- Target has revolutionized the entire shopping experience, from the width of the aisles and the weight of the shopping carts to the smell of Starbucks coffee and placement of dollar bins. The tactics are paying off. Despite the pandemic, profits rose more than 80% year over year. Here's how Target uses dollar bins and online sales to keep customers hooked.

Why You Spend So Much Money At Target
When i go to Target, time flies by. When i go to Walmart, i feel like I'm there for hours and it exhausts me.
agreed
Yeah, but you shouldn't be attaching emotional value to shopping.
For me it's the other way around lol
Agree... feels like a full price retail flea market
@@nihilisticbarbie emotional value to time spent is what I think her point is aiming at...
The main reason most people go to target is because they are fairly clean, organized, the employees are nice. And the products are of decent quality. Waaaaaaaaay better than walmart.
While the organization and layout is awesome, the product quality is largely the same as Walmart. It’s the perceived value that makes the difference. The hanes tshirt at target is the same quality as Walmart - you just don’t have to step over items thrown around or half torn open packaging. They do have their own private label brands and special products, but don’t assume they’re any better than what would be the Walmart alternative - usually made in the same fashion, similar factories, etc.
Amen
I'm sure the products at walmart are almost exactly the same at Target
Oh yeah, you're absolutely right. For me, the Target at which I shop is next door to a Publix. Those two together is Walmart. Target is so quiet, I love it.
I agree. The quality is better! Body care, make up, cookware, produce, even the dollar bins in the front of the store.
Let’s not forget the sales they run constantly!! I love the “spend this much and get a $10 gift card” incentive.
You go to Wal-Mart for the pricing and variety, you go to Target for the atmosphere, cleanliness and unique products.
I feel like Walmart needs a large redesign soon
Yesss
Yes! Like stroop waffle 👍
Plus it feels like its less crowded than walmart :P
i am with you grrrril!
Something tells me this is just a 15 minute ad to throw shade at Walmart
or to tell Amazon they coming for them
Yup cause all the celebrities they featured was at some sort of target sponsored red carpet.
There's no need to. Walmart throws its own shade.
I’m not sure if I’m alone on this, but i love target because their app tells me if something i need is in stock at the stores around me and also tell me the exact isle the items are on. I love being able to get something fast when i don’t have a lot of time.
That too!
And their app is laid out beautifully.
Walmart does the same thing with their app, but for some reason I enjoy the Target shopping experience more. The shopping carts, trendy designs, and relatively inexpensive products are what lures me in. I love Target!
Yes that’s true
Walmart has a similar app, but like its store, it feels clunky. Target (app & store) on the other hand feels very fresh and clean. I also feel the same way about TJ Maxx and Bed, Bath, & Beyond. There's a certain aesthetic they have that is very easy on the eyes & feels very "comfy & pretty" -- the kind of aesthetic that existed long before Instagram came unto the scene.
Their app is lightyears ahead of most retailer’s and theyre always working to improve it. Last year you had to covert Shipt fees with a credit card but before the pandemic it was switched so the delivery charges (including tips) will use Target cards as well. Just one huuuuge change that has made the app more user friendly. The store finder tho? That is some next level stuff other stores are still blundering through.
I find Target is a bit more expensive than Wal Mart but it is so much more organized that I don’t mind paying the premium.
They price-match. 🥰
Get a RedCard, that 5% will balance out
As observed lately, interest in making a fortune from cryptocurrency keeps growing but a lot of people seem to delve in without a properly laid out strategy which is very important irrespective of your hodling or trading route. What is paramount to avoid losses is trying out several strategies and sticking to that which works for as long as it works and I came to this resolution when I stumbled upon some information about a crypto expert named Mr, mason and once I contacted him, he helped me develop a good technique and with his daily support using his trade strategies and tutorials, I have been doing pretty well as a trader from the market, making a minimum of 5 btc in profit for the last 3 months I have been using his system. A signal is extremely accurate and I intend sticking to his aid for as long as possible. He can be reached at Whatspp : *+17814864690* for all crypto-related inquiries.
between the red card and the sales/gift card deals target has, you definitely make out better at target
They price match . They take coupon , has store coupons and gift card when u buy multiple item and 5% redcard ,10% for year anniversary with red card
I use to work at target and one thing i'm surprise yall didnt mention was their choice to use the word "guests" instead of "customers". They taught us that they did that bc it was more inviting and made customers feel like family visiting vs shoppers.
