Loved him so much! My favorite skater of All time. I love the American commentary rooting for him. I love their happiness when he mounted the Gold medal platform.
While others are just skaters, he's a performer. He loves the audience and the audience loves him. He has the whole package technical skill, artistry, passion, emotion and electrifying charisma. He has the capacity to take you in his journey and get to your soul. Just breathtaking... The one and only king of figure skating!

Unfortunately, the Russians altered strategy in the art of sophistication executing traditional skating skill in the Olympics. The aesthetics lost and storylines negated by jumping the ice behaving as water lilies.
At 3:34, some of the greatest footwork on ice ever. It still blows my mind. Never seen anyone come close to it except for Kurt Browning at his peak. One in a trillion. Legend.
I agree. Although this program is relatively simple compared to the men's programs today, it has a incomparable sense of energy, individuality, and passion.

I fell in love with Alexei after seeing him skate Winter. I still love him 17 years and many performances later. No one comes close to the passion, majesty and athleticism of his skating. And those blue eyes can turn your bones to water. I've met him a few times and he is always gracious and kind to his fans. Miss him skating in the U.S.

Ягудин выиграл Олимпиаду своей короткой программой. «Человек в железной маске», безусловно, замечательная программа, но «Зима» - это гениально. После этой феерии на льду все, что нужно было Алексею - это чисто откатать произвольную. Что он и сделал. Выдающийся спортсмен. Бесспорный талант. Спустя многие годы никто не смог даже приблизиться к этому шедевру на льду, который, без сомнения, никогда не стал бы шедевром без выдающегося исполнения.
Столько было прекрасных фигуристов и после Ягудина, но ни один из номеров не стал таким шедевром как его "Зима". Прыжки, разные сложные элементы - всего этого недостаточно для того, чтобы номер стал ИСКУССТВОМ. Жалко, что современное катание постепенно становится акробатикой на льду. И потихоньку уходит гармония и красота. А вот такие шедевры можно смотреть бесконечно, они на века. ❤️
Есть выступления фигуристов хорошие, лучшие, замечательные, но! "Зима" Ягудина- это навсегда! Это лебединая песня, прокат жизни, на разрыв аорты! Уже сколько лет прошло, а восприятие и наслаждение программой как в первый раз! Шедевр!

Whenever I hear this song, I immediately think of this performance. Alexei made skating exciting and fun because you knew when he was going to be on, you were in for a show. He's freaking iconic!!

Или Сергея Бубку, чтобы тот с шестом прыгал? Он просто придавал им уверенности в своих силах и помогал преодолеть волнение. А "Зиму" Ягудин также превосходно исполнил на чемпионате мира, уже после Олимпиады.

Absolutely the best skater ever. The Russians really have a great ambassador in Alexei. He seems so nice with his unbelievable talent. He reminds me of Alec Baldwin in looks. He has everything. Talent, looks, personality just fantastic! I really could watch him forever.
Amazing footwork and sequence. Too bad we don't get these nowadays because it's all about jumps... I wish we could have more programs like this. Pure artistry and skills
This past weekend Eurosport's Commentator said the young Japanese is the best skater ever, so I guess he has never seen Alexei Jagudin- The Master of Footwork, I don't think he will ever be beaten.
I watched this again and just wow.. He is perfection! It truly felt like a dance, where his heart and soul was pooring out as he moved and just so much passion!! You rarely see charisma and passion like this anymore.. Yagudin is the perfect balance of technicality, style, and art

I always go back and watch his 2 performances, they were just phenomenal. I don't feel like any performance has even come close to this, so sad that his career was cut so short due to the hip, but such a pleasure to be able to still go back and watch!
My childhood memories... The Turkish state TV, TRT 3 used to air these events live.... waking up at the middle of the night with my grandma to watch the winter Olympics and the world figure skating championships... It was always between Alexey and Evgeni... Whoever won, I felt sorry for the other. They were the best of their sport...ever!

the competition between Plushenko and Yagudin has really brought up figure skating to a completely new level. This program is phenomenal. With this generation of skaters retired, we will not have such performances any more - unfortunately.
Winter is the best SP of all time in my opinion and this is one of the greatest Olympic Performances ever but best ever male performance - check out Plushenko's tribute to Nijinsky from the RNs in2004, it is sublime.
One for the ages. That straight line footwork sequence is absolutely the best I have ever seen... it's entertaining, profoundly difficult, and right with the music. This is clearly one of the most iconic programs of all time. Bravo.
That's why always come back to watch that performance by Yagudin.....that footwork step sequence is to die for.....choregraphy made by Mr Morozov indeed!

