seeing the whimsy of someone who has only played the first kirby play the second kirby is kinda magical
It's literally the best thing ever for me, I always love to see it 😊
I love that Grayfruit is now slowly starting to discover how peak Kirby is
This has always been my favorite type of character Arc :)
So fun fact about the minigame at the end of each level: if you land on 7, then sequentially land on 6, 5, and so on, you’ll get 30 lives when you land on the top platform instead of just one.
chat is this real
@@windchimes8764 Not only is it real, the trick re-appears in many later Kirby titles
Wtf how did I never hear about this?
I'm, like, the biggest kirby nerd there is!
what the fuck that's awesome
@@PoyoDesuka it's extremely obscure trivia, so I don't blame you for not knowing! But on the bright side, now that you know, this information is never leaving your brain!
i'm glad he immediately partakes in the honored kirby fan tradition of shitting on hi-jump
Hi-Jump serves one purpose which is to climb Kracko's boss room and even then I'm pretty sure Tornado beats it in that regard as well, truly one of the Copy Abilities.
At least it's fun in Return to Dreamland lmao.
@@willytor7899 Its one of the most one-note abilities ever, its applicable to two things: vertical stages and maybe Kracko's boss fight
@@ingothasnolife8040 it's arguably worse in return to dream land because here at least it has the excuse that most copy abilities only have one move. RTD is post-full movesets, and yet high jump is still incredibly shallow
@@willytor7899 to be completely fair though, the ability itself is limiting by name, most i personally could imagine adding to it is some simple combos, like creates some stars on down-dash, then like being able to hit them and do damage in a column above you or smth
it's a ghost of the past in Spider's kit with the trampoline
this game is so expressive and cute it makes me want to live several more years
THIS IS SO TRUE, Adventure has to be one of the most expressive NES games like holy cow
Love when he pauses and starts clacking on his comically loud typewriter keyboard. That's when you know there's a +2 Bit Incoming
So, about sucking up multiple skills at the same time: Mix's result is predetermined according to what enemies you got, so getting two of the same enemy will always yield the same result (assuming you don't stop the roulette manually). Two spark guys will always give you Hammer, two beam will always give you Throw, and famously, two stone dudes will give you UFO. The game even gives you secret rooms where there are two stone guys specifically so you get a Mix out of them.
Glad you're enjoying my favorite game ever. Lag is annoying but consistent, so you get used to it. Hope this info is useful to you!
Also, since I know you love glitches, you can get like 160 charges of Mike if you kill the 2nd boss with your last charge while floating right where the star rod fragment will appear. It takes a frame for the ability to disappear, but you get the thing at the same time, so you get out of the boss fight with zero charges remaining and it cicles all the way back to F9 charges when you use it. It also makes Kirby spit out all kinds of wacky sprites instead of the microphone, which I believe you'll appreciate.
Toby fox going to Japan and meeting sakurai and playing some smash brothers together is some priceless shit that will live rent free in my head until I die. Imagine being Toby, and meeting the dude responsible for melee, smash64, classic Kirby, Kirby air ride, kid Icarus uprising. A young legend met and old legend that day
55:11 i cannot describe my unimaginable disappointment when i heard gray utter the words "hawk tuah" multiple times in a row
Hawk Tuah must be capitalized as a proper noun. show some damn respect for our national treasure
@@RedDeltix to be fair this is the guy that spent the entire elden ring dlc memeing with boy piss eggs
@@ninjax9675Forgive me if I'm out of the loop but isn't the whole point of "hawk tuah" is that it's an onomatopoeia used as a verb?
you should've watched the 'Hey Arnold the Movie the Game' stream
He said Skibidi
@@crpalstuck2966I'm sorry WHAT kind of eggs
sad that gray loved the cutter ability but then proceeded to accidentally kill every enemy that gave cutter because he didn't know that they did. He literally got cutter in probably the most obscure place, from the moon boss's attacks, and just didn't realize that it came from a very common enemy lol
Can't wait to when he gets to listen every remix they've done of these older games' OSTs and pog like kirby inhaling
Fingers crossed for Epic Yarn's rendition of Butter Building.
