The Fox & The Firefly Cottages are a river retreat resort by the side of Loboc River on Bohol Island. It maintains an ethnic, traditional atmosphere, building rooms in traditional thatched cottages. Not only that, the entire estate resembles a forest, even the foot paths within the estate leading to the rooms. The walking through the banana plants makes you feel like you're wondering through a tropical forest maze. The main attractions are going paddle boarding or kayaking on the Loboc River. Did you know that the Loboc River is the second cleanest river in the Philippines? There are strict laws preventing pollution of the Loboc River. Even the locals realize that the Loboc River is part of their important tourism economy. The river is emerald green from the algae in the river, otherwise, it is clean to play and swim in. The highlight is to ride a paddle board or kayak in the evening to watch the fireflies. Their neon green will dot the entire forest, and they reside in places that are only reachable by paddle board or kayak. You can also rent bicycles from the Fox & the Firefly Cottages, or rent scooters nearby to travel to other tourist sites. If you want to experience something with a local touch, this is the hotel for you. Also, the restaurant, Food & Fable Cafe, served up some of the best food we ate in our entire trip! We had mosquito spray, but we didn't get bitten. Then again, if you plan to take the paddle board or kayak on the river to watch fireflies in the evening, you might want to take precautions.
