1953 Corvette Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode 241 V8TV
    #musclecar #v8tv
The 1953 Chevrolet Corvette was the first of its kind for GM in many ways, from the 2-seat sports car platform to the fiberglass body shell. The Corvette has come a long way since then, but the formula remains consistent today. This is one of the 300 built that year, launching the longest running passenger car brand in history. From The Brothers Collection.

Can't even put into words how much I love Vettes. When I was 5, my dad showed me his 1972 Vette, 327 with a 4spd m22 rock crusher and t tops, and told me it'd be mine one day. I'm 16 now and starting on getting it road worthy again.

The styling of these very early years is great. Short overhang in front, the grill and the integrated exhaust tips are beautiful.

The first - and the best looking of the pre-supercar Vettes. I wish I could afford to own one, although I would be tempted to resto-mod it with a turbocharged small block V8, carbon disc brakes, and coil over suspension... (I just subscribed to the site - with notification, too.)

Certainly not a muscle car particularly with that gutless 235 inline six, but I approve it as it kicked off the Vette. As for C1's I prefer the duel headlight later cars with my favorite being the 62' fuelie triple black.

And all of the 319 were 2 speed automatics. About the "pedestrian cars"of the fifties, even a 6 cylinder Ford custom 4 door, was vastly superior to the european Fords (The english Consul and even the better german Taunus - I know this first hand, we had both in my family-).

The early C1 year sales were incredibly weak but GM knew there was a market. Ford introduced the Thunderbird and sales were quite good for a 2 seater personal luxury car, 16,000 units sold. 1955 was almost the last year for corvettes with a paltry 700 built and only 4,640 total sales 53-55 GM lost money on everyone produced and dealers absolutely hated them. Sales were rapidly declining, and nearly 1/3 unsold on dealer lots at year end. Poor customer reaction and negative reviews and constant water leaks in the interior cabin. GM expected sales of 10,000 per year. Then the new 1956 styling with the now famous side coves was introduced and the V8 265 was standard. Then sales really took off in 57 with the introduction of rochester fuel injection and 4 spd trans. The 283 V8 made 1 hp per cubic inch a very first and essentially became a factory race car. And the rest is history.