The lag issue is entirely solved on the 3ds "3d classics" port of kirbys adventure. it looks and plays exactly the same, just entirely without the lag issue. theres a chance the inputs being eaten might not be an issue, either. id highly reccomend it as the best way to experience kirbys adventure
I love Grayfruit constantly coping with the fact that he knows way too much about the fnaf series.
I love how much Gray fawns over the little things in this game
Because I'm going through such a massive burnout right now with pretty much everything, I really hope that seeing the fruitman go on another chronological binge of a game series will reignite my own desire to do something like that again, because it's been so long and having a passion for literally anything right now would be bliss.
The crane game stuff is funny. A bowling alley nearby recently got new cabinets put in, and they hadn't changed the switch thing inside which controls the bullshit, so it was at max odds (I think like 1/4 was a solid grip) and I managed to get a bunch of among us plushies as Christmas presents for £4
Holy shit, I never thought I see the day when the fruit hangs out with the funny pink thing
For real!!!! I hope he plays amazing mirror with Lark
We'll just have to wait and see!
He’s really gonna do it. He’s really gonna play every Kirby game in order like some mad fuck
I would actually recommend playing in order, however with breaks to avoid burn out, because even as a fan of the series I can admit that playing them in order for too long will drive you insane since for the most part the core gameplay is the exact same, which depending on who you are might burn you out from monotony.
@@ingothasnolife8040 in case you didnt know, Grayfruit is very much a variety streamer so theres no worry about that
@@crpalstuck2966 I am aware! I'm just saying I recommend doing that for anyone in general as a whole lmao
@@ingothasnolife8040I can agree with the monotony sentiment, wholeheartedly. I have burned out on many game genera’s because of my stupid ass machine gun binge consuming them back to back. Additionally, the physics and design differences are subtle between games, my brain has a hard time parsing the differences between Kirby super star ultra and return to dreamland.
The most hooked I have gotten on a Kirby game is forgotten land, it’s unironically a good, solid challenge for everyone type of game. It’s basically pocket dark souls and I love it
@@stanley8006 that's so true!!!
messed around with the overclocking stuff after watching this vod and yeah it feels way better. it still eats your inputs at the apex of your jump, he was right, the little twirl prevents you from using your copy ability, but otherwise it feels very nice. I'd recommend the mesen emulator, and setting its "Additional scanlines before NMI" setting to around 300. The emulator also has overscan settings and sprite flicker reduction, if you want to mess with those.
As someone who has 100%'d the game this way I can attest to the quality of the gameplay experience with overclocking.
the fruit man rolls into action at 1:26
Fruit is going to LOVE how Mike looks once he gets to Super Star.
Fruit lands with Kirby at 1:25
I am so fucking here for the Grayfruit kirby era
Superstar is such a crazy game with a million crazy strats and tricks id love to see grey try on stream
Grayfruit is gonna loose his mind when he plays Superstar I'm calling it rn
This is my favorite NES game and probably my favorite kirby game.
One thing to know if you are going to binge through all of the early games: Kirby 64 is considered to be part of a trilogy with Dreamland 2 and 3 by the Kirby community since they all share the same director (Shinichi Shimomura, not Sakurai), have a loose but overarching plot and elements that mainly appear in those 3 titles, so it might be worth throwing on the list if you plan on playing both Dreamland 2 and 3
To answer the question of mix (eating two enemies with abilities at the same time) being used in speedruns, that’s almost EXACTLY what happens. It’s not complete rng with the abilities, but a set order in which they cycle through and then you press A to stop. Speedrunners often go for an ability with high mobility like wheel or burning
Grayfruit Kirby marathon???? Very excited for this!
44:12 i love your correct intuition of "are any of these secretly doors", followed by you completely passing the one that actually was secretly a door
I highly recommend checking out Kirby’s Avalanche or at least a video of the character intros. It’s a Puyo Puyo game but Kirby is a savage and all the enemies introduce themselves in funny voices. At one point he tells someone to “meddle in someone else’s affairs”. It’s fun and fairy difficult if you’re into that type of game but it’s just funny to see the Kirby from American commercials in an actual game.
