  • The ultimate redemption story. In 2018, The University of Virginia Cavaliers basketball team became the first #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed, UMBC, in the NCAA tournament. The next year UVA won the schools first National Championship. And the road to get that first title was full of challenges and heart stopping games.

      I didn't come on here to dig into people's religious beliefs. Lighten up bro! This team and coach ARE an incredible example of faith, so their winning was a wonderful thing that to many people is an example of what can happen when people live in "the word". For example, "Pillars" of Bennett's program are biblically derived and include unity, humility, passion, servanthood, and thankfulness. None sound like "entitlement if we pray and follow these things hard enough", do they? I WILL say adherence to these biblical teachings as a team is a big part of what got them to where they are - wouldn't you? Okay, now going further than this puts us in a whole argument over God vs. atheism, etc. and I ain't goin' there - certainly not here.

    At the end of the game, my wife was so happy, cheering, jumping around. I, on the other hand, lied down and cried. Pure tears of joy. I was so happy for the guys and coach Bennett. I watched the entire UMBC game last year and all the games they played this season. After what they have been through and effort they put in fighting back from the bottom of the bottom, I could not help but cried.

      Christopher Hitt 1st, he’s not going top 10. His draft stock increased solely because of the tourney. And yes, he would’ve made a difference, but he’s not the sole reason UVA lost. His injury lost a really good bench player, but Virginia couldn’t dig out of the hole they were in with their other good players. Needless to say they won the tourney this year.

    And...It took UVA basketball winning a national championship to get any decent amount coverage for UVA in the Hampton Roads area. It's always Va.Tech this Va.Tech that. Va.Tech has NO significant national championships and the way the football team is playing it will be sometime before they are relevant again. So I'm saying WTVR is wrong this being their first national title. Do your research better.

I was collecting scraps of demo'd U-Hall (where I watched Barry Parkhill, Wally Walker, Jeff Lamp, Ralph Sampson, and so many other talented and dedicated players give their hearts to the game) before it was hauled away; After I slid back under the chainlink gate in front of my embarrassed wife, along came a few guys from the Lacrosse team (shirtless, T-shirts and flip-flops) carrying THE NCAA National Champions Trophy!! Presumably delivering it to JPJ, but God knows where it had been - lol. Got a great impromptu pic of the guys smiling and thumbs up! Yes, lots of National Champ teams at UVA - but hoops has been "ready" for oh-so long.

    I still feel like their Final 4 game against Auburn was rigged. If the obvious double dribble on Jerome had been called, it would have been Auburn vs. Texas Tech. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for their program on their first championship appearance and title, but they got there via a blatant no-call

    • @joeomalley2835
      @joeomalley2835 Před 5 lety +15

      What I hate about these "it is rigged" comments is the lack of perspective.Okay, so they are down 4 with 11 seconds to play, and they have to hit a key 3 pointer with 6 seconds left. Was Guy's shot in the corner that went in the hoop rigged at as well? What about the 3 FTs that magically made it inside the hoop? I suppose that was rigged too. Yeah, it was a bit controversial about the double dribble but literally no one saw it, even the announcers, no one. Just like no one saw the jersey grab of the Virginia player prior. So, yeah, I think they deserved the championship.

    • @HDouble
      @HDouble Před 5 lety +7

      You should go back and watch the game again. Guy was getting grabbed while trying to run past screens all game, Hunter was hacked and grabbed throughout, and, with less than a minute left, an Auburn player took about 7 steps. Oh, and that double dribble everyone loves brining up.....tell me Ty's jersey wasn't grabbed as he was turning around to recover the ball.
