So pretty!! I love the colors together - reminds me of a sunrise. Before you added the gold to the bottom area, it looked like abstract people. With the upper part of the stencil, I saw a church choir standing in front of stained glass windows. Might have to get this stencil just to try that idea out! There' another pigment powder out there - Brusho - they're more crystals than powder, but very vibrant & beautiful.
Denise, I didn't have the supplies you used today, so I swatched a small sample of some oil paints I got to try out for the first time while I watched your video. I love how you made your piece abstract and it turned out beautifully! I wasn't at all familiar with the supplies you used until today. I use Pixie Spray by I Craft, available on Amazon, on the back of my stencils and it helps them stick to the paper, seems to help. It’s repositionable and won’t rip your paper when you take it off.
I love the colors and how the pattern looks like it’s in melting off the page. i do have some Brusho powders and Lindy’s Magical Powders. I read some of the comments below that mention Pixie Spray. It does work and washes easily from the stencil. I know you don’t clean your stencils (and I really like how the previous color looks with the colors you chose). A spray of rubbing alcohol should take the stickiness from the spray off. Thanks for the great paint day. Have a great Sunday, Denise🤗
WOWWWWWW...those colours are so vibrant....LOVE it all... the 3 design in one Stencil too did the trik 😊... you could spray 3M remouvable glue on the back of the stencil to make it stay firm ❤❤❤
If you use Brusho, stick a sewing pin or thumbtack through the center of the Brusho jar lid…. You can sprinkle tiny amounts that way, and then keep a thumbtack in it for storage. I love my Brusho powder so much that I don’t plan to try any other watercolor powders unless I’m given them out something 😝
This turned out really well. Watercolor powders are indeed very messy, but you can get such beautiful results from them. There is also a product I learned about from Mary Beth Shaw, StencilGirl, called pixie spray, which you spray on the back of a stencil, it is low tack, and it keeps the stencil in position. I own it, but I haven’t tried it yet. Actually I won’t be trying it for a while as I just had shoulder surgery again and will be out of commission for probably six months.
I knew it would be a great paint day when you say "lets try something kinda crazy" but the final page looks great,I loved the colours they all merged so well and I lovehow thw stencil was in effect ghosted,further enhanced by the gold. Maybe next time tyou try this maybe add in some of the metallic wayercolour powders to give a shimmer to the colours.Sometimes the unpredictable gives amazing inspired results like this. (P.s) I ordered a set of the Mungyo soft pastels and just know they'l be a great adition to my mixed media art creating,thank you for the reccommendation of those,I already love thir oil pastels.

@@2lilowlsstudio Denise,when I use watercolour powders which are messy to say the least, I have a way to contain them when I'm using them. I have a really large shallow draw that I think came fom a plan chest, you know for storing large blue prints/plans etc. I fouund it at a thridt store a few years ago. what I do I have the base lined with a plastic sheet,then ontop of thesei lay old newspapers. I use the powders indise this draw and it's sides kep the powders contained and stop them going every where. When Im finished and my pieces are dry I can simply throw away the news papers and claen down the plastic sheet lining and it's ready to go again,and after a time I change the plastcc sheeting in the base as it stains. But it means the rest of my studio space is proteced from watercolour powders getting everywhere. (matt)
Just a suggestion. I use little magnets to hold the stencil down. (Put a magnetic sheet under the page and the little magnets on top of the stencil
