  • Step one, pin removal without the lead solder. The HCL method works best when the reaction is not contaminated by metals other than gold plated copper. Lead solder quickly ruins the reaction. Keep lead solder out of the solution.

Good video, but you talked about ruining the reaction if much lead solder are in the solution, so, how can i get rid off of the lead solder before proceeding?

Thanks, lead is easily removed with an old cast iron frying pan in a well ventilated area. If you feel you have a lot of lead on you pins layer them in a cast iron pan (propane is best) cover and heat until the lead puddles. This happens very quickly with lead low melting point. Then pour off. Let pins cool before placing in solution. Pins left on board in solder are processed with fire then back in HCL. Good luck

Goodmorning Jeff Lear, I was thinking and embarking on a new idea but just thought to share it with you because of your professional ideas in this field. Can I dissolve full gold plated pins in HCL and bleach and then precipitate with SMB, will it work? though I know the process is slower than the aqua-regia solution. I wait your candid response on this. Thanks and God bless

They are Nortel networks communication boards. They came out of an oil platform.
