  • This is Part I of a multi-part series documenting the installation of a new Tesla Solar Roof and Powerwall at a home near San Antonio, Texas!
In this, Part 1, we talk with the homeowner and get her thoughts on why she selected a Tesla Solar Roof and we see the initial steps to get the process underway. It should be noted this is in addition to a full home restoration & expansion, so much more construction is underway at this project than what you might see at a typical installation.
Part II will show the roof demolition and the steps to prepare for the Tesla Solar Roof, including the installation of a underlayment material. We also talk with a technician from Vikta Energy, the preferred Tesla installation partner for this installation.
Part III will talk with the owner of Vikta Energy and go through the design process, discuss the various components of the Tesla Solar Roof and we cover many common questions people have when considering this solar and power backup solution.
Part IV will be the wrap-up and conclusion of the project.

'Photovoltaic' is the word Debbie was looking for. She has a wonderful property. With this technology the property is even better.

What a great new series idea! Will you be able to do comparison/contrast videos with other homeowners and their systems? And a 25 year warranty? Wow! Thanks, Joe.

Exciting project! We’re install Tesla panels this summer. I live in Arizona and the techs that installed our Powerwalls in January told us that Tesla has temporarily stopped installing the Solar Roof in Arizona due to the heat melting pieces of it! Hope they can find a resolution.

Hi Joe, great series your starting. I'm in Houston,Tx and my neighbor has had her Tesla solar roof in service for over a year now. At the time of installation the trucks in front of the house all said Tesla Energy on the trucks. So I believe at the time Tesla was doing the installation.

Great topic to cover. I'll be very interested to see if Tesla proves to be a good & reliable partner to Debbie and her husband as they're not exactly known for being so when it comes to solar projects involving the noncommercial world customer.

This will be an educational video series of great interest to so many people. Thank you, Debbie, for allowing this. Your home renovation looks so nice and well-thought out. Solar singles are much more attractive than boxy panel attachments. Hopefully, there will be few if any severe winters and power outages in Texas during the next 25 years, but you and your family will be well-prepared.

You didt mention the capacity of the system like its 15-20kw of DC output and how many powerwall units as energy storage...

My son put on a Tesla solar roof & a Tesla Power wall, on his AB&B house in Joshua Tress, California, a few years ago. Tesla did the work. He says his saving on electrical costs has been amazing!

This is going to be a awesome series.
Hopefully you will be able to interact with the contractor and the workers.
I am interested to know the total man hours of the Tesla part of the roof and the total square footage of that part of the installation.
Also perhaps you can get the MW total of the roof, and the total storage capacity for this particular installation.
And the estimated time that the house will function without any sunshine on the solar roof.
I am not sure if middle man is accurate. Roofing is a trade.
I don’t know if Tesla should be in the residential 7:48 building trade sector.

The real question here is what does Joe's wife think of him taking on more and more projects... right now it's Giga Texas three times a week, regular visits to the Boring Co. and the occasional Lithium factory visit, now he's added this to his plate.

I'm considering the tesla roof too but more about wind mitigation as much as the energy. Can you find out what is the maximum wind speed they can handle. I've heard 170 but also 190 mph. They did very well in the last hurricane.

She needs to buy a number of extra tiles, store them as spares. As time goes by Tesla may not produce an exact replacement , also down the road even if replacments are made the colour may not match.

Every home and business should install a rain water collection and storage system along with solar panels.
Even in areas where rain is infrequent it is crazy to waste the little rain that does fall and waste it.
We need to stop planting green lawns and switch to local native plantings around homes.
It is crazy to plant lawns and build golf courses in dry desert areas. We waste too much water and electricity.
the future is electric. Wind and solar energy along with electric vehicles are the future. Stop using fossil fuels. There is a climate crisis.

Don’t let the company that poured that concrete wall do your solar install. Crap work!
