What is Metagoofil?
Metagoofil is an open-source information gathering tool designed for extracting metadata of public documents (PDF, DOC, XLS, PPT, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX) belonging to a target company. It searches Google to identify and download the documents to a local disk, and then uses the Hachoir and PdfMiner libraries to extract the metadata.
How to install Metagoofil
Metagoofil is pre-installed on Kali Linux, but you can also install it on other Linux distributions using the following steps:
Install the required dependencies:
Python 3
Hachoir
PdfMiner
Clone the Metagoofil repository:
git clone github.com/ops...
Navigate to the Metagoofil directory and install the tool:
cd metagoofil
pip install -r requirements.txt
How to use Metagoofil
To use Metagoofil, simply run the following command:
metagoofil.py -d DOMAIN [-e DELAY] [-f [SAVE_FILE]] [-i URL_TIMEOUT] [-l SEARCH_MAX] [-n DOWNLOAD_FILE_LIMIT] [-o SAVE_DIRECTORY] [-r NUMBER_OF_THREADS] -t FILE_TYPES [-u [USER_AGENT]] [-w]
Options:
-d: Domain to search.
-e: Delay (in seconds) between searches.
-f: Save the HTML links to a file.
-i: URL timeout in seconds.
-l: Maximum number of search results to retrieve.
-n: Maximum number of files to download.
-o: Save directory for downloaded files.
-r: Number of threads to use.
-t: File types to search for.
-u: User agent to use.
-w: Enable word highlighting in the output.
Example:
metagoofil.py -d example.com -t pdf,docx
This will search Google for all PDF and DOCX files hosted on the domain example.com and download them to the current directory.
Metagoofil can be a valuable tool for penetration testers and security researchers, as it can help to identify sensitive information that may be publicly exposed. However, it is important to use the tool responsibly and only target domains that you have permission to test.
