This sci-fi movie follows Antonio Banderas and an android designed to bring support to society's plight, man and robot reveal what it means to co-exist in a culture defined by human nature.
Wait what I'm not understanding your argument. Both movies are about a society where robots are the big innovation. The robots have rules that keep them in check but they eventually gain emotions and feelings of their own and either revolt or are cast out. The main guy doesn't trust them at first but eventually comes to accept them and most likely helps them. Please explain to me how the two movies don't sound similar
Look up Isaac Asimov. And then look up related results. Ya, it isn't new stuff, but it is a style of thinking that will keep cycling through. Just like any genre.
To the people who think this looks too much like older SF films: So what? The film looks beautiful, well acted and just simply fantastic. The compilation of footage for the trailer was astonishing, and the direction from Gabe Ibanez looks like a mix of Neil Blomkamp and Tony Scott. I think this will be a damn good SF film.
I can't believe a fun, refreshing sci-fi film is coming out and everyone is just shitting on it. This looks incredible, especially with a 15 million dollar budget. Support independent film making. Also, props to the filmmakers for getting Melanie Griffith. She must be nostalgic over Cherry 2000.
Actually, from what I gather, it seems opposite from I, Robot. The humans created the robots using the three basic laws of robo-ethnics. But somehow, the robots are actually evolving from their one dimensioned programming to the complex and self-aware nature similar to that of a human. And that includes a desire to maintain online and functional, or 'live' in their case. The humans, obviously scared of these independent machines and the damage they might cause, try to destroy them as quickly as possible. The robots have no choice but to flee in order to survive. And that's where the conflict stems.
Parallax77 Best description of the point of this movie - once you've given life to something, in any form or shape, the one that values it will protect it at all costs.
This movie was very good in the sense it was created to be something special among our current movie meta and a well spoken performance spread throughout the movies characters helped it preform well, in my eyes. I feel Antonio edited this trailer.....
The three laws are not outdated.. cliché perhaps but not outdated. the three laws will probably be the basic programing we give to our first automated machines/androids if we ever invent them...this is a different take on it at least, the humans are the bad guys here, and this is the story about the robots evolution. I see iRobot but I also see human drama and societal retrospection.
Just finished watching this. Excellent movie! Human fear of artificial intelligence is a very common theme in recent Sci-Fi movies. The Machine (2014) and Ex_Machina (2015) have the same theme, but the storylines are different in each. I would not compare this to I Robot (other than thematically) because that was more of an action movie, whereas this is more cerebral. It's the difference between Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek.
Please tell me I'm not the only one to notice the humor that Melanie Griffith played the tracker / hunter with driving skills, hired to find a sexbot, in Cherry 2000 (1987) now plays the scientist who works on robots and whose voice is used for Cleo the sexbot in this movie. A fun full circle for anyone who remembers that old comedy. Glad to see Melanie still working. My wife and I enjoyed this movie.
it is streaming on netflix and amazon prime instant video, watch it for yourself and judge it then. I like it a lot, make you think about what human will do to be immortal.
This movie was interesting. No what I was hoping for, but still good! I was hoping the units would rebel more, and by that what I mean is to stand up for themselves, fight back. But it did tugg on the heart strings a bit. I was hoping for a little more action from the units though. I give this movie 5.5/10
This movie looks pretty interesting; it seems like we'll see more things from the robots point of view instead of just the biased person. So i would say that's a slightly different angle in comparison to Irobot, which by the way was based off a series of short stories.
this movie will be awesome, I see the scenes and I really think divertire seeing it. because it looks like''animatrix'' The Second Renaissance Part One, and Part Two second renaissance.
Y'all I, Robot was a short story in a series written by Issac Asimov, the father of Science Fiction. So yes, the movie with Will Smith and this movie share the same story. From this trailer, I am guessing this movie will be far superior and much more in line with what Asimov wrote. Go to a second hand book store and pick it up!
I love how people get all up in arms about movies that are like other movies and then hate them outright for it. so stupid. i get its a similar idea, a robot that thinks for itself. yes, but the entire more and story and ideas that they give might be totally different. i for one hope this movie is good because i love stories like this.
This looks so much better than irobot!
just use a EMP
It looks good but let's be honest it is very similar to I am robot. But who knows maybe it's a prequel
Yes because all the movies with guns are the same right ?
Karen Araragi um.... what? This movie is about a world with robots serving humans and then they get smart, just like IRobot.
There movies about that before IRobot.
Mabey so but I think it's safe to say IRobot with Will Smith was the most recent big hit

