    Barracuda meat is underrated. It’s really good. Just smaller ones are better due to high mercury in other ones

    can't wait to see what you do with the sheephead. my recommendation: stuff it with rosemary and lemons, top it with lemons, surround it with diced veggies, and bake it. the rosemary should be grabbed from a neighbor with sticks on to hold the belly open, and the meat melts in your mouth like butter. delicious fish, one of my local favorites. you might think of using some kind of garlic too, if you're into that. ;)

    Pacific Bonito are closer related to pacific mackerel and dogtooth tuna. What people call Bonita on the east coast are more like true tunas. Bonito have white meat, amazing flavor and not as bloody

    Barracuda tastes amazing. Cant believe they caught it their whole life and never ate it. Its one of the best eating fish imo

      Everyone I talk to says they taste amazing. The only reason people don’t eat them (around LA at least) is because they’ve got massive amounts of mercury in them. Same story with fish like Leopard Shark

    Vic. Love videos. I’m in Ca. Cuda is excellent. Fillet leave skin on. Eat first day or mushy. Bleed them too. Marinate in teriyaki. Cook on grill start flesh first then over to skin to finish. Use spatula lift right off skin. Flip onto a plate flesh down use fork with spatula pullout blood line. Flip back over onto rice. Little teriyaki baste on top.

    If you ever do Santa Cruz island out of Ventura u should try fishing for rockfish a good spot for them is between anacapa and Santa Cruz right out of the no fishing boundery went there Oct. 2 for a few nights on my boat and caught lots of em

    You guys really need to scuba dive the kelp beds it is fantastic!!! You will need a 7mm wetsuit (not a 5mm) it is freezing cold below the thermocline😀

    Never caught a Large Cuda on surface iron, till I used my 7' ft. Calstar black glass rod with Newell reel and 30. lb line. Used to use a bass rod with 10.lb. On half day or twighlite boats.

      Get something 8 ft or longer for using jigs. Once u get comfortable with 8 ft go to 9ft

      @@olivermartel7172 , have it now, sort of. Thank You just the same. Seeker Black Steel 8ft cork tape handle, for 20lb. It's for lighter jigs, and that 7 footer with 30 Is a multi-purpose that can handle a heavier jig situation. I remember thinking it all out while working. I also have a 9ft. Turner's outdoorsman California Calico special heavy action with a non level wind Abu Garcia, that will probably be great. Thanks Oliver 🤙

    Any word on how U booked ur stay in thoes tents I use to stay there in Avalon for like two months at a time on a boat but now I’m older so try my wife and kids I’d love to here how u booked thoes tents looks fun as hell plz let me know

      @Theodore Wilton we have good fishing in ca some better then others Florida has better fishing then ca that’s way better in my opinion but if I could show picks to Vic of the halibut I fish for I’d blow his mind but I really don’t care what he thinks of us in ca I wanted to know how he camped in thoes tents if he had a link or something lol

    Hi Victor, a little off subject, .. however, have you had a chance to read about the Klamath River Dam removal project ? There is also one already done for a Washington River that is a few years into full recovery, awesome projects to recover massive King And Coho fisheries. After the Dams are removed there are still some challenges.

    Barracuda is definitely stinky and gamey but if you treat it right it will be delicious! Don't rinse with freshwater, take the skin off and bloodline as well! Super delicious as ceviche! Sculpin is even MORE delicious in ceviche too! Tell the guys to take you out for sculpin to make as ceviche! There are spots out there where they have a bundle of them! They were catching hundreds of barracuda and sculpin everyday for like 2 to 3 months straight!

    them alabama rigs work wonders. First time I caught a fish on one was a 1.5lb large mouth AND a 2lb large mouth on the alabama river

    You should really do a San Diego bonefish, yes bonefish we have em here as well, episode. South End of San Diego Bay, using ghost shrimp during jan/feb. Tons of em. No limit on em here lool.

    Victor, could you maybe tell me why you always leave the guts in the fish after catching it and during transport? I always remove those as quick as possible to prevent contamination of the flesh by leaking/ripped guts inside the fish. Thanks!

    From what I’ve heard, barracuda aren’t considered trash fish - I hear they’re quite tasty. The reason people don’t eat them around here is that they have loads of mercury - especially the ones surrounding LA

      Same thing with Leopard sharks. Quite tasty (so I hear), but you can only have like 1 fillet every few days or else you risk heavy metal poisoning

    I live in the fishing capitol of western U.S.A. San Diego Ca. and have caught many slimers ( barracuda ) in my time, and they are some of the tastiest fish I've eaten, big thick white fillets with no bones if you know how to fillet them. I don't think any fish is trash, we think of them as bait fish

    I wanna know why you do trash fish catch and cooks like with Bonita then say it’s like any other tuna and when you catch them you use them for bait or throw them back. I believe you that it’s good I’m just curious why you don’t keep them often

    im only 12 minutes into video but i am a local to socal waters... you have to eat barracuda the same day if you want it to be firm... you might get away with 1 day on ice but 2 days on ice starts the not so firm stage... when its fresh its absolutely fantastic for ceviche not even close to trash fish

      @@fluentfishing they dont freeze (or thaw) well from my experience but that being said fresh barracuda is delicous... only fish ive never cared for is bonito and sardines... i get a lot of shit for it but ill only keep bonito and sardines for bait