I’m a current employee and when I was training I used “customer” and they made sure to correct me over the walkie 😂
Lile Khomasuridze omg that happened to me!
@@lilekhomasuridze9149 lmao, festival foods?
Kylie Kay target
I think a lot of retailers have adapted to that language - I worked at Century 21 in 2014 and even then we only called customers "guests"
I won’t lie, the vibe at target is unbeatable but the items are so overpriced for no reason
Agreed. I know someone who grocery shops at a regular target and I'm like, so you're paying extra for no reason, got it
Lol
It's been proven they're only marginally more expensive than Walmart
they are cheaper than Walmart if you know how to shop.
You what things to be free?
back then when I worked at Target I really thought the slogan "expect more, pay less" does apply to us the employees
i liked working at target but mine was a very toxic environment because of our management
I thought that was the Payless shoe store slogan
Will say I love going to target for clothing and home decor items. You will never catch me buying my groceries there. WAY too expensive for food!!
Groceries are over prices, and they don’t list unit price. At least not here in Florida.
Look for coupons. I just saved 25% off all my fruits and veggies and several other deals. Your right though on the regular. Go the right week and your grocery bill will go from $100 to $70.
Yeah I only buy certain grocery items there
I will get groceries that are on sale, or have special offered through their app.
Lies again? Investment Shoplifting
Target is exact opposite of dull boring Walmart.
Stores are so well lit with its well organized interior and quality items
Its the same stuff, priced higher.. pay attention
@@dertythegrower not true
Price is actually the most important aspect, Walmart wins.
Walmart always has my heart like I don’t care about the way that the store looks. I am getting the same stuff as target but for a cheaper price
Ppl dress better at Target too. Sometimes I look at ppl in Walmart w pajamas like what are you doing?
Why do they have that random B roll of some guy hanging from a tree and dancing at 0:18 ?
Good question
They sell that ugly nasa shirt there in every single size.
yeah he is wearing clothes from target
Lol 😂
I think it's a mini sliver from one of their commercials. But it does seem very random.
haha target entered canada, priced everything higher than everyone else, and left the market a year later
yeah higher prices and not enough variety compared to the usa. usa functions on indentured servitude which is borderline illegal in canada.
Canadians and Europeans are generally smarter. The word "budget" is not in a lot of American's dictionary.
I live in the states and I have a lot of people that call me all the time and ask how can I save money, but they never change or cut back on any bills ever.
@@asadb1990 what do you mean? Target pays really high
@@gabrielh9595 well overall canada min wage vs cost of living is better than the USA. but overall the work environment in usa is so much more toxic compared to canada. managers in usa actively micromanage employees, stand behind shoulder, time breaks or even skip them at times, monitor washroom breaks, etc. in canada none of that is present except in Toronto.
That was a really good year though, I went so often they had better quality and I didn't mind paying more than Walmart. They had better stuff. I miss target
Nobody goes to walmart looks at the lights and says “i think im in a horror film” Lauren and Carol are trippin
I mean... I disassociate whenever I'm in a walmart, so the horror movie comparison resonates. I still shop there sometimes, but it's an unpleasant experience.
@@rosieweaves99 I’m sure that’s true. But some ppl who have no business going there, still insist on going there and spending money on things they dont need, or things they could get of same quality for way cheaper at walmart. Some people need to get off their high horse.
Yeah but now that they mention it It doesn’t feel as nice as targets overall esthetic
😂😂😂
The French accent given to the name is b/c people think of it as a bougie slightly more expensive Walmart.
Yes! People also want to pretend they are something special.
No French person can take you seriously if you pronounce it that way. Stop butchering our language because it's so cringe to us, not bougie. Makes for a good laugh though 😂
@@melissaCgreenwood Well, it makes most feel special 🤷🏾♀️. Sadly I only pronounce it that way to make fun of the store. But putting that accent on it is fun to do.
Its actually a gag from a 90s/2000s movie but Im not sure it carried over from that. Movies stick in very distinct ways so I’d be surprised if it didnt start there.
