    hi, @Cooking A Dream
    i have been making the yoghurt culture (pepper and lemon) what it is in your channel prepare.
    After waiting for 3 hours in the oven with candle light, did you keep the yogurt in the fridge for a while?
    Do we too-much-really need sugar and milk powder? What do you really need sugar and milk powder? do they have a purpose?

    • @victoriakathleen01
      @victoriakathleen01 Před 4 lety

      Sugar is for flavor and milk powder is to artificially condense the milk, which makes the yogurt thicker. You don't need to use either of these ingredients, all you need is plain yogurt for the starter and milk (preferably whole milk 😊)

      the thickness of yogurt also depends on the thickness of milk. I add milk powder to make it thicker, If you don't want to add milk powder, you must boil to reduce the water content of the milk.

      @CookingADream  Před 6 lety +5

      I know what you are talking about. It happens if the temperature of the environment is low and takes more than 4 hours to set the yogurt. You need a warmer place to set the yogurt. Its like when you touch the jar you feel warm and cozy but not hot. Like, besides the stove when you cook.

      You can use room temperature cultures such as piima, viili, fil mjolk, matsoni. These you make at room temp on the counter top. Of those piima is the thinnest and most drinkable. I prefer fil mjolk which is thick and custard like. You could get kefir grains as well and just make kefir.

  • @geku953

    PLEASE READ: This recipe is not very clear.
    First of all, you only boil for 30 minutes, if it's a raw milk. If it is fresh milk or long life milk you only boil couple of minutes as they are already boiled before being sold in the shops.
    Also you don't need to add extra sugar as milk already has it's own sugar.
    Putting inside oven with candle can be too risky and it's definitive not the traditional way. Instead you cover up with blanket put it somewhere dark and warm without movement and leave it for a few hours. Check up after 6 hours, sometimes it can take to twelve hours. This depends on the milk and yoghurt you have used. Once done, put it in the fridge.

    • @CookingADream
      @CookingADream  Před 7 lety +6

      when you set yogurt at a lower temperature for a long time it becomes slimy. in right temperature, yogurt should take 2-3 hours to set. If it takes longer, then you know the temp is not warm enough. like, setting yogurt on counter top overnight will most likely to be slimy, even if it takes 4 hours there is a risk. besides, you need to add a generous amount of culture yogurt. suppose If you add 4tsp instead of 4tbsp it will take longer to set.In addition, boil the milk well.
