  • Produced by the department of the Navy for advanced pilot training in 1953, this is still an excellent primer on take-offs & landings (along with qualified professional instruction..) Probably the most produced "Advanced Trainer" in history, this aircraft was used by both the US Air Force (AT-6) and the Navy (SNJ) and by many other nations as the "Harvard." Renowned for her nimble, forgiving handling, it's only natural that this was the aircraft chosen when a double was needed for the Japanese Zero in numerous war movies and TV shows, including "Ba Ba Black Sheep" and "Tore Tora Tora!" This is the ship that thousands of pilots used to master more advanced skills before climbing into a real fighter.
There are still a lot of T-6s & SNJs in the sky today because there a great little aircraft.

During the Korean war, Navy trainees did their first solo in the SNJ. I don't know whether this was due to a new theory of training or a shortage of the Stearman biplanes used in World War II.

Interesting how they do a three wheel landing!

It becomes routine; the T 6 was a standard trainer in many air forces til the late 60s but before the (three tons 600 Hp) T 6 you had to learn & be able to solo fly a lesser and easier plane or planes.

Estas filmaciones NO enseñaban, pero SÍ servían para aclarar las ideas.

While a student at Academia Militar del Caribe outside Habana, Cuba I was sent to California Aircraft Institute in Los Angeles, California to receive a certificate as an Aircraft Navigator..later went to Texas to train to fly the AT-6 Texan , and P-38 plane .this took place back in the late 1950's. and never to return to Cuba due to Fidel Castro coup..here I am 53 years later in the U.S.A.