I really like shopping at Target but people that turn their nose up at walmart can be annoying like those 2 ladies
Cyn I totally agree. Like come on terrible fluorescent lighting tf 💀
That was a bit much it’s kinda like they’re to good to shop at Walmart. A lot of people look down on Walmart like it’s only for the poor
What's not to love?! Target is so wonderful!
Im here just because of you lol
Price sucks ok
Most of their stuff is overpriced.
Oh my gosh!!!
I agree, over priced items throughout the store
They used to do the Starbucks coffee smell thing with the popcorn at their old cafes. Omg I just realized
The Target I work at right now has both the popcorn and Starbucks. Both are right behind the check lanes, and it's always busy. Smells amazing.
the store i work at still has a cafe and opening is the best because of the fresh brewed coffee and fresh popped popcorn smells
I miss the popcorn smell at target and buying a bag eating and shopping it was like a shopping fair
Target is pure entertainment. especially during a pandemic. you go to get cheese, and you spend half an hour in the toy department. i love cat and jack!!! i feel safe in target, it's big, the aisles are wide, its well lit, and i go when its not crowded. they get my vote every single time. i know so many people that buy all their clothes at target.
Yeah I could literally just walk around target just because lol I love it
Went in one this morning for envelopes and conditioner. $140 later, I said I need to stay out of target.
I LOVE Target. As a native Minnesotan it feels like blasphemy to walk into Walmart. It takes so long to find anything in Walmart and forget finding an employee to help you. I don’t care how Target manipulates me, I will continue to be a loyal Target only shopper for life!
all the celebrities they featured was at some sort of target sponsored red carpet.
they really had the opportunity to say " how target targets you" and blew it
Underrated!
I remember feeling rich when my family was able to switch from Kmart and walmart shopping to Target
less ghetto walmart
the 15 minute detour to say this
Lmaooooo
facts!!!
I also go here to avoid people I see at Walmart.
100% 😂
So basically target is targeted middle class women. Makes since
*sense
Honestly, what helps me with not overspending there is making a list of necessities and sticking to it. Also, you can have these items delivered to you free of charge.
I love Target. I invariably get Target gift cards for my birthdays, and I get happy as soon as I enter the store. It's no small factor that red is my favorite color (especially for clothing and fashion accessories and my kitchen decor), and that color is everywhere and just perks me right up for shopping. I love the new designs for picnicware each summer, the autumn linens, the adorable Easter outfits for little children, the winter holiday themed throw pillows/socks/serving trays. I love the $1 bins and the $9 knit tops that I can pick up in several colors because I know which size will fit (though I wish they'd stayed with Merona; it took me a while to adjust to New Day or whatever it's called). Hooked, indeed!
I loved going to Target at Herald Square during the time I was living in NY. They know how to make a nice environment for shoppers, while offering lower prices than most shops. Miss u Target! ❤😂
Target is not for the average person. Too pricey. Yes well lit but that doesn’t help your average family who has a budget for groceries and probably diapers, etc.
Target isnt that expe6. You can budget it and manage what you get there.
I don’t think it’s that expensive It is more expensive than Walmart tho but I feel like the quality is much better and the shopping experience
I always save money using the Target app and card
The #1 place I shop for most of my sons thing is Target bc they offer the best price and deals/discounts/promo. Prices are so low I’m able to get diapers, clothes and toys for $100/ month. Great deals on formula/car seats/ nursery etc!
And I love me a well lit and bright room.
for some reason whenever I went to walmart to get some makeup products, 90% of them were open, spilled, etc. Target rarely has that issue :T and I do agree that Target is usually cleaner, more welcoming, less cluttered, and such. so naturally... I stopped shopping at Walmart but often go to Target while knowing that walmart is cheaper.
I spend very low at Target... Costco is dangerous for consumer's wallet. Go in for some prime ribs, walk out with $400 of goods I'll never use and don't return.
@@bhmmnt Did you read my comment? I go to Costco for one item. Sometimes I go there just to take a walk... It never works out that way
@@brokeduece1691 That's intentional, it's a good marketing strategy. They obviously make you go to the back of the store for meat, so you can be tempted to buy other items along the way.
broke duece Is that why you’re broke, Broke Duece? 😬
I love me some Target, but Walmart has great stuff too esp, their prices. They have been coming up over the past few years!
