Sri Lanka’s 1st Test Centurion | Sidath Wettimuny on Legends

Hailing from a family of cricketers, Sidath Wettimuny followed his older brothers Sunil and Mithra into International Cricket. The solid right-handed batsman was a regular fixture of Sri Lanka’s top order in the early days of the nation’s foray into Test cricket. In 1982, during Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan, Wettimuny became Sri Lanka’s first Test centurion when he made a classic 157 in Faisalabad. He would go on to represent Sri Lanka in 23 Tests and 35 ODIs, most memorably making his highest Test score of 190 at the Home of Cricket - Lord’s in 1984. Post-retirement, Wettimuny served briefly as a match referee and has also held several administrative positions at Sri Lanka Cricket.
