- @opeth are back with a bang! Anyone else missed growls in Opeth's music? Glad to hear those back in this creepy, sinister first single from their new album. There's a lot to unpack here, but so far I'm impressed with this direction!

"Ghost of Perdition" was my favorite song for 18 years, and Opeth was my favorite band for over 20 years until another band came along. I'm seeing Opeth for the 10th time in October.
This was what took Opeth out of my #1 spot as a band and a song (been listening to metal since 1970): Lovebites - "Judgement Day"

I have a feeling that the new album will be a lot more proggy than Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries and will require several listens to get into (similar to In Cauda Venenum), ie. a bit more dense to get into with a lot of chromatics and non-standard scales. From what I've heard from people who got access to a full preview of the album it's more or less 50/50 of songs with and without growls which I'm just fine with and on par with Watershed. I can't wait to get my hands on the album. I do love that Michael brought back growls after 16 years of clean vocals even though I like a lot of the new stuff.