Forreals. Walmart usually gets a bad rep but they got some really good products. And the prices are half the price.
It’s about the feeling....Walmart is not a place i wanna go. The workers at Walmart are just rude and unhelpful. I look forward to going to target. So bright. So clean. So organized.
Walmart clothes are better than target
@@misssu5311 no way. I love Targets Cat & Jack brand. Not to mention they also have the best designer collabs!
Especially their fashion
I've noticed in videos of hoarders under 60, they tend to have a lot of target bags full of stuff, or 'new' items all over that have target clearance stickers on them. I only go to target because it's less than a quarter mile from my house, and I don't linger in the store so I don't tend to buy things I don't need.
I don’t think I pay less.. there are times when an item is priced higher than Walmart. Also keep an eye out for items that are priced lower on the app than in store.
They price match
Just having someone clean the shopping cart for me before I get there makes the shopping experience so much better knowing that their employees are getting paid extra for the risk make me want to support the store, being able to pay with the app no having to touch anything makes it feel kinda luxurious and lastly being able to look up on their up whatever you need and tell you exactly where it’s at in the store definitely make me buy more
I never thought I’d say this, but I have become a target shopper. Yesterday I went in for four things specifically, I came out with 12. And they’re all things I really wanted or needed, they were on a list somewhere in my home. They weren’t inexpensive, but the materials were value. I understand their model.
I know it sounds crazy but I legit go to target as a method for self care. I won’t even buy anything but doing at least one lap around target makes me feel a lot better lol.
I love Walmart and target !! Who’s with me! Walmart is a great store too! Target doesn’t have a great sporting goods section...
This hit the nails on the head. I couldn't figure out why I enjoyed going to Target so much more than Walmart, and now I know. Thanks for sharing the secrets.
once you work there, you’ll try to get out the *SECOND* you clock out tho lmaoo
I think they spray something in their air that just makes you shop more 😂 Their Missoni collab was my personal favorite to date! I still have the duvet from that collab and it’s in excellent shape despite being used every day & being washed so often. I love that thing.
I've never been to the US and walmart and target are on my sightseeing list. From my point of view all the memes, stories and strategies make it seem like such a experience.
I just wanna go and walk around in there and look at all the different products and procedures.
Edit: tried to correct some spelling mistakes :)
Same. I do have a Walmart here but it's like miles away from me and we don't have a Target. Though I am not planning on going to the US, if I had a chance, I'll go there ASAP lmao
Their fruits and veggies are always sooo fresh , and also all of their aisles are so full of cool stuff
Omg! It’s Kim from the WADS! 🥳 Those target hauls paid off! 😂
I screamed "Hey it's Kim" lol
Hey look Ma I made it!! hahaa Love it so much!
Target is simpler cleaner than Walmart. And so are the customers.
The dislike are all the loyal walmart shoppers. 🤣🤣🤣
Not all of us who don't like Target are Walmart people. I like bent and dent stores and yardsaling 🤣🙈
When I go to Target it’s a treat to me. I also specifically bring a certain amount of cash only in my pocket so that I can enjoy myself but not go over what I’m comfortable spending. Win win!
It really is an experience I’m always so relaxed and so happy while in there That shopper experience is truly a real thing
That’s smart
It’s just sad when you watch this video & own a pair of sandals they’re showing.... 😭🥴
That happened to me with the shorts! lol
Experience, products and service is what always brings me back...
I love when the Dr said the lowercase lettering is less aggressive and feminine. Call it a social construct or not, that’s the reality.
Exactly, feminine and masculine energies exist.
Some stores just have the bullseye on the front. At least the one in my town.
I didn’t even realize that stuff like that made such a difference I can’t wait to start my marketing classes in uni
@@candylove49 Only insomuch that humans decided what was masculine and feminine, and those things have differed throughout time and by location.
I remember when my target was just the smell of Popcorn and pizza. Now, it’s just the smell of coffee. Honestly, I like it that way.
Lol, they got this down to a science.
I do still shop at Walmart but Target is a much more pleasurable experience.
Target has the perfect lighting. Very warm and inviting.
Target is more expensive than Walmart from my experience
Yes it is. I rarely go to Target. Occasionally I go to get the few items I can’t find elsewhere.
