Thanks for the video, just fixed my daughter's 500, she'd dislodged the vents using one of those rubbish phone holders.

Thank you! Bought my 500 like this and came across this video. Decided to give it a try and was done in less then 20 minutes!

My wife’s 500 center right vent was dislodged, couldn’t move it left/ right. Up/ down worked fine. Looked at your video and it looked far too complicated so I just used the car key, directed the vent “down”, left and put the key on the flaps and pushed them towards each other. Clicked to place in a few tries. Under two minutes of work

Hello, I've not had those other vents out, but I'd be surprised if they were much different. If and when you have a look at yours, please be sure to share your findings with us all. Good luck.

In the video, the radio’s removal seems EASY. In real life it seems IMPOSSIBLE, even using the genuine ‘U’ tools. There is absolutely NO WAY the radio come off as the video shows

Hello, I'm sorry to hear you are having troubles getting the radio out.
This is not the only video in which I depict the radio coming out, there is another video relating to the poor radio reception and replacing the Aerial.
It is true that it can be a bit fiddly and true when editing the videos some footage may be excluded as no one wants to see long tedious shots of say a bolt being undone or a screw being tightened. Sometimes some things require a bit of perseverance and again doesn't make for agreeable viewing.
That said, I would not say that the radio removal is impossible. As clearly it is not. There are no other tools that can be used to remove it either. You have to ensure that the keys are fully inserted so that they engage with the release mechanism as I show later in this video.
There is also the possibility that either A) your keys are in some way the problem or B) the release mechanism has been damaged at some point in the past.
I wish you the best of luck.

I tried, radio comes of easily, but the vents are completely stuck. Nothing is moving. If I apply even more pressure I’m sure I’ll break something. It seems like the clips at the top are keeping it locked. There’s no space where I can put a flat screwdriver at the top either. Do you have any tips?

Hello squirrel. First of all I'm assuming you've removed the two screws from the bottom left and right of the vent unit? I found that the plastic tabs through which these screws pass were trapped by the metal radio frame. Perhaps you can free these and this will release the pressure from the top of the vent unit and dash surround.
Also, once the vent unit is removed on my video you can see the two small metal tabs at the top which act like barbs. This should help you location wise to know where to slide any pry tools or even credit cards to try to manipulate and free them.
      Good luck.

Do you need to remove the radio? Or could I just go straight for the air vents?

    • @fixitfallows
      @fixitfallows  Před 2 lety

The radio has to come forward at the very least as it conceals the screws that secure the air vents in place.

    • @takiman1

The left/ right movement can be fixed with everything in place. Just use the car key (or a flat screwdriver) to manipulate it in place.
