I don’t even follow British or American band’s anymore. I can’t get enough of Jrock and my Japanese is not that great, however most lyrics are on line and have translations for those who just can’t get by without song lyrics.

It’s disappointing to see how bands like this are still seen so negatively by pop fans and such. Like this may be seen as demonic, devilish and “some weird shit” but it’s just purely for entertainment. I really resonate with this style cause I’m a metalhead. And I’m very open to anything. I always have been even before I began to explore different kinds of music and discovered that I liked rock and metal. Someone like me who enjoys this isn’t a crazy person. It’s the only way I can truly express myself of all my emotions and of who I am as a person. it’s comfort for my stressful life. Literally respect people’s preferences ffs. This is art and if you can’t see it like that, well you’re missing out. These bands are great. We aren’t devil worshippers lol
After two decades of loving rock and metal, I can tell you two things for sure: 1) We're not cooler than anyone and that kind of cringe just seems like a desperate idiotic teenager thing, 2) the mainstream will never accept metal and it's probably for the best. Trust me.
And I don't know why you think other people's opinions matter so much. I laughed like crazy about these infantile airheads (except Pokémon shirt guy, he seems cool) who obviously never ever step out of their safe little bubble. What a boring existence.

@@yanrichdeponcy3235 well yes, it is actual Japanese visual kei bands. So yes it is a reaction to SOME Japanese bands. Though it is stretching it a little bit far to define this as visual kei. It is visual kei, no doubt, but it shows a very minor side of the music genre, picking out the most cray cray parts instead of showing the most common parts. It’s like only showing the far outside of the scale instead of showing the middle common part if that makes sense.
That maybe true, there is a lot of competition and there shouldn’t be. Some jealousy as well, I’ve noticed.

I came here to say this too.
AS a Japanese American who is totally into VISUEL KEI ,.. i can appreciate their comments but I have to say the culture is totally different from American culture. True Japan has been influenced by American music, but they took the pieces they liked and came up with
some great music. I will never stop listening ..I love bands like D'espairsRay, An Cafe, The Gazette, L'arc en Ciel , Bandmaid, JinnyOops, and perhaps Bucktick, since I got to meet the lead singer once, Atsu Sakarai . I am a Jrocker for life!
Me too fam! I became a J-rocker the moment I became an Otaku & seriously their music is smth no one has yet got closer to (in my eyes). Everything to me looks bland now that I've entered into the endless pithole of J-rock. That's why I'll never stop jamming to them. Would also support them ♡

This is why I loved living in Japan, at least they can learn to understand things and not be fucking rude.
And we wonder why it's so rare to see visual kei bands come to the west. Sadly, people here are so close-minded that anything different or foreign is just made a mockery of. All the comments about the appearance is just "wow he looks like a video game character. Which final fantasy is he from?" Which is just undermining them and shows they have no interest in taking them seriously. It's such a shame because you're missing out on some truly special and unique bands. Take Versailles for example. They managed to take power metal and turn it into some of the most beautiful music out there and that is just incredible. But because people mock it or are embarrassed by it here, we can't give them the respect or demand that they deserve and that's a damn shame.
Metal isn't as popular anymore and metal + crazy vk costumes will weird them out because it's new to them.
And the people that request DiR En Grey Obscure for example want them to get weirded out.
Dark and edgy aesthetics aren't mainstream in the West, but there iare many people who like metal/goth/emo/alternative music. They would enjoy visual kei.

visual kei is style not genre, there are many genres inside vkei but most known bands usually do rock/metal style music so it may be seen as a heavy genre :,D and why we are all watching this rn!!?

I feel like this video did a pretty terrible job of introducing Visual Kei, mostly going for shock value rather than exploring its history and variety. VK is not a specific genre of music (that's a popular misconception), it ranges from pop to heavy metal to everything in between. If anything it's more like a subculture. If it was me, I would have picked a definitive band from each of the eras below and showed that instead:
1980s: Pioneer Era
Buck-Tick (still actively putting out music for the past 30+ years), X-Japan (helped coin the term), COLOR
1990s: Golden Era
Luna Sea, Malice Mizer, GLAY, Dir En Grey, Kuroyume
2000s: Neo-visual Kei (International expansion)
SID, Nightmare, The Gazette, Alice Nine
2010s: Warring Era (Not a lot of bands that stand out other than the ones mentioned below, popularity has decreased a lot from previous eras)
Golden Bomber (a literal air instrument band), Wagakki Band (they aren't really talked about as a VK band, but a lot of their fashion and on stage showmanship are very in line with what you would see in VK.)

definitely should've put more calmer bands and music videos cause they only liked the mellowest music video, more things like Malice Mizer, dir in grey, the gazette, shazna etc
Naturally, musical taste and visual appeal is subjective. However, Visual Kei is magnificent art form, and the comments from all of them were hella rude (especially the overly tanned birds). Not surprised to hear such closed-mindedness from these particular "influencers" though.
PS. A Visual Kei video without Dir En Grey, X-Japan or Malice Mizer may as well be a hate crime.
But not all of them were rude, just the twin girls and the overly tanned birds (that's brilliant lol). I expected a lot more hate, most of them tried to understand it and acknowledged that tastes differ.
I laughed at the more sarcastic comments and I don't think most of them were meant to be hateful.

This is kinda the reason I don't show visual kei to my American friends because they're going to say kinda rude things. Visual kei bands work hard for their music videos and for people to be saying it's weird or it's gross it's really rude and sad :(

Let them. You like it and if they can't accept the things you like, they're not real friends. You don't need their validation and judgemental people don't deserve friends anyway. Never think you owe someone an explanation for the music (movies, shows etc.) you like. If it makes you happy, they should support it.
My friends do just as I support what makes them happy. Friendship isn't about liking the same things, it's about love and support and it's sad that so many people don't understand that.

when I first saw this video was when i was around 12, i've been heavily into the vkei scene since i was 9 and now im 20, looking back at this vsauce was the only respectful person in this video, the rest where such assholes about it.