Just a couple of years ago I went to an ice show in Bratislava. He didn't skate the whole program, just the step sequence, I think, but when the music started everybody went wild, the whole arena knew what was about to come. It was still amazing, I was so lucky to have seen him live there.

Elson Magalhães I agree that was the best short program ever skated in mens figure skating at the time and that program would easily still have won even the last Olympics-- with just a few easy upgrades in footwork and spins.
TehStupidBish SO there has only been one skater to earn over 99 points in an short program... Yuzuru HANYU 101.45 and it was 12 years AFTER this performance. Actually this program technical elements are still very competitive and certainly the artistic is off the charts...the upgrades needed would have been well within Yagudin's ability of spins and footwork IN FACT many of the new rules is based of his Olympic performance. This program could currently earned at least a 91 under the current requirements...Yagudin could have added 10-12 more points easily, he was a master at calculating points before DURING and after competitions in order to win.

Я далек от фигурного катания...случайно увидел видео...и постоянно пересматриваю...мне не понять и не оценить насколько сложные технические элементы он выполнил в этой программе...но это чудо..она живая...она настоящая...в сложные жизненные ситуации я пересматриваю это видео....и потом когда все хорошо и я счастлив...я говорю...это как Ягудин Зима!

I have NEVER forgotten how GENIUS this man was-his footwork is beyond brilliant, and his theatrics are truly magnificent. I have lost the love and passion for the sport without him. The BEST of the BEST of the BEST! Every young skater should be tied to a chair and made to watch each and every one of this man's performances-there is so much to LEARN from every one-but his natural GIFT is apparent-that is something that you can't learn or emulate, but skating would be a lot more enjoyable if today;s skaters at least TRIED to be as great as this!
With Yagudin and Lambiel gone, now that Plushenko and Joubert ended their careers, we're stuck with all the 'new type' of skaters and this new way of scoring. I really miss the old days.

Это же в Америке, а Лёша там тогда жил и тренировался. Его больше любили и знали в мире, а в России Писеев (чинуша от фигурного катания) ставил любые подножки Ягудину и Тарасовой, везде и всюду тыркал своего обычного плющенку. Но правда и справедливость победили! Кто лучший, да и сравнивать нельзя, стал ЯГУДИН!
I agree that they both are excellent skaters with these amazingly made programs, yet they both miss this level of energy explosion like in this fantastic program of Alexey. It's not "only" (smile) aesthetic to look at but powerful and charging up as well, being in perfect rapport with this magic music.
+Mannaturamour The rules have changed, Winter is no longer possible according to them. Step sequences may look prettier here but today are far, far more complex. And you cannot judge a program by 'level of energy explosion', that eliminates over half of music pieces that is skated to. That's too simplistic. Chopin is at the level of this, and actually in terms of difficulty much higher, but if you want explosion of energy, the FS from that season had it. They're all wonderful skaters, we've been blessed to see them.

this is exactly what we saw on the last Olympics! they all jump (less and less successefully, though), spin, rack but where is the performance??
Well, the German pair was beautiful.
I think now skaters focus on the jumps too much and often even fail them... It just makes ice skating uglier its supposed to be beautiful

This past weekend Eurosport's Commentator said the young Japanese is the best skater ever, so I guess he has never seen Alexei Jagudin- The Master of Footwork, I don't think he will ever be beaten.

I watched this again and just wow.. He is perfection! It truly felt like a dance, where his heart and soul was pooring out as he moved and just so much passion!!

I always go back and watch his 2 performances, they were just phenomenal. I don't feel like any performance has even come close to this, so sad that his career was cut so short due to the hip, but such a pleasure to be able to still go back and watch!

My childhood memories... The Turkish state TV, TRT 3 used to air these events live.... waking up at the middle of the night with my grandma to watch the winter Olympics and the world figure skating championships... It was always between Alexey and Evgeni... Whoever won, I felt sorry for the other. They were the best of their sport...ever!

