That 1945 photo by Alfred Eisenstaedt of the kiss in Times Square is one of the most beautiful, most iconic photos of the 20th Century. Just imagine the flood of raw human emotions that men and women were experiencing that glorious day on V-J Day. The modern activists/critics who want to remove this piece of history on the grounds that this was “non-consensual” are, I hope and pray, an extremely tiny minority. Honestly, when you put this photo in its proper context of that moment in time, how can you look at it and not feel joy inside?
If a 79 year old photo is making you lose sleep at night, you should probably reconsider every single pathetic decision you've ever made in your empty life
My late father fought in Vietnam and because of the type of blood cancer he contracted due to agent orange, he couldn't be compensated. I know he's wasn't the only one and people are criticizing an old WW II photo? That photo is the least of vets concern.

Attention America! The world is not responsible for your mental health. If something out there triggers you, call your therapist. This is your problem and YOU need to work on it. FYF!
My parents were from this era. My dad was in the Navy and was in WW II. I was adopted by older generation parents. I find nothing offensive about this pic. We must stop looking at this type of thing from today's perspective. This was an innocent act and even though it was two strangers what it symbolized was the end of a very important time in our history. I think the person wanting to have this removed is projecting their own issues. Leave this alone. Yes deal with the sexual harrassment that is prevelant in the armed forces but don't take an innocent historic photo down because you think that it sends the wrong message. We would never have a photo like this now because it wouldn't fit the narrative but back then when most of us saw this and for me it was years after the fact it symbolized something iconic. Don't ruin that because of your own personal issues.
about Greta Friedman: “I felt that he was very strong. He was just holding me tight. I'm not sure about the kiss... it was just somebody celebrating,” Friedman told Redmond. "It wasn't a romantic event. It was just an event of 'thank god the war is over.'” ... "Ms. Friedman did not shy away from the photo or her role in it, her son said. Mr. Friedman said he believed she understood the argument that it was an assault but did not necessarily view it that way." ... "Friedman told the Library of Congress in 2005 that “it wasn’t a romantic event. It was just an event of thank God the war is over kind of thing.” She added in an oral history of the photo: “It wasn’t my choice to be kissed. The guy just came over and kissed or grabbed.” Since she was ok with it, ok. If not, different story.
What nonsense. In addition, if you know anything about the history of photo journalism, many iconic and important "candid" photographs were actually staged (sometimes soon after the original moment had occurred) by the photographer in order to achieve a more aesthetic image. People have lost their minds!
Another reason I can appreciate shows like "The View" and others: I can identify points that I agree with, don't agree with, and hadn't been privy to prior. I hear what Whoop is saying about addressing really dire things that have happened to our female Vets and I align most with what Sara mentioned about how the two people pictured remained friends after the photo was taken. I would defer to the lady being kissed and get her perspective above all us. (I understand she is no longer with us, but if she was still alive, I would get her in on the conversation before taking the photo down.)
She gave multiple interviews. She basically said the kiss wasn’t her choice, but she also didn’t view it as sexual assault. She described it as not being a romantic kiss and more of a kiss of pure joy the war was over. She also appeared at events with him later in life and signed copies of the photo. I know you probably don’t care for the Daily Wire, but they interviewed the granddaughter today. Additionally, the woman and the sailor did not know each other when the photo was taken, but began a years-long friendship following that event.
wow these women finally said something that actually makes sense. and the picture is iconic also we had different sensibilities back then. it's like the veterans administration is doing the bait and switch, it's like they address a non-issue the same like they're doing something to get away from the real issue. Americans need to hold the government accountable. no veteran should have to grovel for health care there shouldn't even be or rather there shouldn't even be a need for organizations like the wounded warrior project, because the government and government contractors like McDonald's Douglas Raytheon and a myriad of other corporations should supply prosthetics and chip in for the medical cost there shouldn't even be medical cost for veterans nothing should ever be itemized on a bill when it comes to their health care that is the least they are owed. they should have the best of the best of the best. they should have counseling they should have medicine medical care physical rehabilitation and a stipend to live off of that you can actually live off of. but how do you justify spending over a billion dollars on a bomber and millions and millions of dollars on smart bombs but you can't take care of a veteran amputee? that is ridiculous when you think about it so all they get is a thank you for your service. That's what you get when you get your legs blown off when you lose an eye you get a thank you and a pat on the back, prostitutes get more than that, and I'm not even being funny. these guys and gals and a lot of situations are actually true heroes to one another and to be ridicued and dogged out by the VA is just unacceptable and cruel. you got to remember that a lot of these young men and women enlisted at 17 and 18 years old right out of high school, and for 3 to 6 years however long they're deployments that's their life that's all they know until they come back out into the real world and if they are injured, this is what they have to look forward to? anyway I usually hate the view, never want to hear anything they have to say they are repungent, they suck. but I actually agree with him this time and thank you the view.
Actually that woman in the picture hated that it become so emblematic of the era and it made her uncomfortable. I agree it’s ridiculous that someone not involved in the pic calls trauma. However let’s not twist reality to suit your narrative.

