Story to share, you guys will appreciate. Found a hydrangea standard, limelight at our local orange box store for 89.00. No place for it just yet, but have always wanted one, so after thinking about it overnight, I went back to get it. Arrived and shade trees are a one day deal for 19.98. So I get two Purple Leaf Plum trees too. This entire escapade has Aaron's influence written all over it! Enjoy the day everyone.

      @CatCaretakerID Před 20 dny +1

Me too. I looked this up once. It has to do with the chemical makeup of the plants and something called the bluing effect. Still, I find the explanation unsatisfactory, especially when you are looking for a plant that produces purple flowers - confusing, right?

I would love to see Bethany's garden. ❤ I'll bet she has her own masterpiece!
Those nonvenomos snakes are keeping the other pests and venomous snakes away. They're more scared of you than you are them. Even a hognose is rear fang venomous so they can't hurt us, even if they bite us.
Snakes are beautiful creatures and such an incredibly important part of the ecosystem. Thank you for not speaking ill of them. 💜

I so agree about seeing the wildlife come to a formally barren area. Our garden was a wildlife wasteland before due to previous owners overuse of weed killers. Now we have so many insects ,pollinators, butterflies, lizards, toads, snakes, mice, shrews, weasels, birds of all kinds it’s a joy❤️😎👩‍🌾🇫🇷

Not sure if many people would agree, but I would love to see the 'reality' get put away at the end of some of your videos. Just some quiet ASMR, tidying up the gator, jobs finished, done for day motivation. I often get really into designing & planting my space & then taint it visually by not putting the tools away or leaving a pile of weeds and dirt in a corner when I'm feeling tired. Seeing you tackle the mess left behind after a day of planting would be a great inspiration, I think.

i just love how these spaces are evolving... your knowledge and eye for picking just the right plant is always spot on... the dirtlands is going to have to change its name to "wonderland" in a couple of years - it's going to be spectacular... i think our reward for all the weeding and watering and deadheading and etc is to sit a spell in between chores and bask in the glory of nature... the birds, the bees, the lizards, the butterflies (we call them flutterbys, lol)... i talk to all of them, too.. the lizards are all called 'buddy' (hey buddy!), the orb weavers out this time of year in their webs are all henrietta, lol..we rarely get snakes around here but they should be respected, not feared... wonderful creatures... it's just the best entertainment right out the back door, lol... looks like a great day, cannot wait to see the area behind the barn soon... such a busy place!! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤

Here in southwestern Ontario, Canada, we've had a very hot, humid summer with frequent heavy rainfall. I, too, have seen a huge increase in butterflies, snakes (harmless Garter snakes), birds of all kinds, frogs, etc. Such an abundance of life in my gardens and yard! They all help to keep other, non-friendly, insects in check. I have 4 grandchildren and I spend my time teaching them to appreciate nature, which is easy because small children are naturally curious. You have to love those special moments.

You should really think about planting more of the host plants for the butterflies you love in your garden. For example, Rue is a beautiful blue green color with yellow flowers and the swallowtails love it. Look up which butterflies are native to your area and then look up their host plants. It's amazing how the butterflies will find the plants and start laying eggs only a few days after you plant them. The kids will love watching the caterpillars grow. Nature is fascinating!

I never noticed before how the pathways of grass really unite the floral parts of the garden. I look at what you're pruning or planting and look past the lawn, but today when you drove in from the dirt lands it was the green grass that pulled me in. Maybe because it was centered while you drove, but I think it is that grounding element. Good job Aaron!

Hi Laura. We had three Lilac/lavender Chiffon Rose of Sharon in three of our ten garden beds on three and a half acres in the Kansas countryside which we had to leave recently when we downsized due to our age and health. They are a stunningly beautiful plant and bloom profusely for a very long time. However, they were not sterile as we thought and became very invasive, getting in our lawn, under the perennials, shrubs and trees, making it almost impossible to get them out once they were rooted in. You could not even see many of the seedlings until they were quite established. I tried to get them out from under three barberry shrubs and you can imagine the pain (excuse the pun) that was. Please look into this before leaving them in. I'm concerned that they would be way worse then the staghorn sumac - which we also had on our property. Thank you for your show. I've watched for years and learned so much from you. ❤

Glad to see the Rose of Sharon planted far far away from flower beds and grassy areas - they very prolifically self seed and are very hard to weed out even when tiny. Otherwise you have to prune off every seed!

Just want to say I so appreciate the cleanliness, the organization and “beautiful rows and garden beds that you have. It makes my heart feel so good because I have to be frank, there are so many other CZcamsrs that garden out there and their gardens are a mess, with stuff all over them and nothing in rows and it’s all haphazard. It drives me insane. So I’m glad someone else is like me and likes to see, a neat orderly and beautiful garden!

Hate to tell you this but you will quickly hate Rose of Sharon.
They sucker and spread through their roots, so in my yard, I have them coming up between my sidewalk, in every crevices. The roots and incredibly difficult to pull.
Also, the blooms last a couple days and then drop. Not a big deal when it's a small plant but when your ground is covered in hundreds of rotting buds.... you can sweep them up but these plants bloom like crazy right through to when the snow falls.
Just put it somewhere where that won't drive you crazy.

As a first time gardener I planted two Jackmanii clematis on both sides of an entrance arch , they covered totally both 3 ft wide side panels and over the top of the arch. They bloomed profusely every year and I cut them back to the ground every year. I have never seen in a garden or a picture a clematis that grew that thickly . It wasn't any talent or practice on my part because I don't think I even fertilized. While the ones I've seen are pretty blooms they are also a disappointment after my early experience.

You plant some amazing plants! It would be fun to know how many plants you have planted over the years, thousands I am sure!

Fun video, Laura. Say, would you ever consider occasionally adding bloopers, or out-takes at the end of some of your videos? I think it would be so fun, every so often. Love your channel!

I just ripped out three Rose of Sharon I planted along my deck. Became very invasive and was my fault because I let the flowers go to seed instead of pruning them off. What a mess digging up those stump roots. Planted out in the yard to let just do their thing is OK but not close to the house or deck. Learned the hard way. 😢

Rose of Sharon’s are beautiful!! I had to take my large one out because it seeded hundreds of babies in my garden every year! It made me sad to see it go but I’m still digging up babies. ☹️

I definitely hear and agree with Aaron's opinion about purple flowers being called blue! Let blue be blue and purple be purple. 😂

Roses love Epsom salt. Mine bounced back tremendously after I gave them a heaping handful.

"If you plant it, they will come." I, too, enjoy all the wildlife that comes, unless they eat my plants. I know you are over the moon with the progress you and Aaron have made in these last few years. My favorite channel, so many things I love about what you all are doing and sharing. Thank you.

Hummingbirds have been few and far between this year in SE WI. Only a couple sightings and I do have flowers they like and a feeder I change regularly. 😢🤷‍♀️

Seeing you plant the clematis along the fence reminded me of the pear esplanade that you moved. Did it ever get replanted?

I love how you hint at a project without giving anything away! I’m thinking a gazebo? Also I’m wondering if you will be putting irrigation in the “dirt lands” next?
