I’m 64 years young May 22, 2024. My sister-in-law turned me on to Janis at age 10. I’m from Baton Rouge so this song has even more of a Special Memory for me. What a Tragic loss!
Lifelong, as a nurse, I always loathed “tools of satan” as drugs, booze and cancer of lungs tobacco. But in timeless songs/artists of the past, so many classics were the results of deeply drugged artists. Prince, Jackson,Joplin, Winehouse , Miles Davis, Simone,Cannonball etc etc etc. Suspect these tools open up cerebral windows sobriety can’t embrace. And soooo many die young. Probably best to love sobriety. Healthier anyway.
I've absolutely loved Janis Joplin since the first time I heard her voice!!! She had more talent, and soul inside of her than anyone on this planet! She thrived with music, I believe it built her up, and she just absolutely flourished off of it, and because of that, she filled those listening to her performances with such power, epic blues, love, and sheer beautiful joy, her music filled your entire body and soul, and you felt every single note, like it was part of you, she just pulled you in, and made you feel like you were part of the music!❤ At least that's how she made me feel! I loved watching her on The Dick Cavett Show, you could just tell he loved her, and loved having her on his show, he was awesome! She seemed like such a beautiful free spirit, and beautiful human being!❤ How could anyone not love her? She told it like it was, and didn't let what people (haters), thought about her! I loved her honesty, and frankness in interviews! She was beautiful inside, an out, and one hell-of-a talented lady!❤ RIP Janis, and thank you for all the awesome music you gave us!
Nicely said. There's a documentary about her tragic life that sheds light on her inner struggles. It has been said that she made love to her audience and then the band members went home with their mates and she went home alone. Its easy to understand her depression and attraction to narcotics, tho they always betray the user in the end. I am 70 now and realize that she needed the Lord Jesus in her life, as we all do (Matthew 6:33). Thanks again for your thoughts;we lost her and Jimi all to soon.
