    Yeah I grew up climbing down the cliff at strands and the kelp was in front of salt creek. I didn’t even know there was kelp where you’re at but maybe it somehow migrated there. I love Sheephead it my fav fish to eat

    Can I ask you which kayak would be the best for the price. We have never had a kayak. Should we buy tandem or two singles?

    • @OCOutdoorsman
      @OCOutdoorsman  Před 4 lety +1

      I'm a big Hobie fan so I like the Outback, but the Old Town Predator is a great option if you do a lot of ocean fishing. Tandem kayaks are nice but they are super heavy. I'd prefer two singles, that way you'll always have the option to fish separately (if your buddy is unavailable to fish with you on the tandem yak)

      @@OCOutdoorsman Thanks for your reply. Have you ever encountered sharks or any other dangerous species in Redondo Beach Area? I watched some videos and I thought I should ask you before I get a kayak.

    California Sheephead are a very beneficial species, because they eat sea urchins. Urchins feed on kelp and can decimate an entire kelp forest. The sheephead help to keep urchins in balance.

    Did you let the c rig hit the bottom and wait for them to pick it up or did you leave it suspended

    • @OCOutdoorsman
      @OCOutdoorsman  Před 4 lety +1

      I let it drop to the bottom but gave it a couple of cranks up so that it's suspended. This is important with a C-rig so that you can detect the subtle nibbles of the sheephead. If it sits on the bottom, they'll steal your bait without you knowing!

    Any info on the kind of shrimp you used for bait? I'm going to be targeting Sheephead this weekend for the first time ever on my aluminum boat out of Cabrillo beach.

    • @OCOutdoorsman
      @OCOutdoorsman  Před měsícem

      Go to any local Mexican or Korean grocery store; they have the best pricing for shrimp. Just about any shrimp will work as long as it's uncooked

    Is the Carolina rig basically the same effect as the fishfinder rig?

    • @OCOutdoorsman

      Very similar except for the sinker; I believe that the fishfinder rig uses a sliding sleeve with a pyramid sinker
