There has to be a reasonable mathematical model that projects what's really likely to happen to growth rates as the baseline increases in many of these fast growing metros. A handful of really fast growing metros will assuredly climb the ranks (Austin, Raleigh, Nashville, Orlando, Charlotte, San Antonio), but they won't have anywhere near these numbers.

Yeah very true. The fact that metro areas are growing much faster than the national average means that the total sum of this list may even be larger than the high end estimates for the entire country by that time, I mean NYC, Houston and Dallas alone is nearly 100 million here.

There is no way populations will get this high, they are unsupportable (22M in Austin, 30+ in Houston). Before they get this high, some sort of cataclysm will cap or significantly reduce he number of humans around. We are barely holding the world together as it is.

That Raleigh-Cary doesn’t include Durham add that metro and The Triangle will be pretty huge

One thing to consider is factoring in global warming drout and sea level rise. Ocean taking over land as well as drout prone areas are going to take a big hit by 2100 to be realistic.

Most of those numbers defy reason. Population growth in the U.S. will slow greatly between now and 2100.

Damn New York number 1 and Dallas nymber 2 in metropolitan population in 2100.That is crazy.I live in Far Southeast Dallas section of the city limits of Dallas and its packed with people because my area is surrounded by suburb areas so technically its an inner city area where i live at.Mainly hispanics and the black people are second in population. Not that many white people too.The white people are mainly in the suburbs where i live at.So i do believe Dallas will be second in metro population in the country because Dallas is getting more and more packed

Realistically places like Houston and Dallas will get way too expensive like NYC and LA have in recent years and population growth will greatly slow. Those cities simply can’t support 30 million people (that’s around the population of all of California). Interesting video nonetheless

People might be surprised by the numbers out of some of these cities, but people aren’t talking about Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers and I would include Bentonville, even though they are the fastest growing.

Thanks Donkey Hoatie for your comment. However, assuming current trends, Omaha, NE would rank #53 in 2100, with about 2.4 million in the Metro Area. I realize its all assumption and time will only tell.

I think this might be close to accurate but I think Dallas Miami Houston Tampa and Orlando maybe even Austin too is going to surpass NYC and LA by 2100 in fact I think Tampa lakeland and Orlando is going to be one massive metro area combined in as little as 10 years but definitely before 20 years.

Austin in growing very fast while LA's population is declining. I think Austin's growth will slow down though because of how expensive it is now. The average price of a home went above $600k.

    • @benfelps
      @benfelps Před 2 lety +1

@@hashiramasenju6058 LA is not going to be overtaken by Austin in the next 100 years. Austin is not near a port, it's running out of water and the infrastructure to support true future growth is not being built. Austin will always be overshadowed by its large and similarly fast growing Texas neighbors - Dallas and Houston. Also, housing prices don't mean anything out of context. 600,000 in LA or NYC metro is dirt cheap.

    • @hashiramasenju6058

@@benfelps 1) I never said Austin would overtake LA. I literally said that I think Austin’s growth will slow down.
      2) A city doesn’t have to be near a port to be a big city. This isn’t the 1800’s when land transit wasn’t very good/efficient and air transit was non-existent meaning you had to live on the water to have easy access to goods.
      3) Yes, Austin is running out of water but so is LA. LA has had droughts for YEARS. That’s what innovation is for. We need to invest into desalination plants and pipe it to these cities.
      4) Austin IS improving its infrastructure. They just approved a tax increase to pay for more light rail lines.
      5) Dallas and Houston are not growing anywhere near the rate Austin is growing. And Austin’s population is just under 1 million, Dallas’ population is about 1.3 million.
      6) $600k in Texas is INSANE. Dallas and Houston are not any where near that expensive.

LA having high taxes and pricing people out of thier homes to places like Texas it wouldn't surprise me.

@@Itravelbackintime One thing that California haters need to realize is that all new taxes are approved by VOTERS. If Californians didn't want new taxes, they wouldn't pass. The taxes are paying for services, infrastructure, etc. I live in Texas (Houston) and it's not as good as you think. The property taxes and sales tax is high af. Many people are losing their homes because they can't afford the property taxes. Due to there being no income taxes and low gas tax, they have a ton of toll roads and they are EXPENSIVE AS FUCK! You might pay up to $250 a month for tolls. Public transit in terrible, there are very little sidewalks, bike lanes, etc. The transportation costs are ridiculously high because you have to drive 45 - 60 minutes to get anywhere.
