Labiaplasty and the Myth of Normal: Learn Integral Anatomy with Gil Hedley

  • www.gilhedley.com In this video I challenge the language of labia "major and minor" and offer the option of "inner and outer" labia to correct the judgements of propriety inherent in the established language. I further convey the reality of variation of the human vulva to assure that there is no "right" or "wrong" when it comes to one's personal endowment.
    For a detailed accounting of the human vulva, Explorer members of my site can watch Anatomy from A to Z, Courses 2 and 9~ Enjoy!

    I appreciate you and the use of language Gil! Key statement-> informed consent…to be informed of the variable beauty of bodies! Thus, giving the parent and/or patient pause before reshaping. And I vote yes yes yes for children’s books by Gil! And getting them in every digital & print library!

    Gil~ your consistent teachings on how variable our bodies can be from one another is so helpful in having self-appreciation and acceptance. It tells me there is nothing “ wrong” with my body, it is beautiful and perfect just the way it is.
    I’m going to share this. Thank you. ❤ Namaste🙏

      Is there a definitive number for the nerves in a given part of the female and male anatomy, people throw out all kinds of numbers that may or may not reflect reality

    • @somanaut
      @somanaut  Před rokem +2

      Hi Marguerite, I totally get the cultural/religious baggage that can get in the way of appreciating our gifts, and share with you in doing the work to get beyond early conditioning, as well as current cultural mind-frames. As you know from your work, it is worth it to buck the trends on matters concerning the body, better to go with what's truly healing when you discover it for yourself! As for "40,000 nerve endings," that is an enthusiastic misquote haha, actually it's more like 8-10,000, but numbers are far less relevant than whether or not we have created positive pathways for those potential sensations, that might be worth a video of its own! Love to Belfast!

    • @somanaut
      @somanaut  Před rokem +2

      There really are not definitive numbers, though there are some general ones, 8-10,000 for the glans clitoris, about 1/2 that for the glans penis, and many many more for the foreskin of the penis. I might address your valid question and concern in another video, thank you for bringing up this issue and for watching!

    I love this video and I love that you have broached this topic! ~ This information is especially important for girls who are starting to look at themselves and wondering what "normal" is and are my most intimate parts, "okay" or "pretty." I want this played in sex ed classes!

    Dear dear Gil, Thank you for taking such an intimate subject that is often quite taboo and turning it into coffee table talk, lol! I am still trying to educate women today on where their vagina actually is! Recently one of my coworkers and myself took a waxing class. She could not find anyone to be her partner so I stepped up. The instructor also allowed ME to do a waxing since I was there. My co-worker and partner for the day could not stop apologizing for the "largeness" of her labia. Seriously, I was intrigued as it resembled a beautiful flower. I could not for the life of me figure out why she was apologizing about it. I wrote a poem about 35 years ago which spoke about the "flower of my womanhood" and to have her refer to herself that way just made me smile widely. It is a shame that the media has dictated what they feel is normal. No wonder so many women have hang ups surrounding sex! Thank you so much for this beautifully done video on something so amazing! What marvels the human bodies are!

      Basically all doctored (as in digitally remapped) images of our bodies, not to mention just drawings, or carefully filtered body types, will skew the mirror in which we see ourselves and consequently conceive our self images. One of the things I love most about my work is witnessing our true, inherent, gift of variation, beautiful and fascinating!

    Thank you for addressing this issue Gil! I think it's very sad that some women feel the need to have their labia surgically altered to fit in with an aesthetic that is very much influenced by porn. I mean no judgement of women who do have this surgery for aesthetic reasons, just the presures that lead them to do it.