The amount of "guy whos only played (blank)" moments in this stream are absurd if this stream gets a highlight video i hope its ONLY these
2:55 I'd say it's more like a literature review!
6:30 That's official art from the Kirby's Star Stacker VS mode. His expression was toned down outside of Japan- understandable. They also changed the background, which used to be the flag of Imperial Japan??
Cool to see you go on a kirby binge, pretty fun series, lots of fun references to past games in later titles. Hope you enjoy the games since I know you weren't too keen on kirby as a whole.
Well let's get ready to enjoy the next 7 months as grayfruit proceeds to play literally every Kirby game in existence, even the obscure ones most people don't touch like Tilt 'n' Tumble and all of those random puzzle games they made for some reason.
I looked up jenkem and the moral panic is about the usage in the US, it absolutely was used in Zambia specifically
Screenwrapping jank I think has just always been a thing on NES & sometimes SNES... the way screen scrolling works in those old games is basically black-magic so I assume the programmers were like "screw it, it's good enough. nobody's gonna notice the glitched edge tile"
We'll back with some more Kaaaahhhhrbeyhhhhh at 1:26, here at WDPK 83.7 Grayfruit Station, stay tuned!
Grayfruit's infectious joy while playing this is wholesome ngl, so glad he's seemingly in his kirby arc atm.
thanx for the new vod ^_^ i forgot what time it was and stayed up til 6am
Video for this game should have the same titling convention as the Rocket Knight video, EG: "Man with cold dead heart experiences joy for second time"
Kirby's Adventure is my personal pick for the best NES game honestly, the only thing that holds it back is its hardware not being able to keep up.
That's why the 3D Classics version is the best version of the game, since it's just Kirby's Adventure without the lag (and some 3D special effects if you want)
1:02:20 deltarune queen noise
Danny B said on twitter recently that the label he used (tunecore or something) has been claiming all his meatboy music against his will. I believe he said he was trying to fix it but there was very little he could do.
44:10 Genuinely can not believe he was looking for doors in the windows and then stopped RIGHT AS THE DOOR IN THE WINDOW COMES INTO FRAME. The hint is that doors have flat bottoms while the windows had curved bottoms, and right at that moment the flat bottomed door appeared.
I would recommend playing Kirby 64 in this marathon as well if you plan on playing 2 and 3, since those games are part of a lite-trilogy together with some mechanics and story elements (They were also all directed by shinichi shimomura instead of sakurai) Otherwise definitely a good idea to pace yourself because watching you enjoy kirby is a really great time!
I heard a lot about how this game lags on original hardware*; I might recommend the 3DS port if Citra hadn't been taken out back lmao
This is a blessing i thought would never return!!
I booted this game up on an emulator to see if the input problems were as bad as gray was saying and they totally are. I dunno how I never noticed that until now.
Grayfruit's having another interest again!!!
Kirby’s Freaking Awesome and Badass Adventure
we need months of grayfruit kirby content please
You might want to change the aspect ratio settings in the emulator you're using, it's a little too narrow as it is.
The correct aspect ratio for the NES is 8:7, you can easily check if the aspect ratio is correct by checking how circular Kirby looks in the intro and on the title screen.
Depending on how you feel about getting DS emulation set up, you might want to consider Super Star Ultra over normal Super Star. It's practically double the content and has fixes for a lot of just general design issues the original Super Star has.
Praying that he does the Kirby anime Wendy’s menu board game
I really hope grayfruit plays SSU rather than Super Star, it might be the best game on the DS
both of them have their own unique charms. I personally prefer how SNES Super Star looks, but the extra content in Ultra is no joke
Maybe he could play the original and then download a full save of Ultra to check out the new stuff
27:45 solatorobo and kirby's dreamland 3 come to mind, can't think of any more atm
PLEASE play every game in the series, would be very cool. Might get repetitive, maybe take breaks between games idk
isn't it kind of weird how kirby's adventure and kirby's dream land 2 are both sequels to the same game made by different people?