So she should be grabbed and kissed by whomever?
I have this poster.
I knew it was about the war ending, But it's also a mystery about love.
Notice each person has one arm fully in, And one hand closed around a mystery.
It's about keeping the balance in relationship. It's not just about the end of the war.
I'm glad to learn the two people in the photo stayed friends for years.
Those complaining don't know the history of the two people after the photo and how they were friends in the following years. The VA should Stop thinking about something you really didn't know everything about from the 40's and focus on taking care of veteran's in this era
The hustle brings the money. The experience brings the knowledge. The persistence brings the success.
I’m sure that The View has talked about this before…
That 1945 photo by Alfred Eisenstaedt of the kiss in Times Square is one of the most beautiful, most iconic photos of the 20th Century.
Hey im a big fan
I love Joy. She’s knowledgeable and says what time it is, oh so cute
If a 79 year old photo is making you lose sleep at night, you should probably reconsider every single pathetic decision you've ever made in your empty life
Veterans should be living like royalty, sport stars ....etc! Got it. !!!
Who has time to cry about this? For goodness sake 🙄 The ladies are right on this one
My late father fought in Vietnam and because of the type of blood cancer he contracted due to agent orange, he couldn't be compensated. I know he's wasn't the only one and people are criticizing an old WW II photo? That photo is the least of vets concern.
How would the average person even KNOW these two people didn't know each other?
I've seen this photo a hundred times, and just heard about its history. Big deal.
Its a great photo.
Way bigger thing to worry about.
Much ado about NOTHING. The photo celebrated the end of something very bad. I am glad the panel mostly agreed that the complaints are frivolous
This was an innocent act
and even though it was two strangers what it symbolized was the end of a very important time in our history.
Totally agree.
Amen. Criticizing this photo is tantamount to crying "Wolf" and is disrespectful to actual victims of harassment.
This is the least of my worries.
about Greta Friedman: “I felt that he was very strong.
This country is getting ridiculous by the second
Seriously
I like the Watchmen’s version of that kiss😂😂😂
How silly today's world is, that pic has been around for 79 years already way before most of us were even born..., WTF ???
The article is titled “‘She Never Felt Violated’: Granddaughter Of Nurse Kissed In Iconic WWII Photo Responds To VA’s Woke Memo”
@@Supermanfan99 And if that’s the case, that’s the case. I was a little disappointed that the ladies at the table dismissed it so vehemently, 😕
@@stupid8911 I’m honestly surprised by their response, but I think people are just getting tired of judging past events through an absolute black and white modern lens without ever considering context.
It’s like we can’t acknowledge our forefathers were flawed products of their time that had good ideas and birthed this country. Instead people want them viewed as nothing more than absolute evil for owning slaves. Controlling the narrative of the past is key to power.
@@Supermanfan99 Perhaps you and I can agree to disagree about the original framing of U.S. history and how it was taught to us in school, but I can appreciate the civil discussion.

Let's call the objection to this iconic Times Square pic what it is: *toxic woke.*

It stupid to remove this photo. Leave it be. Leave it hanging up.
The View panel took a common sense pill with their OJ this morning!!
Really surprised they all agreed. Thought some might think the picture depicted sexual assault.
Well the woman in the picture didn’t view it as sexual assault so I think we should take her word.
lol you mean a kiss in a time where most women wanted to marry a man and live happily ever after in their 50’s steppford bride type way. It’s not consensual but it probably led to some spicy letters written between the two.
Do they not understand that their views have caused this to be a problem? They love to shout the me too movement but let this picture pass? Hypocrites.

@@kant.68 It is both irrelevant and disingenuous to imply or project judgement on events in a photo taken in 1945 at a celebration of the preservation of our freedom with our victory in WW2, in which the very existence of our nation was severely challenged and our very survival had been subject to serious doubt over four years.
Wait a minute the more important question is they still have that photo up dude I haven’t seen that photo in like 20 years! the VA still has that up?
