Thank you for visiting the crypt of Actress Joan Hackett. She's my absolute favorite actress. She is largely forgotten in today's times but her performances have always captivated me.She had this cute little nervous bubbly style of acting in her roles which I always thought was charming. Some of her performances include "Will Penney" (1968),"Support Your Local Sheriff" (1967)," Only When I Laugh" (1981),"Reflections of Murder" (1974),and my personal favorite "The Last Of Shelia" (1973).Her TV roles include apperances on "Taxi","The Love Boat" and many more television roles.I discovered her by watching a 1962 TV show version of the film "Rebecca" on her appearance alongside Actor James Mason in the sixties tv show "Theatere 62".She was sadly diagnosed with ovarian cancer in late 1981 but bravely got up from her wheelchair to accept a Golden Globe Award for her role as Toby Landau in "Only When I Laugh" in 1982.She died on October 8,1983 of ovarian cancer in an Encino Hospital.A lifelong Catholic,Joan's funeral mass was held at Saint Victor Catholic Church in Hollywood with numerous celebrities in attendance. She was entombed in a crypt in the Abbey of Psalms Mausoleum later that day. Her epitaph is in reference to her love and deep belief of beauty sleep.
Side Note: Joan's eldest sister,Theresa Hackett, is entombed immediately to the right of Joan. She died on September 19,1984,almost one year after Joan's death.

Actor Jon Gries- Horace - aka 'Button', was interviewed on Rob Words channel "A Word On Westerns". He fondly recalled that Joan took him under her wing during location production of "Will Penney" (1968), as his dad- the director Tom Gries- was extremely busy, and kept the young lad entertained and occupied, a very unselfish thing for her to do, especially since she had no obligation to be the nanny of the production.

In Pittsburgh, PA there is a "Hollywood Cemetery" (On California Ave., next to Uniondale Cemetery.) At one time it was THE premier cemetery with many notables. It's also one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the city but little-known because most of it is not visible from the street. Enter the gate, go around the bend and it will astound you.

Great job as usual, man. I got fond memories of Wizard of Oz back in Middle School since we're on the subject of the great Judy Garland. I happen to have played the Lion for a production of Wizard of Oz in Middle School and lots of folks said I channeled Bert Lahr's Lion. I got a much more appreciation and love of the movie due to that role. I studied it alot for this play and it definitely paid off.

That strip mall houses one of my jobs offices. The end building that butts up against Hollywood Forever is WIC. In a few occasions when we enter at 4am and visit that office, we hear weird noises. I have seen things that just cannot be explained.

I enjoyed touring this cemetery the last time I was in L.A. I remember Cecil B. DeMille's grave, Joey Ramone's, Dee Dee Ramone's (which had lipstick kisses covering it, left there presumably by fans of The Ramones), and the crypt of jazz saxophonist Art Pepper.

What a beautiful memorial park! I love all of the names, etc. I do think movie night is a little in bad taste, but, you do a great job, Arthur!!

It's nice to hear someone else say it. The guided tours are one thing- guests can be monitored, security maintained. But movie nights? And the SIZE of the crowd shown in the clip.... All I can think of is disrespect to graves, potential for damage/breakage/defacement of graves..... It makes me feel uneasy for sure!

What a creep -- that guy who bought the cemetery, "Jules Roth" or whoever -- with the sole purpose of making money off the dead -- shame, shame. A dishonorable gesture, especially when he doesn't even care enough to keep it up! Once a felon, always a felon. But I guess it has a happier status now, with new owners who care!

Agree 100% You got to be a real creep to steal the profits from a cemetery and dishonor the dead at the same time.

All of your series from the East Coast to Hollywood are so incredibly well done! Through most of these (I've watched many) I'm surprised how plain some Major stars graves are! The Fabulous Ms. Judy Garland (Patron Saint of Gay Men) is one that is Perfect for size and beauty! She was SOOO wonderful and so sad it all became too much for her!

Nice, and so well done! I had the pleasure of knowing Lana Clarkson, but I had moved away from LA before her death - and only kept in touch via email and phone. I haven't been back to town since. I heard that Lana was interred at Hollywood Forever, and I know how thrilling that would have been for her. Still, to see her tribute in a glass gallery in one of the private mausoleums was like visiting it in real time. I don't think there will be a moment in my life when I think of her and don't recognize her quick and lovely voice at the beginning of every phone call, "Helllllllo, Michael (last name), this is Lana Clarkson ...." The last voicemail message I received from her was a couple days before she was murdered. I wished that I had saved it because hearing her voice was always full of love, excitement, and she was as interested as she was interesting.
