunkel; and “Lullaby,” by their father, Loudon Wainwright III. - Hudba

Okay, I’ll admit it. Based on this video alone, I’m in love with Lucy Wainwright. But alas, we are too far apart by age. So I must simply admire her music, and nothing more.

Just lovely! I first heard the Goebel Reeves' song Hobo's Lullaby from PeteSeeger and have sung it to many kids and adults over the past 60 years.
What a pile of talent came out of that family!

SO beautiful, I've watched this like 20 times now. I can't get over their voices together, stunning. I love all the Wainwright siblings but I had no idea they did an album together. I hope they do many more.

Perfection! I love these ladies. I even got to sing with them in London at a fundraiser for Kate’s cancer fund. I was in a choir and sang two songs with about 10 others. We sang Proserpina and Fairytaleof NY!

(As a song credit pedant, let me point out that "El Condor Pasa" was written by Daniel Alomía Robles in 1913 - he probably could use the mention way more than translator Simon.)
Back at WCAS in Cambridge in the Seventies we used to play Loudon, the McGarrigle Sisters, the Roches and (bien sur) Mr. Leonard Cohen. Don't think anyone ever considered the mix and match possibilities. (Wonder how long it will take Rufus and Lorca's contribution to the lineage to put out her own record?)

all three songs (and 2 ladies) are beautifully fine,such tender voices, strong too - and, folks, go after the original recording of father Loudon's "Lullaby". It's a bit much more sharp, edgy - I never felt it was about a child nursing to sleep - AT ALL - no... much more about putting an end to such matrimonial/relational/recurring/endless/counter effective Dispute. (when The Lady does not know to stop anymore- like some child... errrr... girjjl )

The title is El Condor Pasa, not "El Condo Pasa"! The condo should pass but in this case it is a bird. Who is in charge of titles?