I ROBOT 2: Will Smith Speaks Spanish
I don't know, Will he? (Troll in the dungeon)
I wasn't expecting much out of this trailer, but this actually looks really good.
So... I Robot?
I Robot
guaterican17
Shoot. Mixing two movies together :P
idk it looks a little different like in i robot they were killing for no reason this on it looks like there trying to be equal kinda

MJRookieForge The problem is that this film doesn't seem to be doing anything new but touching on old ideas.
Oww yeah! another robot movie! love it!
This concept never gets old!
This actually looks very interesting. Hopefully turns out good...and continue to support the theory that Robots will inevitably take over the world.
and make us their sex slaves ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º)

I haven't been excited for a film in a while, this looks epic.
Antonio's movies are great.
Gonna watch this the day it comes out.
I gotta feeling that this is gonna be one heck of a movie!
Enfin de la science fiction de qualité !!!
Wow! This looks really good!!!

I dont care if it looks like other movies or has the same concept, im really interested in watching this.
Im gonna watch this even if the concept is similar to I Robot. That shouldn't take away from the entertainment.

Update to my comment. I watched the movie and was not disappointed. Definitely is not an action oriented movie though.

Yes finally some new robots movies.
Looks Great! Banderas!
THIS LOOKS AMAZING!
This reminds me of The Animatrix (Matrix prequel). If you haven't seen it, you need to. It's better than the matrix itself.
PiratePiggy shame on you
Looks promising. I'm looking forward to it.
ooohhhhhh, I like this. I want to see more of it.
woot, always love a new cyberpunk movie!!
Can we get a man/machine co-existence movie that doesn't rely on the awfully outdated "three laws of robotics" for it's plot?
Lol no actually intelligent ideas in a action film you cray cray
If they made a Medabots movie that would be it.

Elysium does robots well. Purely tools. No more, no less.
It worked well for Bicentennial Man w/ the late Robin Williams.
This looks awesome!
Amazing
This looks great!
Wow, this actually looks good.
This looks really cool!!
Interesting, worth a look!
Looks AMAZING
Looks good definitely give it a watch

Looks like a twist on Irobot. Looks good. I love that kind of dystopian sci-fi. Like elysium.
I really want to see this movie! Wish there was another trailer so I can learn more about it!
This will be way better then say a I, Robot or Elysium. SO good job.
My kind of movie. Looks good.

This looks great!
By the way Banderas was hysterically funny in Expendables 3...
i think it looks awesome. kinda reminds me of i robot, but i think it will be good. Futuristic, action, with A.I. and robots i'm excited.
looks good....
Looks interesting :)
very cool
Looked awesome...Also somewhat creepy.
Dat robot hit me hard with that quote. "I am just a machine. That is like saying you are just an ape."
Looks good
"Just a machine? thats like saying ur just an ape"......BEST LINE EVER!!
The idea of machines having a conscience has been going far longer than iRobot...
really good movie...(y)
I wish they had a release date for this.
Looks interesting
Interesting
Looks pretty good

I actually like this idea. Robots evolving to become people and attempting to form a society
I just spotted this on Netflix right now. I thought it was coming to theaters. Hmmm I'ma check it out.

I like it
01:35 is another way of saying "come with me if you want to live". Glad to see Dermot Mulroney on screen again ;)
Lol just like in the Casper movie :D
Nadeem Ansari LOL!!!!!
Props to them for not using CGI and using animatronics!
Interesting.....
If this was a sequel to I, Robot, that'd be cool. But either way I'll watch it, on DVD though.
so many of these robot take over films.
It's funny how we see movies like these and it still doesn't prevent scientists from making the same mistakes
look good
I am so gonna see this :)
COOL 60th like!
Seems promising
Seems interesting
Every time i see a movie like this it just makes me wan't a live action Ghost in the shell movie more and more
