    I’ve heard that these types of masks just pull out sebaceous filaments and can damage your skin barrier. A gentler way to do that would be oil cleansing and using a gentle chemical exfoliant.

    • @mandyheart8754
      @mandyheart8754 Před 2 lety +95

      Yeah, they’re not blackheads and whiteheads, they’re just sebaceous filaments. The thing is, when those filaments are removed, they tend to make pores look bigger (even though they aren’t actually bigger) because they’re now “empty” and can appear as tiny dark holes, especially the areas where the filaments were larger.

      @@mandyheart8754 I understand what you’re saying but wouldn’t one want to remove sebaceous filaments from the pores? Are those premature blackheads? I’m not sure if you’re saying to leave them alone, or use a gentler process as explained by the original comment on this thread? And if you do think the gentler process is best (oil cleansing & gentle chemical exfoliant), are you saying the gentler process won’t leave the empty pore looking as big and stripped as it would with the boscia black peel off mask? I’m really interested because my skin is temperamental yet definitely dry skin & some products can be a disaster for me. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    • @jennajimmd
      @jennajimmd Před 2 lety +57

      @@alicemoraldenis4286 hi! this is actually a good question, and the short answer is no, you absolutely do not want to remove sebaceous filaments from your skin! They’re not premature blackheads or anything like that, they’re actually an important structure in your skin’s membranous system. They facilitate oil movement to your skin (oil that keeps the skin moisturized, which is a very very good thing!) and removing them can cause more congestion, as you’re removing the ability to have that oil moved to the top layer of the skin and can cause buildups. Blackheads are congestion, sebaceous filaments are natural and very healthy parts of the skin. Gentle cleansing is best because you’re wiping away excessive oil, dirt and debris. However, masks like this one can actually do way more harm than good by removing the top-most layers of the skin, leading to irritation and a temporarily ‘glowy’ or ‘soft’ look (because they quite literally removed the ‘old’ skin cells, regardless of whether they were healthy or not, and expose the skin layer underneath.) if you have sensitive, temperamental skin, the best cleanser to use is a cream or gel, with or without a cleansing oil as you see fit. I hope this explanation helped!

    Me watching this while chilling in my salicylic acid mask, cringing about how I thought these peel off masks were effective as a teenager
    Note: these do exfoliate and get rid off sebaceous filaments but don't do much for blackheads. Chemical exfoliation every two weeks is just superior. The former isn't completely ineffective.

      @@jenngranados825 I actually live in India 😅 and I don't think the company ships worldwide. I exfoliate twice a week (once with AHA and once with SA) to target both whiteheads and blackheads followed by moisturizer. 2% SA and ≥5% AHA works best for me and a peeling solution one to two times a month. If you are looking for cheap alternatives to the ones found in USA you can go for Earth Rhythm (one of the Indian brands that ship worldwide). But ig there are lot of brands that do make SA masks like TO for eg.

      For the people asking about brands: you can buy straight up salicylic acid powder or liquid (dissolved in alcohol) and add it to any neutral skin product that you already like. I usually use a 3% strength on my face and 5% on my body daily. Then once a month do a 30% peel. If you buy straight salicylic acid it lets you experiment to suit your needs without buying tons of expensive products that you're then stuck using until the bottle runs out over and over again.

    I've used this mask actually and I didnt like it cuz it really didn't "pull out" any of my whiteheads and yes the white dots that u see on the mask those are just places where some of the mask got stuck on the little pores of the skin and didn't come off and it's kinda hard to get off all of the product from the pores afterwards cuz a lot of it gets stuck on the pores nd needs rubbing to remove it. Also this mask has a really strong smell and it also stings a little bit.
