    These really are the best instructions I've found on the web or even a commercial printed pattern. The videos are clear and concise and with my sometimes failing memory, I found them very reassuring as I watched it over and over along each step of the process. This did slow my progress,
    but there there was no unsewing or tearing of hair along the way. Thank you, Miles. Now I feel confident as I start sewing the rest of the new draperies for my house. You're a great teacher.

      I was curious if you ran into any problems since it was a sliding glass door. DId you just divide the width in 2 to get the correct length,,,,,Terry

    I followed your instructions and made a beautiful drapery. I can’t get the fabric, header, lining to fit into the grommet and snap closed. What kind of grommets did you use or recommend? I bought standard plastic grommets from Joann Fabrics as i was looking for white ones. Thanks

    Hello, thank you for your instructions! I have a question. I don’t understand why the drapery fabric is 4” wider than the lining fabric, causing it to be ruffle-y on the drapery side. Why don’t we want it smooth? Thanks!

    • @myleshurtubise9420
      @myleshurtubise9420 Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Adele,
      The lining sits 1" away from the edge of the drape on both sides. This means at both edges of the drape we have 1" of the drapery fabric doubled, which is why the main fabric is a total of 4" wider than the lining. The top of the drape will lay flat (i.e. no ruffles) :)

    Will the header tape be doubled on the edges by 3" each side? Will it matter? Will it be too thick for the grommets at either side?

    Myles, fantastic job on instructions, measuring, maths, and visuals on video. I have one question so am hoping you are still following this. I have a HUGE wall of windows to cover, 22' feet so 11' to draw to each side. Making 2 panels would be next to impossible to work with and not possible to have cleaned. What is the maximum panel width you would recommend? I can create several panels for each side and whip stitch those panels together before hanging to keep them together for drawing and then take out stitching for removal and cleaning unless you have a better solution. THANK YOU!!!

      @StudioFabricana  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Kathleen! Myles here. Thanks for your feedback on the video. I have consulted one of the experts in our drapery division and she would actually not recommend grommet style drapes for such a large span. The major problem is that in order to support the weight of the drapes, you would need multiple brackets to hold up the rod, and, unfortunately, the brackets would get in the way of the drapes opening and closing. Sorry to disappoint.

      @@StudioFabricana Thank you. I took another look at the plans and it can be done in 2 sets, each with a support in the center. I appreciate your feedback.

    If your package of grommets came with no instructions as to how far apart the grommets should be, what is a correct distance between grommets?? What is typical measurement of distance?? I have a window with two panels i'm working on that have black-out liner on the back of them.. ??

    • @StudioFabricana
      @StudioFabricana  Před 8 lety +1

      +Lisa Bevill The rule of thumb is typically to use 8 grommets per 54" panel. That way, the grommets aren't spaced too far apart (or your panel may start to rub against the wall). If you panel is larger than that, you will want to add more grommets, just make sure you always have an even amount. Once you know how many grommets you would like to use, you can calculate the distance between. Near the bottom of our instructions: www.studiofabricana.com/article.php?id=90 we talk about how to calculate grommet spacing. Keep in mind the distance from your rod to the wall also affects this calculation.

    • @StudioFabricana
      @StudioFabricana  Před 8 lety +1

      Hi Iquilt Sewwhat (love your username by the way!), the fabric we were working with does not fray so we left this edge unfinished.If you are worried your fabric may fray you can whipstitch over the edge or use a product to keep it from fraying such as fray check. Happy Sewing!

    I must admit I haven't sewn lined drapes before and am having a little trouble figuring out the header portion of the drapes. I understand that you sew the header tape to the top wrong side of the drape but, do you fold the header tape down onto the back side of the fabric at the seam line or double it over and have the header tape on the inside of the fabric and press??

    • @StudioFabricana
      @StudioFabricana  Před 7 lety

      Hi Barbara,
      Yes you will sew the header tape to the wrong side of your drape. There’s no need to do any other prep with the header tape before you attach the lining.
      When you go to attach your lining the top folded edge of your lining should line up to the point that the bottom of the header tape sits. Then you fold back the top of the drape along the bottom of the header tape, right-sides together (the bottom of the header tape will be at the top folded edge now) and pin in place.
      So once it’s all pinned together your layers (top to bottom) would be header tape, top of drape (right-side down), lining (right-side down) and then the rest of your drape (right-side up). Hope this makes sense. If you need to refer to that point in the video again it’s at about the 1:24 mark in the video.

  • @janlynran
    @janlynran Před 10 lety

    What about the 1&1/2"" of raw edges that are left exposed below the lining on each side?

    • @StudioFabricana
      @StudioFabricana  Před 10 lety +1

      Hi Janet, if you are working with a fabric that doesn't fray you can simply whipstitch this in place. If the fabric does fray, you can either turn the raw edge under slightly and then stitch it down, or use a product such as fray check (carefully) along the raw edge and then stitch it down once it dries. Hope this helps!

    I am having much difficulty with the Dritz grommets I purchased. The layers of fabric and tape seem to be too thick and I cannot get the grommet to snap together. Ugh! There is not a lip on these like on the one in your video. Where can I purchase grommets that will work? what brand would I be searching for?

    • @StudioFabricana
      @StudioFabricana  Před 8 lety

      +Justin Johnson You will want to make sure that you have grommets meant for drapery. There are lots of brands that will work but some grommets are meant more for clothing or crafts. The ones we used are called "heavy duty snap-on grommets" and they come from Canadian Drapery Hardware company. If you are not in Canada, try going to a store that sells home decor fabrics and ask about drapery grommets. Hope this helps!