Когда Леша разминался, там чьи-то оценки озвучивали, кто там до него был, вот трибуны и орали. Кстати да, и встретили Лешу тоже горячо и вообще сколько видео пересмотрела, его всегда и везде принимали хорошо, кроме ЧМ на Родине, но там понятно все

the competition between Plushenko and Yagudin has really brought up figure skating to a completely new level. This program is phenomenal. With this generation of skaters retired, we will not have such performances any more - unfortunately.

Winter is the best SP of all time in my opinion and this is one of the greatest Olympic Performances ever but best ever male performance - check out Plushenko's tribute to Nijinsky from the RNs in2004, it is sublime.

One for the ages. That straight line footwork sequence is absolutely the best I have ever seen... it's entertaining, profoundly difficult, and right with the music. This is clearly one of the most iconic programs of all time. Bravo.
The circle footwork...was ridiculous as well. Well said....simply a classic.

Just a couple of years ago I went to an ice show in Bratislava. He didn't skate the whole program, just the step sequence, I think, but when the music started everybody went wild, the whole arena knew what was about to come. It was still amazing, I was so lucky to have seen him live there.

Elson Magalhães I agree that was the best short program ever skated in mens figure skating at the time and that program would easily still have won even the last Olympics-- with just a few easy upgrades in footwork and spins.

TehStupidBish SO there has only been one skater to earn over 99 points in an short program... Yuzuru HANYU 101.45 and it was 12 years AFTER this performance. Actually this program technical elements are still very competitive and certainly the artistic is off the charts...the upgrades needed would have been well within Yagudin's ability of spins and footwork IN FACT many of the new rules is based of his Olympic performance. This program could currently earned at least a 91 under the current requirements...Yagudin could have added 10-12 more points easily, he was a master at calculating points before DURING and after competitions in order to win.

Я далек от фигурного катания...случайно увидел видео...и постоянно пересматриваю...мне не понять и не оценить насколько сложные технические элементы он выполнил в этой программе...но это чудо..она живая...она настоящая...в сложные жизненные ситуации я пересматриваю это видео....и потом когда все хорошо и я счастлив...я говорю...это как Ягудин Зима!

I have NEVER forgotten how GENIUS this man was-his footwork is beyond brilliant, and his theatrics are truly magnificent. I have lost the love and passion for the sport without him. The BEST of the BEST of the BEST! Every young skater should be tied to a chair and made to watch each and every one of this man's performances-there is so much to LEARN from every one-but his natural GIFT is apparent-that is something that you can't learn or emulate, but skating would be a lot more enjoyable if today;s skaters at least TRIED to be as great as this!

With Yagudin and Lambiel gone, now that Plushenko and Joubert ended their careers, we're stuck with all the 'new type' of skaters and this new way of scoring. I really miss the old days.
I miss too but plushenko didn't end his competitive career he said that he will try to compete once again! :)

Трибуны просто оглушительно ревут, на каждое движение Ягудина. его еще не объявили, уже рев) а как все рукоплескают в такт музыке, красота. "Зима" очень изящна и грациозна.
Это же в Америке, а Лёша там тогда жил и тренировался. Его больше любили и знали в мире, а в России Писеев (чинуша от фигурного катания) ставил любые подножки Ягудину и Тарасовой, везде и всюду тыркал своего обычного плющенку. Но правда и справедливость победили! Кто лучший, да и сравнивать нельзя, стал ЯГУДИН!

The best man's program and the best man's skater ever
I feel like a few programs are on this level now though. Namely Plushenko's Tribute to Nikinsky and Hanyu's 2015's SP.
I agree that they both are excellent skaters with these amazingly made programs, yet they both miss this level of energy explosion like in this fantastic program of Alexey. It's not "only" (smile) aesthetic to look at but powerful and charging up as well, being in perfect rapport with this magic music.
+JFbabe I agree, I think Plushenco and Yagudin are the only best skaters ever in human history, no one has ever reached their level even now!
+Mannaturamour The rules have changed, Winter is no longer possible according to them. Step sequences may look prettier here but today are far, far more complex. And you cannot judge a program by 'level of energy explosion', that eliminates over half of music pieces that is skated to. That's too simplistic.
Chopin is at the level of this, and actually in terms of difficulty much higher, but if you want explosion of energy, the FS from that season had it. They're all wonderful skaters, we've been blessed to see them.
