  • At Camera Ready, we take pride in providing professional-grade makeup for your special effects needs, but one of our most commonly asked questions is about the types of face and body paints we offer! For this installment of our Back to the Basic SFX Tutorials, we are covering which paint is best for you based on the type of look and effect you're trying to create.
For this blog and tutorial, we partnered with @Nsomniaksdream to highlight the differences between water-activated and alcohol-activated paints. Really random question about Alcohol activated paint. Do you happen to know if it could be used to block UV rays while worn? 🙇‍♂️

Great vid! This convinced me to use water based paints with a sealer for the envision festival we are attending in the Costa Rican jungle. Thanks for the brand tips on the sealers. Any advice on removing the water based sealers?

An oil-based cleanser always does the trick! Ben Nye Bond Off and PPI Telesis Makeup Remover are great options and super easy to use! :-)

Can you use glycerine based instead of alcohol activated on makeup over latex foam or silicone prosthetics on a face to avoid the risks of alcohol on the skin?

Hi, Karen! We are sorry for the delay in responding! Foam latex will soak up the glycerine like a sponge. It would separate and bead off of silicone. We would recommend staying with the alcohol-based makeup, using rubber grease paint, or using PAX paint to pre-paint the prosthetic. I just got some black pots from Reel Creations. Thanks for making this video! Its been tough finding info specifically on alcohol based ones.
I'm shooting for black hands/arms kinda like Vessel from Sleep Token. We'll see how much i need to get it nearly opaque 😅

Thanks for explaining it all so clearly! I bought 100% Alcohol by accident , is it ok to use it? Or should i just be safe and get the 99%. Thanks!!

Play it safe and stick to the 99%! Using anything else might affect the efficacy of the paints :-)

Can you use 100 % alcohol with the water activated paints?

    • @CRCmakeup

Nope, it would ruin the water-activated paints! If you want to sheer out the color, just use more water! :-)