Not entirely unheard of. Same thing happened with Sonic. Even Mario (in a way).
Gray Fruit, a Fruit that is Gray
Let's watch the game he play
i don't remember how exactly its done but i think with ball you keep pressing the attack button every time you hit a surface and bounce progressively faster each time, and after a couple bounces you get a hurtbox. that or im tripping entirely
If you play up to Dreamland 3 I'd also recommend playing Kirby 64. It's sort of an honorary Kirby's Dreamland game. People like to consider Dreamland 2, 3 and 64 to be part of a trilogy for their related story and gameplay styles.
Hell yeah, Floor Baba
I hope he plays Super Star Ultra someday. It took an already great Kirby game and added a lot of cool new stuff.
HES DOING IT HES PLAYING SOME OF THE KIRBY GAMES LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Adventure is one of my Favorite Games in the series and is literally a Major part of my Childhood with one of my Favorite Kirby Worlds ever, I hope you enjoy The Fruit of Gray!
My buddy is also a "Binge Gamer" like Grayfruit, and hes trapped in a Sonic Binge Obsession until they release Sonic Movie the 3rd. I fear for his mental health.
i did NOT expect a rawest forest refrence at 1:57:18 but ill take it
40 gainfruit sounds slightly more close to me in a weird asmr way
CZcams copyright bs has just gotten worse and worse. Even goddamn Pvz music nowadays gets you copyright claimed and that really feels like it should not be a thing.

I love this game, it was my first Kirby game that I bought on the 3DS estore and I played it all the time
Finally the grayfruit Kirb arc starts.
Hope he continues on a better emulator so he doesn't have to worry about the delay
lol on the sound stuff in the prologue, would anyone actually care? i can't imagine someone watching a twitch scraps and the mic quality changes between clips and clicking off because it sounds imperceptibly different
i cannot wait for once you get to the DS era of games! SSU and Squeak Squad are the greatest!
Definitely not overscan or a emulator error, CRTs _might_ cover it if it was set up poorly but nah you'd see that on a CRT. I don't know the exact cause, I'm sure one of those nerd technical analysis channels could find whatever small coding error or deliberate compromise was made for it to do that.
I may be totally wrong but honestly the lag seems worse on here than on console, lmao.
I know you said you're probably sticking to mainline but I highly encourage you to play Epic Yarn at some point. It's spinoff territory a la Canvas Curse or Mass Attack, but it's got loads of charm, a unique soundtrack compared to the rest of the series, and the main campaign can probably be finished entirely over the course of a single stream. It's peak "baby game" as far as Kirby games go but it's still a super fun time. And it has co-op! Maybe you could play it with Bella or Lark?
Grayfruit Kirby rennaissance?
1:15:26 i thought you saw amogus
1:16:00 should have said frisk or something so the next room would have been even funnier
Hey Grayfruit, I was wondering if you could say what NES emulator you used for this game, if you don't mind me asking.
Yeah, Gray is gonna have to get used to the recurrence of Kirby games being the best games on each console, especially the earlier games.
Ball hater?? Hate to say it, YOU DON'T KNOW BALL
POOOOOOOGEEEERRRRSSS
I'll be honest mr fruit, as someone who toured the whole series (not in order), Dream Land 2 and 3 are... rough around the edges. DL3 is at least good-looking, and if you're here to understand references both of em are constantly referenced later in the series, but, well, I hope you stick with it past these ones. Once we hit Super Star it gets a lot better.
i personally haven't played dream land 2 and i only played a bit of dream land 3 but I'm sure it'll be fine. they're still charming in their own ways. And maybe he'll like them, there's no need to warn in advance. Superstar is peam though i agree
I will always say Dream Land 3 is a perfectly fine game, and that people only set themselves up for disappointment because they want/expect it to be more like Superstar.
Both are great, wtf are you on about
