В русских народных песнях очень много символизма. Когда в песне есть ворон или голубка, или соловей - это вовсе не птицы. Поэтому иностранец не в силах оценить в полной мере всю глубину произведения. Тем ценнее такая эмоциональная реакция. Пелагея, БРАВО! Когда техника рождена интеллектом и душой, тогда это понятно на любых континентах.

Frank, in Russia, Pelageya is not just a singer, she is a real icon! I found a video where she sang with a man whose songs mean a lot to the Russian people. His name is Nikolay Rastorguev, and he became very popular at a very, very difficult time for our country. In Russia, we call these years the "dashing 90s". Nikolay is very much loved and respected in Russia. He is the lead singer of the group Lube. Here is their song.

Наблюдаю перевод песни на английский язык и поражаюсь - как же он беден . Как же богат наш руский язык, когда аналог перевода так сильно далек от того что на самом деле обозначет какое либо слово. Это действительно эмэйзинг!
Английский устроен вообще по-другому, у них в языке для связи слов в предложении используется их порядок и расположение относительно друг друга. Получается достаточно жёсткая структура, в которой сложно менять местами слова, не нарушая смысл сказанного. Это накладывает определённые ограничения. В русском для связи слов между собой используются окончания этих слов, этим самым достигается большая гибкость. Кроме того, такая гибкость допускает словообразование с использованием большого количества суффиксов, приставок и т.д. Т.о. образуются более сложные формы слова (уменьшительно-ласкательные, например). В романских языках такого, разумеется, нет.
Перевод настолько слаб и совершенно не передает подлинного смысла песни, что тут даже говорить не о чем. Видимо, какой-то сильно доморощенный специалист переводил. Ну, и разумеется, такой примитивный у англосаксов язык, что весь мир пользуется для общения исключительно русским.

This song was created way more earlier, it was first written down in the end of XIX century (1890th), but nobody knows how long before this Cossack's folk song was created and how many centuries it passed going from mouth to ear and on and on... ;o)

The meaning of this song is as follows - a Cossack, a Russian warrior, has a dream in which the east wind blows the cap off his head. Yesaul, an officer, tells the Cossack that the meaning of his dream is that he will soon die. But the Cossack still goes to fight, because it is his duty.

A song about a premonition of imminent death in battle.
