- The long awaited test drive review of the facelifted polo GTI is finally here .The volkswagen polo gti has no rival in the compact performance hatch segment in South Africa. it used to compete with Ford Fiesta ST but it has since been discontinued in the Mzansi market. The only competition it has is it's bigger brother, the VW Golf 7.5 GTI and the toyota yaris GR but that's not an apples to apples comparison. It also shares the same platform with the Audi A1.

Honestly when I was choosing my GTI’s spec i didn’t consider this red. The kings red really pops. I went with a pearl white and a panoramic sun roof for some reason I have been wanting a white and black roof car 🤨 i currently own a polo 2020 beats so im excited for the power 😎
White is also a great choice because the red GTI inserts and badges pop really well. On my car the red gti badges kind of get buried in the red body paint.
I agree car prices don't really go down. Cars are only cheap when you sell your car to to the dealership 😅

Looks really nice. I’ve currently got a 7.5 GTD Golf but I’ve got a Mk8 Golf GTI on order. Pan roof and kings red was a must for me 👍.
I love the grey colour on the Mk8 Golf GTI but for the Polo kings red is the best 👌
That red looks absolutely stunning in the sunlight. I currently drive a MK 2 Audi TT (red) but have been doing a lot of research recently on the new Polo GTi. I was looking at the white with black roof but having seen this video I think I prefer this red / black roof combination! I was looking at the 18 inch wheels but there doesn't seem to be a lot of tyre on them... and UK roads are not very good. I'm surprised the tyres on my Audi's 18 inch wheels have lasted so long.

It’s hard to argue with the package VW delivered here (for a hot hatch enthusiast looking for a showroom car).
In the past, most folks like me, with with 1 kid wouldn’t have considered the Polo because of interior space (rather the Golf). But the interior packaging of this new one is very good. Add to that the hyper price of the Mk 8, then this car is a winner.
Well said👌👌...when fully specced, this polo is much better than a base model mk8. You'll miss out on the power but you'll still have some fun.

Very true talking about 18”. I bought my car similar to this but in blue in jan. all specs except for 18”. I feel like 17” are very more comfortable on the road than 17”. I feel better seeing someone who made same choice. Great car bro

Have driven the this car with the 18 inch alloys and the 17 inch alloys. I can confirm the 17 inch make for a much smoother ride. Even in normal mode this car is quite nippy. I rarely use it in sports mode as I live in central London. On the right road in sports mode this car is lightening fast. I bought it mainly for its looks. It’s a nice understated hot hatch.

Yazin call me weirdo but I prefer this Polo GTI over Golf 8 GTI... If I want more power I will simply opt for base Golf 8 R instead of Golf 8 GTi, but this Polo GTi is well balanced package

I bought this car in the 8th October 2021, (Deep black, full optional with the 18" wheels too)... Today are almost 6 months that I'm waiting my car, and probably it will arrive in May... This wait is an endless wait... (Italy)
Even here the waiting period is about 6 months if you want to order your car with specific features.

If you put the car on Individual Mode, you can set the drive mode to Eco and engine sound to Sport, it will still make the VrrrrPha sound with Revs between 3 - 4 RPM ; still in Eco Mode.

Yeah man. With Individual Mode, the car is really fun; saves petrol but makes the Vrrrpha sound and some little pops, especially when the engine is hot. Yuuuuu 🙆🏽♂️🔥🔥🔥
You don’t even have to go manual, you know DSG can be weak sometimes and break. I know someone who broke his Polo GTI ‘s DSG with only 20 000 kilometres 😞

@@MuziSambo , mostly driving it in manual and putting it in Sport Mode while in high speeds.
Have you realised that when you change to Sport mode, the DSG kicks down? Doing that at high speeds puts more strain on the gearbox.

Great review man. Love the clips of the exhaust. Gives a good indication of what it sounds like. Your commentary is always fire bro except you may have lost it a bit with the wheels. You gotta remember that the wheels are made to high standards (typically borbet or Ronal make VW wheels) so the 18s aren't gonna be fragile even if they look like it. Those aftermarket cheap replicas people put on their cars are definitely fragile. Not OEM stuff. The Milton Keynes in my view don't suit the car. The Faro's look much better but that's down to personal preference. If you feeling up for it maybe check out some Rotiforms or OZ wheels and use the opportunity to put some proper rubber - i.e. Michelin PS4 minimum :) The car will be next level i can guarantee you. By the way, you can also get Michelin cup 2 connect tyres in the 18s size. That's if you're keen for some track driving. The thing will be on rails.
I have to admit the Milton's indeed look awful, I don’t like them even on the Golf. Even the R-line Bergamos look way better than the milton keynes....but they just give me peace of mind man, they seem tough.
I'll get rid of them later on because honestly they ain't my favorite!
@@MuziSambo LoL. Yeah they look really weird on the golf. I forgot about that. In fact I'm not a huge fan of the wheels that come on the 8. One of my favourites though are the Pretoria wheels that came on the Golf 8 R and Clubsport S. Nevertheless, hope you're enjoying the new ride :)

Hi Muzi, just checking if you still happy with your purchase of the polo GTI face-lift? Just ordered mine and just subscribed to your channel as it's the most "real"
it's really sad that you guys in SA can't buy the better 207hp car with the 7-speed dsg, not for the incremented power but because that gearbox is amazing (way better than the 6-speed one you have)
Easier to change to sports mode with a tap of the gear shifter in a downward motion and you tap it again down to go back to your previous selection instead of selecting the mode button and touching the screen selection.
Tapping the gear shifter only changes the gearbox to sport mode but if you're driving in Eco mode the car remains in Eco because the Eco symbol remains visible in the virtual cockpit, it only changes to sport when you press the button or the screen.

I get that but the golf 8 is following the same trend. It is more expensive now that it was last year even on the second hand market. At the moment a fully specced Polo GTI should be going for R570 000 but some dealerships are already selling it for over R600k. Sooner or later it will be difficult to get the car for under R600k unless you're willing to order a new one and wait 6 months for it.

And the reason it's a second hand, is because it was discontinued in the country and I doubt there is a new model for the ALLTRACK in any dealership. So I want to buy it for business and also buy a 2018-2020 Pre facelift Polo GTI but should I get the polo as a second hand or used as it'll be my weekend car?!

The 2021 model is at least R130k cheaper with less than 15k (kms) on the clock. They do go down quickly but in comparison to other brands they fair up very well in upholding the value. This generally goes to all VWs though

The only reasonable upgrade from a polo gti is to go for something more premium like a Benz or BMW. If you wanna stick with VW an SUV like T-Roc or Tiguan would be ideal. Spending +/-R900k on a golf 8 makes no sense to me.

I just worry that a 118i or a A200 would be difficult to adjust in terms of power, but then again I don't even race my car 😅 but will look at the facelift troc, I believe it will be launched in July this year. I still feel the polo is more of a eye catcher than the troc but maybe the facelift would be better. Let's see how it goes...I have the same polo like yours infact the same colour too lol

R913...In Eco mode the car doesn't chow petrol that much. I always average less than 6L/100km. It only chows in Sport mode, where the consumption can be as high as 15L/100km.

😁The lady disappeared, it turns out she was just a ghost😊...I think any polo GTI you can afford is fine, whether 2016, 2018 or 2022 you will enjoy the car. I'll do a video to adress the issue of optional extras in detail.