Yeah it is I saw a white pillow for $50 in target and then right after we went to Walmart and I found the exact same pillow for $10
Target IS more expensive than Walmart. Anyone who says differently is just wrong. LOL
I thought I was the only one obsessed with Target! 😁 Everything they said about it is true, and the reason why I love it, except the clothing brands. I don't buy my clothes at Target, it's too basic for me. Except for the kids clothes, I do love buying them there for my son, Cat & Jack is a great kids clothing brand! I really Iove the online pick up and order delivery, and layout of the store. Target is a very convenient, accessible, and seamless experience!
Never shopped at Target before but now that I have a little one I'm hooked. Best place for baby stuff and washing detergent. They give you gift cards for shopping there. For example they have buy 2 cans of baby formula and you get a $10 gift card. If you buy $100 worth of pampers you get a $20 gift card....list goes on. I tell all the moms to check it out.
But, here's the thing. Most of the time, it's still cheaper to buy the stuff at Walmart, even when you factor in the cost of the gift card. That's certainly the case with the Tide/Bounce deals they run every three weeks or so.
you can price match !!!!! walmart doesnt price match target does win win
I haven’t visit a store for many years - I hate them. Today, I went to get a diffuser for my office and I was impressed about the beautiful items I saw at Target 🎯
I realized that when I walk around target I see the "possibilities" ~ this candle would go on my coffee table in my apartment, this shirt will be the one I wear on my next date night, but when I go to Walmart I feel cramped and like everything is rushed. Target sells possibilities and by the time you leave you have more stuff ~ the dollar bin section makes you feel like this tiny object if your "treat yo self object"
Don’t bother the employees if you don’t need to they already have a lot to do especially those with the online orders be kind
Half the time the employees dont know anything. But half the time they do so hey. Luck of the draw
Bold of you to assume everyone is a Karen
Haven’t been to target since May 2020 and I’m still going strong 😂
I have gone to mine (30miles away) about 6 times in the last 6yrs. And the last time I actually only got one thing "baby wipes". I do shop online @target though.
I love target for everything but their clothing. The quality is no better than Walmart. Those clothes do not make it past a year in my experience.
I like it for comfort house clothes but work? No Also I hate their shoes So uncomfortable
They used to make quality clothes. I have clothes from target bought 10 years ago that's still holding up, but now I don't even bother browsing in the clothing section.
The shoes are pretty bad. Cute but not going to make it past the season.
I used to love Target purses, but the strap or zipper would break within 6 months to a year. I stopped buying them.
Glad I found this channel! Your videos are so good!
How much did target pay CNBC for this promo?
So paid, even looks fake
looks the same as the one they did on trader joe and costco. I dont think its paid
Stop thinking that everything is an ad. It's not.
Y'all are paranoid and annoying af to the point that you think everything is an ad. lmao
CNBC wants click/views. Target, Costco, Trader Joe’s brings that in. Additionally, they tend to be more affluent people as well, really who all three and CNBC are chasing.
It is a very pleasant store to shop at.
I have even seen some Walmarts copy exactly the layout of a Target store.
I used to love Target, would make a weekly trip at least but then noticed the prices going up way more than competition. At least in nyc-metro area/long island. I never go anymore.
I love target I couldn’t live without it 😂 😂. I spend over $100 at target
I usually shop thrift, but went to Target yesterday just to look. Boy, the prices knocked me over. Soft goods and clothes compared to Homegoods and TJMaxx were at least 30% higher, and cheaper quality. I don’t think I’ll bother again. And many shelves were under stocked.
When my best friend and I have nothing to do we go to target😂
Wow! Great info well communicated
I love target ♥️ we can be in there for EVER!!!!
I like that they sell a lot of black owned brands... super dope. I frequent Walmart more only because it's cheaper.
Wow I love this analysis!!
Target for me is a luxury store where you
Go to spend that little
Extra money you have around. I love the feeling you get walking into it and the smell of Starbucks just makes you feel
Welcome
Back in the early 2k's, I spent so much money on Target. Now, I rarely go. Especially since the quarantine because they have no toilet paper, cleaning soaps of any kind, paper towel, or disinfectant wipes. That's all I really get from there.
I looooove me some Tarjaaaay! Go in to get 2 items and walkout with15 additional things. But it’s such an awesome experience shopping there!
I love target. But as a previous employee, I dislike the hour/pay balance it gives its employees. Especially for it’s inbound team.
This video makes me want to go to Target now. I used to work at a target
I don’t go to Target as much, unless I need a certain home thing. The price on groceries is so expensive there. I just shop at the local Vons or on base. I will typically choose Target over Walmart though, because of the atmosphere. The Walmart where I live is chaotic and people there are pretty rude. It’s always packed (even during the pandemic) and I tend to find of the products not the best quality. If I do shop at Walmart, it’s solely online.
Target is my absolute favorite store hands down.
Cheap & chic is the perfect way to sum up target gotta remember that the next time my husband says we can get that at from Walmart 😂
What's with the random dude hanging from a tree and dancing? 0:18
he is wearing clothes from target
it does depend on your area, but the RedCard discount will make a lot of items cheaper than Walmart in my experience. I haven’t been in a Walmart in years.
I like the health options, the feel of the store and quality of the products. It’s not always expensive. I can find things in target that are cheap but is expensive in other places. I can get my baby’s snacks for $5 but a grocery store cost was was about $7. Also we’re I live it’s only competition is Kmart and Walmart is to far away. I can’t stand going in Walmart. It’s hot. The line is long. To many people. I can’t read who the price tag belongs to. Feel like I walked in a wear house. But to be honest we would pick one or the other depending on the price.
Why I love Target. 1st Maintain clean and neat manner of shop and 2nd Good customer services
Target yeah, I usually stop by target on trips, to go to the bathroom of course
Canada loves Target. We expected the store we went to on vacation. Target tried too hard to be Canadian and sold so many Canadian brands we could go to Walmart for. Also' they never had a grand opening but a soft opening with no hoopla. Hello we wanted balloons marching band. A' Target is here' atmosphere we never got. But the biggest problem was they hadn't figured out their supply chain properly and shelves were under stocked for months until it was too late and they announced the closure prematurely. My local store also never figured out the ordering right. The whole bottom floor was Halloween stock so a huge chunk of it ended at 90%.
I wish Target is still here in Canada 🥺 I miss it.
This feels like an ad
This channel is essentially an advertisement for capitalism as a whole.

I love Meijer! It is between target and walmart in my opinion. It is not as expensive as target but costs a little more than walmart. Although their coupons app can help with that. Meijer is clean, has way better produce and a large selection.
I miss working at Target as a CSR for sales and there credit and debit cards. One stop shop for all and values their customers. ❤️😍🥰
Are they good to work for?
@@SarahLizDoan Yes, the company has a lot to offer great incentives and lots of promotions. For customers, refund and exchange are so much easy to request as well as the late payment fees to be waived as long as it meets the requirements.
I just checked out from the Target app while watching this video. I don't have a problem.
I can go into Target, get exactly what I need and walk out. Sincerely. I’d say 9 out of 10 times I do that. Yes, sometimes I’ll buy an extra ONE or two things, literally, but that’s it. And I use coupons and Circle Club perks.
I will say that they their online pick up thing is one of the absolute best out there. Literally the first one that’s gone right for me. Ever. Over Walmart and regular grocery stores. So I’ll definitely keep doing that. It was so easy and such a relief that my order was completely correct. Super impressive!
But I can ALWAYS walk in and out of Target and NOT buy extra. I must be the only woman in America who can do that. (I can’t do that in TJ Maxx, though, admittedly).
That said, it is fun to just browse. Just being able to browse and not buy in
Tar-jay is very cool! Walmart isn’t always cheaper, by the way. And Target is definitely a more sophisticated experience.
Target is cool and has good quality stuff! But I don’t need to buy and buy and buy while in there, maybe I’m missing the Target Overspend gene. Lol! Thank God!
I love going to target with warlmart only when target doesnt have it and thats kind of rare. Though i wish we had a super target where we lived. ^^ Its cause of target i stopped shopping on amazon finding many of the products i ordered were at target at cheaper price or products that come close to what i ordered. Some people say walmart is cheaper but to me it depends. I agree some products at walmart are cheaper but some target products be cheaper than walmart and sometimes they are even.
I feel TARGETed I JUST was on their website looking for baking items 🤣
so proud to be from Minnesota where target started lol
